Popping in to check on this run. I noticed that there's not been any checkins to gitorious since December. How are the route experiments going? Any word on progress? :)

Most of them. But that's really boring. We already have a version of the TAS that skips a bunch of levels.

Oh, you know how it is, adelikat loves rolling around on his huge pile of ad revenue cash, extracted from the tears of our users. He also sells young Somalians into slavery, steals the dentures from WW2 veterans for sale on the black market, and time travellers hire him to punch certain pregnant women in the stomach. All for the almighty dollar. Or maybe he thought it was fun. You know? Fun?

What constraints do you impose upon mathematical symbolism? That it must be expressible in this universe? If that's the case then we cannot even construct symbols for each real number. Because to do that would require infinite space. For instance, how would you represent a not-special number in the neighborhood of Graham's number? If we eschew the requirement that it be representable in the universe then we can simply represent each number by a line segment with a length in any sufficiently well defined unit system.

If your set of symbols is uncountable you can represent the reals just fine.
Could you explain how a set of distinct individual symbols (that can be used to represent numerical values) can be uncountable? Because I cannot even fathom how. (Granted, I'm not that good at math and grasping things like infinite sets, but still...)
You can count an infinite set if you can map it to the whole numbers. By this logic it's possible to say that you can count all of the integers because you can map them as follows.
0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7...
0, 1, -1, 2, -2, 3, -3, 4...
You can also count all rational numbers by mapping them as follows:
1/1 1/2 1/3 1/4 1/5 1/6...
2/1 2/2 2/3 2/4 2/5 2/6...
3/1 3/2 3/3 3/4 3/5 3/6...
4/1 4/2 4/3 4/4 4/5 4/6...
5/1 5/2 5/3 5/4 5/5 5/6...
6/1 6/2 6/3 6/4 6/5 6/6...
Then start from the top corner and perform a trick called diagonalization. You visit each node by starting at 1/1, then visiting 2/1 then 1/2, then 3/1, 2/2 (skipped, members not coprime), 1/3, then 4/1, 3/2, 2/3, 1/4, etc. Doing this you can visit each possible rational number in a methodological manner. But this doesn't work for irrational numbers. Let's say that I have a list of real numbers (between 0 and 1) that I say maps to whole numbers, and it looks like this:
0: 0.487397268962....
1: 0.798567386647....
2: 0.982764976473....
3: 0.496739863834....
4: 0.875976387663....
5: 0.095479836476....
6: 0.798463876374....
7: 0.129828732002....
I can make a new number, that's not on this list, by doing the following: Take the 1st digit from the first number, change it, take the second digit from the second number, change it, and continue, by collecting a different digit from each number. Now you have a number (one possibility is: 0.5038809487239...) that is a real number, and is not on the list. Therefore, your complete list, is actually not a complete list. Therefore, you cannot count all real numbers. Any method you try will miss some. In fact, any method you try will miss infinitely many, and the amount that it will miss is also uncountably many.

I also have to say that believing in something superstitious isn't necessarily wrong, because for example the belief in God is a superstitious belief. Just because something is supernatural doesn't mean it's not real. There's a possibility that a superstition will some day be pure science.
Seriously? You're justifying superstition by invoking God? You're aware that this argument simply will not fly with people who aren't Christian, right? Just because an idea is tenacious doesn't make it worthy. Breaking a mirror won't give you 7 years bad luck. Walking under a ladder or opening an umbrella in doors doesn't curse you with ill fortune. And a deity didn't stop the sun in the sky for several hours so that one Bronze Age tribe could have a little bit more time to kill another Bronze Age tribe (but could do nothing to assist them against an Iron Age tribe.) Not to mention that even if there is a God, your argument simply makes no sense. A is either true or false. God, therefore possibly A. Therefore (you should treat as if true) A.

FWIW I agree with Warp here. If you're not vaccinated then you're harming other people. A big reason why our society is largely free of devastating illnesses that were common as little as 50-100 years ago is because of herd immunity. And by not being inoculated you're subverting our collective immunity. Even if you're young and healthy and don't get sick you could still carry a disease or be asymptomatic. Being young and healthy isn't an excuse for not getting vaccinated.

You could say that from almost anything that involves someone making a decision. (Most prominently, perhaps, whether a TAS should be accepted for publication or not.) If someone gets upset, it's their problem. Nobody forces them to visit this website. And if they get troublesome, they can be warned and banned.
The difference between the example you gave and the topic at hand, is these are supposed to be the community awards, they're nominated and voted on by the community. And people tend to get upset if they feel that their "power" is being taken away. I stone cold do not give a damn one way or another. I'm just playing devil's advocate right now.

Just because there's an innovation award doesn't mean that it must be awarded each year, no matter what. If some year there are no feasible candidates then it can simply be not awarded that year. However, I think it should still exist to be given to those who do something special or unique, alongside the other awards. Just take nominations (with arguments why it's innovative). Even if there's just one nomination that deserves the award, give it to that one.
While I think that's probably the best way to go about it, it runs into the issue of someone (who?) needing to make the judgement of what's innovative enough and what's not. Which will leave people with fewer choices (because these are community awards.) And there's the change (certainty) that someone (or several someones) will be upset at any (many) particular judgement(s) and complain (loudly in every thread they can.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neutron_electric_dipole_moment The neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM) is a measure for the distribution of positive and negative charge inside the neutron. A finite electric dipole moment can only exist if the centers of the negative and positive charge distribution inside the particle do not coincide. So far, no neutron EDM has been found. The current best upper limit amounts to |dn| < 2.9×10^-26e·cm.[1] That being said, the Standard Model predicts |dn| to be on the order of 10^-31, but it's not a proven fact yet. And if it exists, it's incredibly tiny.

I waste about 2 seconds in 8-3 to get blue shell. Sorry, I don't know how to manilate hammer bros's item well...
I hope this helps:
Luck Manipulation The starting RNG depends on the date and time you start the movie. The RNG changes whenever certain sound effects are played, whether by Mario or the background music itself (though this depends on the level). Luck can always be manipulated by either double jumping, throwing something, or wall jumping. We sadly do not know exactly what the numbers in the address mean yet, so luck was usually manipulated by changing the amount of double jumps and wall jumps. We currently know that the RNG affects: The Red ? Block and Hammer Bros. movements on the world map The movement of the Scuttlebugs The volcano rocks in World 8-8 When the final cutscene in World 8-Castle 2 (Bowser Jr. throwing Dry Bowser into the pot) activates
Totally uninformed idea, but from watching the video, whenever Mario double jumps he either says "Yah" or "Whooh". I assume this is decided by the RNG. So it sounds like the RNG advances only when a number is consumed from it. I'm guessing it was initially connected to certain sound effects because they're randomized sound effects. Wall jumps seem to have randomized smoke. Throwing things I haven't observed yet, but perhaps it also uses a random sound effect? If that's the case then breaking the blue bricks seems to generate pieces that fly out randomly. This should also advance the RNG. Sorry to be a bother, but I'm not set up to check. Does someone want to?

I've got an issue where fceu 2.1.5 compiled from source using g++-4.6 (g++-4.7 does not compile the code) will segfault after what seems to be around a set amount of time (specifically while dumping a video). But will not if I'm running it through gdb. Has anyone else run into this issue?
