Should the reset then be replaced by a soft reset in the input file itself, to make the submission more 'pure' by using no resets?

Hi, you should use http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php to upload and share input files, it's designed just for that purpose. Some things you should do, if you haven't yet: 1) Try all illegal d-pad combinations (L+R, U+D, L+R+U... seven in total) in all player states, menus and so on you can think of, to see if you can find any oversights/glitches. 2) Use RAM watch to find player X, player Y and (if they exist as RAM variables) player X velocity and player Y velocity. (Note that similar RAM addresses tend to be grouped close together, so you can try looking for hp, score or one position variable and peering around it in memory for other useful addresses) 3) Calculate how fast the character moves in every mode of movement you can think of (walking, jumping, uphill, downhill, are there any frames of movement lost when jumping/landing, etc) The site has some excellent resources on how to use memory search/watch here: http://tasvideos.org/MemorySearch.html http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/RamSearch.html http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/RamWatch.html

IMO this is a job for doing Magmar attempts from that save state in real time/in slowdown time rather than slow TASing. Grind out attempts to see under what circumstances you get the crash and under what circumstances you don't. Try making save states closer and closer to the end of the fight to see how much you can 'manipulate' it crashing or not based on what different things you do, and your intuition of how much it can be manipulated will form.

Alright, just be aware getting things to work under Hourglass is finnicky. There are a lot of settings you can try to change to make it work, if that fails you might need to change OSes (it works best on 32-bit XP I believe) or it might just not be possible at all yet.

IWBTG has a TAS done with hourglass, yes? IWBTF should work too then. (But who knows until someone tries :) )

At 5:01 in this video you can see a bug with platform velocity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0BqO1iEjz4#t=4m55s If you go from a platform that is moving to ground that is not moving without entering a 'in air' state, the game engine forgets to clear that you have velocity from the platform, and the next time you jump it will be boosted as though from that platform. Since it is a game engine bug, rewinding time fixes it - e.g. it is not a problem with bad entity variables, it's in the game engine. Keylie has already looked through the TAS and there isn't anywhere it would save time, so just posting this here for posterity/in case it is useful in any braid mod speedruns or playarounds.

My strategy would be the following: -Before you start the timer it's not moving, so run around a bunch, keeping only values that have not changed. -Start the timer. Now do random stuff and keep only values that are decreasing*. -Certain gameplay states I know are confirmed to not tick down the 15 minutes - like being in the menu or in a transition, right? - so go from gameplay to paused timer asserting the value decreased, then repeatedly while it's paused assert it is unchanged. *If you get nothing, the timer might increase from 0 instead of drop to 0, so come back to here

Yeah, the TAS is on a different difficulty level, but maybe it can be improved with new strats?
