I watched this one and found it interesting! I also agree that the last step was tricky to follow, but it looked correct on its face. His next video is going to study permutations in depth, so it might end up being a primer for this video.

It seems like the desire to keep the branch count low is not doing anything productive except hurting the desire of TASers going forward, so I am not sure that the rule is having any desired useful effect.

This was a joy to watch. The rampant multitasking, the multiple simultaneous playarounds, and the total garbled corrupted finish. (I assume that you did some dds at some point to corrupt things? Ah, it looks like you alias sdfsdf to some dd shenanigans.) Yes vote!

I enjoyed how goofy this category was! Notable speedrun tricks retained even while clipping through walls and zipping across the sunset. Sky Chase being deliberately anti-entertainment (since there's no need to do a single input in this ruleset) amused me.

I was amused, but yeah, this definitely shouldn't obsolete any other branch. Very silly.

That's what I mean - if the Igglanova skip loses 170 frames because you have to make it up by levelling later, wouldn't a TAS where you don't do Igglanova skip be 170 frames faster than this one? If these two events allow for later timesaves to be bigger, it's not clear from the description.

How does the math work? -1360 to skip a fight but +1530 to do the levelling that skipping that fight missed out on would be a 170 frame loss. Are the numbers correct?

The intent of 'no politics' is that people want to talk about: * What's going on * What people are doing and how people are feeling * What I should personally do and how I should personally feel Rather than: * Who should be blamed * Who's responsible * Who we should feel good about and bad about It doesn't mean 'don't describe reality accurately', it means 'not everything that's a part of reality is equally important right now, so focus on stuff that matters to individual TASVideos posters' EDIT: And if you specifically want political coronavirus content, https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/ is good for the US centric left wing perspective.

Slightly facetious response: Time to use runahead to make the emulator more responsive than the console

Excellent RNG manipulation. You can tell that the game was not meant to be completed anywhere near this fast, as you breeze through a procedurally generated dungeon, encountering no enemies and picking up only useful items. Yes vote.

As I understand it, the main reason to slow down the rate at which COVID-19 spreads isn't because it's super dangerous. More specifically, if someone has a bad reaction to the virus, we can put them on a ventilator and they'll have a good change of surviving - but if everyone in the country gets it simultaneously, there'll be 10x (or more?) people badly sick then ventilators physically exist, so the death rate will rise in proportion to how fast people get sick. Plus less people sick in other ways will be able to get care if the medical system is overloaded. Another problem, compared to the flu, is that we have no vaccine for COVID-19 and won't for a while, so unlike being able to vaccinate the most at-risk folks against flu, we can't for COVID-19. I don't know if we're expected to maintain distancing for the ENTIRE time until a vaccine is invented and distributed or not - I guess we'll find out more as the situation develops. Meanwhile, I've started working from home - I'm a software developer for a company that isn't in dire straits and does something pretty recession-proof (freight forwarding software - goods never totally stop moving around). I don't go out much as it is, so I'm enjoying the change of pace. Mostly just hoping my parents don't get sick - I'd hate for them to suffer.

Now an actionable argument I can get behind! I've nagged a few folks to vote. EDIT: It looks like since I did that SM64's share has actually gone *up*, haha.

Super Mario 64 is the #1 most speedran game on https://www.speedrun.com/games by a substantial margin (202 active players, compared to second place Celeste's 157 active players) so it's not surprising to me that the most speedran game also has the most widely enjoyed TAS. No need to invoke conspiracies when there's a reasonable mundane explanation.

I was expecting to have such a rules-defining discussion from the moment this was published and wasn't let down. Seems like we've come to a good conclusion! I think the RTA-oriented timing record is more interesting too. And completely destroying a game by skidding on a cliff is extremely novel. Though I do pine for a non-glitch TAS now after remembering all the gameplay that got cut out, haha.

Interesting new development: Even when ACE is banned, you can supply your filename as DATA to a function that calls another function based on what your filename was. This can be used to make a very fast any% no ACE route. I think the OoT community will rule soon on how to define categories. Link to video Link to video

Nicely done. The subtitled supercut encode is a must for sure. After skipping through all of the game's intended content, you skip even the unskippable stuff through co-ordinate overflow and OoB. A nice and destructive any% that makes the game cry. Yes vote.

A new DK64 and Sonic Heroes TAS on the same day, this is so great! I loved the commentary video for this and the new route is amazing too. Such a wonderful watch, yes vote. TAS of the year is going to be tough in 2020!
