Did you just placed "nonluck" and "randomized" at the same sentence? How does that work? :|
Let me explain.
In Prismata, some units can be played every game (such as Wall), but many units are not always available.
At the start of the game, an RNG is used to make a list of these optional units.
Both players get access to this list of optional units, and then RNG is never called again.
It's like if you played chess but before the game began, randomized all the non-pawn pieces and gave both players the same configuration. Randomized start, nonluck gameplay.
Chip's Challenge? Nice... I remember playing this a lot on Windows back in the day.
Isn't it possible to skip levels by dying enough times in them? Could that be used as a time saving strategy?
Yeah you can skip levels if you die enough in a lot of games. You usually ban that technique in speedruns because it's really boring for both the runner and the audience. Who wants to see how fast you can NOT do any content in the game?
(I mean, you could always just enter the password for the last level then beat only one level. Obviously that's not going to be interesting too.)
Both VII and VII-2 contain hidden warp areas with all quest items near the beginning. While these are labeled "cheat rooms", they don't actually require cheats to enter, just knowing where the hidden teleporter is.
Feels equivalent to using the Golden Torizo code in Super Metroid to me.
Went back to re-watch some Melee TASes. I'm a bit concerned that someday those videos might just vanish. Perhaps Wak's Youtube channel might one day close without forewarning and poof, all HRC TASes for each character are gone.
So I'm asking, should we do something? I was thinking about downloading those videos to hold on to them.
Downloading them is a good idea. There are plugins for chrome and firefox that make it easy.
It feels like it 'should' be possible to optimize 0:33 so that the left black bullet spewer is parked on a little faster (which would get, what, six more bullets?). Does the combo not work if the homing lasers are released further to the top right?
I Am Not A Judge, but personally I think as long as it sounds like something the machine could plausibly boot up with it's okay.
e.g. picking the starting values of uninitialized RNG = ok.

I can only choose the character once at the start of the run. So I can only choose one of them for the run.

EDIT: Or you could package the movie with a lua script that picks a different character at random every time you play the TAS again. This is obviously the best solution

For what it's worth, I would love to make a TAS of Haunted Castle on Arcade, however, the sound of the game does not emulate properly in FBA-rr.
According to what I've heard, it does work properly in MAME-rr.

Looking through the user guide, I notice this emulator has frame advance. If it could someday also record movies, there's a game or two I have in mind.
