Wow, very cool looking glitch! Perhaps you should try using a memory editor in saturn emulator to artificially make SOS possible to do, to see if it works the same as in PS1, and also look and see what stats and pointers are immediately after the inventory in saturn (for instance, is there an equivalent to the music pointer? I imagine the music works differently, but how much differently?) and if you can do anything cool with it, that should make you more motivated to find a way to set up SOS ;)
Oh, I was thinking of werster's version differences pastebin. http://pastebin.com/kBENQqJ4 But I guess this only applies to RTA. Maybe FractalFusion can talk about why he chose gold over silver, because he didn't say in his TAS notes.
(For those who don't know, Save corruption is not known to be possible on PSP, Saturn or XBLA atm, which means no SOS/Total Control on those versions for now)
Only just got discovered so there's no TAS for it anyway.
Only works in gold.
I recall gold is faster than silver, thus gold was chosen - crystal is a different, longer game, so would be its own category - but at the same time, for TAS it's not an awful lot different to watch, so what's the incentive to re-invent the wheel?
Main problem with such a TAS is that if it went from power on, we'd have to wait 40ish minutes for the TAS to get to goldenrod.
I've never heard any buzz about this category, so don't expect a TAS of this for years :P
So now you know why.
All the people saying 'well, the internet is fundamentally unsecure' are missing the point. The point is as follows: A database leak is the thing identity thieves want the most, because it means thousands to millions of accounts and passwords are leaked all in one go, and you can mine them in bulk. Sure, there are exploits and attacks for any feasible authentication system between two people or a person and a server, but they only give you one password at a time, so they're not nearly as likely to be bothered with. (Just be careful when using airport wifi, where this is no longer true!)
I feel like a similar situation occurs in pokemon gold. The new 'coin case arbitrary execution route' saves tens of minutes but is very boring. So who is motivated to TAS that? (also, RIP the really cool 20 minute chrono trigger glitched TAS)
One ok idea is to use two passwords - one for financial services and emails you link to such services, one for stuff where it doesn't matter if the account is broken into, or if you suspect the security is bad enough it might get leaked.
Eating a chuck is clearly a sprite glitch - it's doing an operation on a sprite the game isn't equipped to handle (morally equivalent to stunning a normally unstunnable sprite, etc)
Both of the SMW 'brown platform glitch' and 'stun glitch' TASes have common properties:
-They execute OAM data as code
-They trick the game into doing unexpected operations on sprites (null sprite spit in one, stunning a sprite that shouldn't be stunnable in the other)
As for SMW2:
-First you have null egg glitch -> credits call any%, where you use having a null sprite in your inventory to grab and mess with the properties of sprites around you, and then do a TAS-only credits call.
-Then you have L+R any%, where L+R can be used to skip many levels.
-Then you have null egg glitch any%, you can do things like grab the ending cutscene of 1-8 and bring it to every level to finish them without doing them properly.
Since any% doesn't do all levels (it skips the extra levels from 100%ing the main levels of each world), and a glitchy any% (null egg glitch any% with no credits call) would 'do all main levels' but skip tons of them using null egg magic, I think the only way to slice it is - define it by the two very different glitches it doesn't do. any% no L+R, no null egg glitch.
Yeah, IMO all fighting game runs should be playarounds, it's very rare for speed to be a good goal because AI can't keep up with TAS :) Show off TAS-only combos, 30Hz input related oddities, glitches, making fools of the enemy, whatever
Do you know if there are emulator/console differences for japanese glitched too?
Is there an emulator with more accuracy than VBA to do better testing? Mednafen?
It's a little more subtle than that, because the cheats emulate things that you can physically do with difficulty:
-Bring your memory card to an F-Zero AX machine and unlock everything
-Get the japanese version of F-Zero GX (the AR codes give you the same parts you can unlock on japanese GX but on english)
It indeed doesn't make any effect for a story mode only TAS, because you have fixed vehicles in that mode.
