You probably can build speed without pressing A. However, after a short period of time the trick doesn't work and it resets your speed. Probably there's a way to do it but how can that even be helpful? We can't transfer vertical to horizontal speed without pressing A.

Well I don't really know every state Mario can be at in the air. Maybe there's some air state where he can actually wire grab (So that we can 0.5x for 120 stars)?
Thanks Cohan, we'll definitely need that.

Nobody has a clue on how to get past it at the moment.
It just seems a pretty tall pole which you HAVE to grab... I think we need something new for this, probably the glitches we know so far are not enough. If only there was a way to build vertical speed while on the ground...

Second floor, not first.

The problem is getting enough height off the lava, right? Is it possible to store a jump from the lava on the lower elevator and carry it to where it does some good?
What lower elevator? What do you mean with "where it does some good"?
Even if you could store it on the elevator, what could we do?

You mean Hyperspeed ZB? You can't recover from a ZB by pressing A.
You mean without? What about using dives instead of ZB, does it only work with ZB?
Yeah whatever, I'm bad at prepositions.
You build speed by doing dives, but you stop at exactly 52.026969909667969 speed.
Weird number... just tested now.
EDIT: It stops in-between 52 and 52.05 it seems, depending on how you approach it.
By "stop" I mean that in the next DRs the speed will be the same.
Just fixed the list. JRB 100 coins is actually 2x and the insane trick possibility would reduce it to 1x so it's another thing.

So... how many stars could you collect without pressing the a button at all? even in the castle sections.
That is pretty generic.
If you mean from power-on new file then it's... 48 stars. You'd be stuck at Bowser in the Fire Sea.
What's stopping 0 presses for that stage?
Also what other stars in castle prevent 70 star 0 A button?
For first question: you can't get in the wired room thing. I mean, you normally should leave the pole to get in there. To jump off the pole you need to press A. And no, leaving by pressing Z is not enough. Glitch pole grab requires AT LEAST to hold A (Even though we still aren't sure if Mario can be in a state where he can hang up on wire without pressing A) (Yes, the actual pole glitch is a wire grab glitch)
For second question: We need another 0x star. We'd be at 69 stars if we could get past BitFS pole without pressing A.
Full list of stars/movements that are not 0x and could fix this problem (Bolded the ones I feel like they could happen) (Listed by number of A presses):
*DDD: 100 coins (0.5x)
*WF: To the Top of the Fortress (No Owl) (1x)
*BoB: Mario Wings to the Sky (1x)
*Pressing the Invisible Cap Switch (1x)
*Getting to the second floor of BBH (1x)
*BBH: Ride Big Boo's Merry-Go-Round (1x)

*SSL: Pyramid Puzzle (1x)
*JRB: Treasure of the Ocean Cave (1x)
*JRB: Blast to the Stone Pillar (1x)
*JRB: Through the Jet Stream (1x)
Reason: With the metal cap you maybe could get below the star and get it when it runs out.
*JRB: Red Coins on the Ship Afloat (1x)
*The Princess's Secret Slide (Not sub 21) (1x)
*SL: Snowman's Big Head (1x)

*LLL: Elevator Tour in the Volcano (2x)
*JRB: 100 coins (2x)
*DDD: Pole-Jumping for Red Coins (2x)
*HMC: Watch for Rolling Rocks (2x)
Pro tip: it's not ABC. What is he doing? I can't read japanese.
EDIT: nvm it's a "all jumps prohibited" run. Meh it's not so entertaining imo. The TAS is pretty bad too :v
EDIT2: It could be pretty useful to watch some stuff on Nicovideo. We all probably searched for some interesting stuff in ABC but our group didn't do it on Nicovideo. How do you say A button challenge in japanese? ;-;

VSC stands for Vertical Speed Conservation. You might know it as an useful tecnique to ascend heights greater than 158, but you can also use it to keep negative speed from when you fall. Basically I dive recover, precisely land on the edge of the platform with -58, punch (standing still or punching keeps your Vertical Speed) and when I leave the platform I quickly get to -75 (Which is max)
The problem was that there was not enough time to do this. Notice:

Notice that even by managing to do BitFS 0x we still need 2 other 0x stars (Not including BitFS reds) (At first it was 4 but I chopped JRB Plunder in the Sunken Ship which also gave access to the eel star, Pannenkoek will upload the video when he will manage to get the trick I guess). The most likely ones to happen are these ones:
*VCutM reds (Which means also pressing the Invisible Cap Switch) which also brings to SL Into the Igloo 0x with Invisible Cap
*DDD: Chests in the Current
We have many ideas in mind but they don't seem to be realizable for now.
I would like to bring the attention to this:

This is the list of useful glitches in ABC (done by pannenkoek2012), they all can be very useful.
► cloning objects (goombas, pokeys, bob-ombs, coins, stars, shell, fire)
► cloning techniques (transport, premature, interference)
► holding things hands free
► hat in hand displacement
► star dance clip
► vertical speed conservation
► 207 dive recover
► glitchy ledge grab
► shell hyper speed
► wind hyper speed
► hyper speed water sliding
► hyper speed walking
► frame walking
► edge grinding/diving to gain speed fast/do DRs/climb steep slopes
► horizontal speed conservation
► C^ trick
► overflow water level (in WDW)
► manipulating enemies to where you want them
► chuckya/exploding bob-ombs to clip through walls
► having chuckya throw you
► chuckya out of body experience
► bob-omb momentum
► handsfree bob-omb teleport (momentum, goomba pushing)
► amp clip
► midair fire bounce
► throwing a cork box into yourself

From this post on, no one has to fret about 22 hours of water overflow in ABC any% - we're back to all the long stars being duping, swooper manipulation, etc that we're here to see.
I'm very sorry to announce that the overflow water glitch will probably be necessary unless we find not 2 but 4 new stars to get improved to 0x (Not including BitFS reds).

This point is not correct. You should watch unassisted speed run for this game (or at least previous submission) before saying this. May be difference is not too big, but it definitely exist. For example in underwater level random seashells not allow player to use upper path so long; Also sequence break (first) at railway in Pleasure Island 2 is superhuman-like and impossible to execute without tools.
I see, I see. Well, you sure got a point here, and sorry for saying non-true facts.
Still, for an average viewer (like me) it is not entertaining. I keep my no vote.

Voted no.
I don't understand how people could tolerate watching this. There's nothing in the TAS I found entertaining. There's nothing superhuman-like in this TAS, nothing that can difference this from a normal playthrough.

75% is a damn good quota for Google Translate!
I know right lol
And yeah, quota is right. Grr.
EDIT: So, I'm a wiki editor now. I already started translating the page (http://tasvideos.org/WelcomeToTASVideos/IT.html)
Alaktorn, if you find some stuff a bit ambigue tell me. I'll do my best.
If that's the case, Google Translate is getting 1/4 of the sentences wrong.
Don't underestimate the effort you can put in finding the right terms. It can be tough sometimes.
Anyway yeah, I was thinking about the forum, but it would be better doing main pages first.
