It seems that points are awarded for not dying and for being further along horizontally when both players are offscreen. That would make a speed race in Oil Ocean interesting.

I've been watching a lot of Sonic Hacks on youtube, and I have to ask. WHY is the Sonic CD jump sound effect used in basically everything?

Gens has a bunch of builds for Sonic TASing, so I'm not surprised about that. You don't need to make the TAS in BizHawk in this case, it's just we go with a database of game names that BizHawk is tuned to check - it's just easier to open the rom in BizHawk and get the name from there than it is to submit a run and be told you had the wrong name.

Kiske - You need to use the ROM name that BizHawk shows when you hit the little checkmark in the bottom left, that way there's no confusion as to which game version is to be used. Honestly, I think most of us are going to have REV01 anyway, but it's something that we need to be certain of.

Because that implies we want people to be responsible for their actions and the consequences thereof.

Wood Zone, Hidden Palace Zone, and Genocide City Zone - though to be fair Genocide City Zone is only a speculated name as far as I'm aware. There's a hack that "restores" the zones into the game, but the restored zones don't really match the design philosophy of the rest of Sonic 2 - they feel more like rejected levels from Sonic 3.

You can use Zora and Goron punch to defeat sakon, you can also use the Great Fairy Sword and I'm pretty sure a Deku stick works too. Eventually there will be a place with information like this... (getting worked on little by little)
I won't have the GFS by that point, but I'll give the other options a try on my other file and report what really works for this purpose. I need Sakon to stay alive since I'm also getting the Blast Mask that cycle. Since the Zora mask works and I'll probably still be in the middle of Great Bay Temple at that point of the cycle, I'll go that route. EDIT: So I accidentally managed to trigger the "Tatl Exposits About Skull Kid" cutscene on Cycle 0 (that is, before getting the Ocarina back) by being in Termina Field near the Southern Swamp exit when the tower rises up. Since it can be triggered on Cycle 0 after all, is it possible to use this to save time at all, or is it just a silly little fluke? Also doing it this way - the tower's flipped to "accessible" during the cutscene. I think it's a side effect of there not being a special one just for the cutscene.

Wow, all these Genesis TASes are coming in using Gens instead of BizHawk. I'm guessing GensHawk is a relatively recent addition, then. As I'm having trouble getting the imported movie to sync, I'm gonna have to actually get Gens.

I liked watching it, so I'm going to vote yes. I'm also going to vote yes for this game in the future - far more entertaining than that other SMB3 Hack we've got on here. With that said, I thought the Topman Master fights in particular could be manipulated better. What controls how far he recoils after taking damage?

This is ridiculously amusing, moreso because it's entirely because of the timing change that this even occurs. If this gets published, would it qualify for "Multiple movies in one movie" since it syncs as intended in an older BizHawk version and does a massive Wrong Warp in the current version?

I'm not sure if this is just my computer being wonky, but for whatever reason my login cookie doesn't seem to update across sessions - the practical upshot being that I have to manually log out when I want to clear topics I've already read out of "Read posts since last visit", and if a thread gets posts before I've done so but after I've read it the first time, the forum directs me to the post that I originally saw when I checked the thread. I'm not sure I'm explaining myself very well. I check a thread and the thing sends me to the first new post. I check it again later after someone else posts and it sends me to the post I saw originally instead of the newest unread post.

Thumpa-bump. Using BizHawk for general play led to this happening. I know it has something to do with the video plugin stuff, but I'm not entirely sure how to reconfigure to correct this.

Psycho Waluigi also is natively made for Windows and isn't simply a remake of an older game. This Gruefooded run is for a homebrew port of an arcade game, and the port itself has drawn negative feedback from our community for being, for lack of a better phrase, defanged.

Yellow/Not Yellow has the most variety due to actual Trainers being different. Maybe pair up Yellow (U) with Green (J)? In all seriousness, pairing up Red (U) with Blue (U) or Red (J) with Green (J) is less impressive because I don't think anything's different between the two outside of random encounters. EDIT: So I should have asked this when I posted originally, but how do the memory domain addresses in BizHawk's RAM Watch correspond with the memory addresses on the Pokemon resources page?

Is it possible to recover the Blast Mask without using the sword? The cycle I'm currently using to get the Gilded Sword is unfortunately a cycle I was also planning on getting the All Night Mask on. If it's impossible I'll just have to start the Razor Sword after rescuing the old lady actually run a more optimized 2nd cycle to get the Razor Sword ASAP - which personally I think sucks because it could be fun doing what I can of Great Bay and Ikana Canyon without a Sword, and I already know I can do Snowhead without the sword. Though having all six bottles by the end of the 3rd cycle would be a bonus. No, it's not for a TAS or a Speedrun - better players than I can do it more efficiently. I'm just doing this for fun (and possibly as my next LP project after Randomized Yellow)

So with the gruefooding of the recent submission on this game and discussion in the submission thread regarding whether it has merit as a remake, I figured I'd start a thread on the game itself. The actual game is open-source, so those who are so inclined could rebuild it so that the original challenge is there. I've already grabbed the code off of SVN to play around with it and see what I can tweak. Personally, I think that even though this game won't ever have anything in the Moons tier it's worth using in order to develop TAS habits such as frame-precision and researching engine quirks (the ladders trick as well as understanding RNG and AI manipulation).

It's open-source, so we could rebuild it so that it's properly challenging.

Previous Value: Last Change in the RAM Search options still isn't working properly, same issue as before. Also the release is reporting as version 1.9.0 svn 8271.

It's a great homebrew remake, sure, but we really should get a run of this on the arcade version as opposed to an unofficial game on a home console. If for no other reason, then because the unofficial game has lag frames out the wazoo.
