I didn't know GBA mode was kosher for a GBC TAS. I'm assuming that a Linked Game TAS would be a different beast entirely? The Red Ring is (supposed to be) earned in Seasons for killing the four golden beasts so it's probably better to assume it's unavailable for an Ages-first arc. The Green Ring might be more beneficial since it can be generated legit in either game, reduces the time spent fighting bosses, and allows for more damage boosting. Not to the same degree as the specialized Red and Blue rings, but the potential is there.

Enemies are basically "killed" if you bump into them, which can only help with the rampant laggery, but at the same time you're knocked on your butt which takes about a second or so to recover from, so unless it's a situation where they're in the way forever it's just better to avoid them anyway. If it wasn't for the infinite bottle shot trick that can be done in exactly one level, I'd probably never take any damage at all if I could help it.

I don't know if there are enough Bottles that are quickly gettable to be able to take a hit on Hard and still exit the stage the second time passing the exit gate (you have to pass it once to get Phil anyway) since you lose 3 bottles with each hit on Hard.

But Spikestuff does raise a good point. What purpose does a ponified encode serve? I can understand a camhacked encode, or an encode that shows off all the lua tools that were visible during the making of the TAS, but a simple graphical replacement doesn't exactly add anything. Especially when the video is only in 240p and therefore is hard to see the graphical changes on. Plus it would probably be more in character for Dash to be replacing Knuckles in a Knuckles run, as Knuckles' X speed increases the longer he flies

I'm handing this a meh vote. I've played this game and most of the entertainment factor is in trying to puzzle out what resources got stolen from where; with that said, regardless of the optimization or lack thereof of the submission, it looks unoptimized.

I think I've optimized the menus as far as I can - 909 frames from power on to the first plot screen. Some things I've already noticed and/or need to remember: 1) Landing animations are bad. Avoid them whenever possible. If at all possible, don't jump. 2) There is no "takes damage to save time" in this game - when you get hit, you lose bottles, and you need to have so many bottles to exit a stage (in addition to whatever the stage has you hunting in the first place) 3) Lag Management is going to be a major thing. Here's the Menus optimized as far as I can get them, plus a (basic) route through the first real level, "Gold Rush!". I know where most of my changes need to go (continuing on as opposed to waiting for enemies in at least two instances, maybe with the moth at the top of the ladder as well).

RUGRATS Time Travelers ROM INFORMATION Game Title: RUGRATS TWOAVME CRC: 3b (3b) Checksum 1d80 (1d80) FRAME CHECKPOINTS 0 - Power On 128 - First accepted Input Frame 154 - Licenced By Nintendo screen appears 419 - Licenced By Nintendo fully faded out 438 - Nickelodeon footprint 439 into 440 - PRESS START HERE! 482 - Klasky Csupo splash 484 into 485 - PRESS START HERE! 527 - THQ Splash 529 into 530 - PRESS START HERE! 573 - Creations Splash 576 into 577 - PRESS START HERE! 621 - Game Splash !*ACCEPTS START*! 689 - Menu Screen 692 - Earliest(?) option selection input 793 - Options Menu Visible 794 - Earliest(?) acceptance of down in options 802 - Target frame for settings completion 837 - Menu Screen again 840 into 841 - PRESS START HERE! TARGET FRAME FOR FIRST STAGE SPLASH - 925 ---- Welp, I started out by trying to figure out how to do some one-upsmanship of that one person who keeps submitting stuff to the workbench without even posting WIPs through some Worms Armageddon GBC stuff, but then I realized that I wouldn't know any part of what I was doing there. So I started doing this instead. This is actually more fun than I thought it would be, and I started cheering when I found out that, in this current setup, 794 to 795 actually does accept down as an input (I had assumed that 796 was the earliest frame that down would be accepted), giving a target "final settings" frame of 802. Anyway, a few crowd-sourcing things to ask. 1) Anybody have experience with this game or else know where I can get my hands on some map dumps? 2) Are the frame checkpoints above optimal? I can't shake the feeling that I'm losing a frame or two somewhere but can't figure out exactly where at the moment. Probably in the top menu. 3) Can I upload my movie file directly to the forums, or do I need it hosted offsite while it's still a wip?

It's not really much of a playaround since you're using the same weapons over and over again, and I'd probably recommend just going straight into play instead of mucking around with the settings first... What I would expect from a Worms Playaround is something like knocking at least one worm into the water with every shot, or a round where every weapon is used exactly once for a win, or a round where you manipulate the AI into attacking each other despite your worm being the obvious shot.

I disregarded that one because the description says "a glitch allowing Yoshi to eat "nothing" enables players to manipulate memory and code", which sounds like it could be another avenue into Total Control. Still, yeah that one is a good example of non-TC Game End.

@feos: Is there a Game End Glitch run of Super Mario World that doesn't involve Total Control? I think it would help explain the differentiation between the two categories better if we have concrete examples, and I haven't been following the TAS scene long enough to know of one off the top of my head or with a cursory search.

This movie is what I will think of in the future when I see the phrase "Contains Speed/Entertainment Tradeoffs" +1 YES ALSO: I'm suggesting grabbing a screenshot from where Knuckles is shadow boxing while the Golem in Sandopolis 1 is getting ready. I snapped 227268 but it's got the frame counter and lag counter on it.

You mean like these runs? Both use the "intended" route but skips every single battle within said route, while still technically going to those battles by forcing the opponent to just quit. :P
I'm not sure I'd use "conventional route" language for games like Advance Wars because there's no meaningful route branching and the game can be perfected through raw strategy and a fair chunk of RNG manipulation. And really, that's the limited case where a "conventional route" tag would be helpful: if the only other (well known) movie of a game is just the exploitation of the same glitch 33 times in a row.

There are 65 pages of thread, I've kinda got a (now failed) speedrun on pause, and there's no "search this thread" function. So I have to ask. There's a door in the first Dark World dungeon that does not need to be opened to complete the dungeon thanks to the Magic Mirror. It's the north door to 1H, per Strategy Wiki. This leads to having an extra key. Which one would be best to substitute for in a conventional run? (I'm currently sitting at Maiden #1 with said extra key, if anyone wants the twitch stream I've got it set as my website in my profile) Nevermind, keys are non-transferable between dungeons. Poo.

Question. Is it faster to use a key or to pass through as a fairy?

The final round with Veran? If so then that's a major skip. Is there a Seasons equivalent?

If the majority of people wants to see a linked game TAS, it could easily be changed right now since the run needs to be redone from scratch anyway. In a linked game TAS we wouldn't bother with the Gasha Trees and just get the rings we need from the Ring Secret.
I don't know if that's such a good idea... did the Seasons TAS even pick up any rings?

The issue is that this one could eventually be console-verified, while the Pokemon Yellow one (if I'm understanding the author's comments correctly) can't. That alone makes me think it's more of a viable publication, but it's just not entertaining enough at the end. Just printing the digits of Pi like that isn't enough of a payload for me to sit through half an hour of Pokemon Gold, especially since the Pokemon Yellow one was more entertaining and hit payload a lot sooner. I second the backup Gruefood recommendation as it does demonstrate a faster reaching of arbitrary code over the other Pokemon Gold movie.

Anarchy at least realigns itself towards its current goal. The RNG has to be tweaked as time goes on to keep progressing.

It can't, that's why there's bias in the input.
RNG is running with a 5% bias on start, a 15% bias on A, and a 10% bias on B. The movement bias will be set for ~2% toward the current goal in the event it's needed, and if RNG is on to make it current.

RNGPlaysPokemon doesn't have rival streams trying to sabotage it. Then again, RNGPlaysPokemon isn't nearly as entertaining to watch live, either, as there's no interactivity. Plus the streamer does have to occasionally shove that one in the right direction. That's where TPP was (and honestly? STILL IS) the more attractive stream. Although I would like to run an RNG-played game of Revelations: The Demon Slayer. That one I'm pretty sure you can brute-force your way through.

So wait, that guy did a bunch of Touhou games with one set of input? That's... impressive.
