Yeah, I was about to have a tendency to do every level different. And yes 100% kills could easily get boring, so I'll avoid that possibility. The faster version was pretty hard to do, the problem being that when you don't kill enough enemies, you cannot move to the right. The worst part was about the crouching guy, for I don't know why but he shot me whatever I could have done, which does not happen in the "entertaining" version. So that's just "takes damage to save time" but meh. Despite of that, the version was made to be the cleanest, but some moves are useless, even if outnumbered compared to the older movie. For now I'll just continue and do funnier levels. punching enemies while jumping will be harder. There are two moments where I'll get my fun : The car chase and the boss fights. I intend to dance the most perfect way during the car chase while still dodging every bullet (or as much as Tracy can), so I'll work a lot on it. You don't imagine what I mean by perfect dancing hehe. But I will make it for only one level so it won't be boring to watch the same thing three times. The boss fights sure are manipulatable. I remember I had to kill Flattop using savestates, but I could never hit him accurately >.< . A single different frame and everything is changed. So I'll make the luckiest fights while fighting against them. Re-post edit : Crap. My computer will be shut down tomorrow for my work at high school has not been good enough. I was going to release the whole stage 1 but now I'll just provide what I got. The whole movie is here, I stop at Itchy, doing an awful mistake by getting him on the left since he walks to the right but anyway, here is the savestate to get to the boss. The second level was a pain. I spend a lot of time in it, but still lost some frames around, so see it by that savestate and tell me what you think, I may see it a looong time after but it's still okay. Goodbye. Repost edit 2: Okay. For now here's the story so far. I actually got some authorizations to get on my computer every sunday, so I can get to publishing the run even slower, but at a rate at least. Today I made the links cleaner in the first edit, so you don't have to be clicky-clicky to get to the movie and savestates. I am oftenly getting to finish that damn Itchy fight, I will publish the last movie as soon as I defeat him. Trying to be entertaining is no fun at all >_>, I made more than 2000 rerecs so far, and I deleted by mistake the boss fight when I was about to make it. Anyway I hope that will be funny to you all viewers. I thought that I would get first to a not-that-beautiful version, but I think I'm not going to submit two Dick Tracy movies, regarding the fact that I'm really overcome by the game at only first stage. Here's my deal : I would like every comment about the movie so far as my future stage 1 movie, even small or bad. I'm going to redo stage 1 after that, so the mov would have absolutely no flaws. I will be doing that at every stage. That's all. I'm counting on you, see you next sunday.

You know, I saw these days Sprintgod's SoR2 speedrun, and I just thought I really wanted to have a SoR3 movie in my videos folder. I know I'm just repeating, but I cannot not ask >_>. How is the run going? Is there something new about it? I don't see anything else to say but that your run is the number one I'm waiting for. Good luck!

What's happening with the run? It looked promising, but I didn't see any updates for a long time. I hope there will be updates soon.

That may screw it up somehow, Snes9x and ZSNES both offer a way to read the rom and the patch together without ipswin, but now I'm not sure that's the problem. Everybody had a problem with limit, then they were saying their rom was pal, so sorry now I cannot help you a lot.

I think that from power-on is unofficial.

Meaning that the rom you patched is pal. Use a NTSC one, japaneese or american.

Okay, I can't stand still. Yes I know there is a Dick Tracy topic here, but since there is only 3 posts in it, I decided not to bump a more-than-a-year-old topic. First of all, I'm not having holidays for a long period of time, so I won't have a lot of spare time for now, but I still wanted to ask questions to everybody. Now second of all, this game is one I played long long ago, and it means a lot to me to complete a run of it. I would like some people to see it, so I wonder if you can call that egocentrism, playing to get famous or whatever, but I want everybody (I mean everybody) to have fun watching it no matter how it will be rated and I swear I'm going to do it as entertaing as perfect. I just found too bad Dick Tracy had been forgotten by everybody, I didn't find any tips about it, not too many people know about that game although it was revolutionary and nobody knows it in France (The only one that wants to do it real-time is zfunk007 at sda, I congrat him because he will do it on hard mode. This game, being cool, is also hard to finish, so a real-time run is more conveinient.). The point is : All the tricks I had to get have been discoverd by myself, except for the shooting and punching while jumping. Then my first question : If you have any tips about the game, anything, let me know. I found about jumping right while facing left, about jumping over a crouching person. I don't know anything about the game, so I'm just playing with instinct. Don't worry, my stunts are still pixel-perfect, I just use a lot of savestates twice or more for the same thing. I didn't finish the first scene, but anyway it is useless if no one find the challenge I set for the game entertaining. I kill people at the background, but it might be too hard to understand (You don't see the guy getting hit, he just dies). I kill more people than needed, this delaying me of some frames, but I don't kill everybody, which is not really entertaining. So my second question : Do you think I should do a 100% kill/destroy? One that has not played the game will find Tracy especially slow, so I should better aim for the real fastest time. And seeing him redundantly jumping to destroy everything on earth can be fun, as it can be boring. But I still like a 100% a little bit better. It's okay if you can't answer for now, I'll finish quickly multiple vids of the different categories, so I could get more accurate opinions. But if you played that game, do not hold back. I'm doing the thing slowly (around half a minute every day), but I have no reason to say I might stop it. So? Repost edit with major update : I finished a flawless and an entertaining one. The flawless aims for fastest time as possible with no break bonus (I don't destroy anything, no phone booth and all) whereas the entertaining is not well-made (problems with frame advance, it is 1 sec slower than a flawless one), but kills almost every enemies on screen. The fastest is here, the older one is here (omg I even put authors comments in the old one O_o). Tell me what you noticed. Some may be what I already know, and these scenes are way not definitive, so just put your comments here.

Hmmm Supermetroid = Supremetroid ^^ Well, Sper Metroid is also the game I like the most. I got a lot of fun with Limit, and think that if someone has to do a hack's speedrun, it should be that one. The hack is hard, incredibly well-staged, and asks for programming errors in the game ;) . I'm sure a 100% tas of it should be way entertaining, but well, Redesign looks also really good.

The original version of it was a little game made with flash that was one level long. It's here in newgrounds, but I don't remember where it was. That small game had quickly a lot of success, and the website wanted to make a real game of it. A few people know that little history and played the game. Let me tell you : It's addictive. I was wery disappointed, here in France there is no releases of Alien Hominid on any console yet, since nobody knows newgrounds in France. So I would encourage anyone to do a speedrun of it. In many ways it can be entertaining as hell (well hell can be really funny sometimes you know!). To anyone that has a little experience in TAS, don't hold back. I gladly hope you will not regret it.

Oh woops. I said the 3rd but it's the second actually, the one that you can shoot from the ground. Sorry.

About the missile pack I think he wanted to take it the second time he gets through that room, since he will have to in order to get power bomb and the E-tank. Correct me if I am wrong of course. I found some moments a little more entertaining, but one thing bothers me : Didn't you try to shoot the 3rd ventilator diagonally?

Well, good to see some news about the run anyway, right? I definitely know that sooner or later I will see the rest of Stage 4 scene 1, so it's all okay for me. I will, though, ask for something important : I heard of hex editing, which allows editing Gens movies as well as others TAS. The question is : Are you going to use it to edit something in your movie? Will you allow someone to do some parts that need editing? I'm 80% sure that hex editing doesn't change the randomness and the AI of other stages, and I think you wanted to redo the first stage. If not, then, at least, one thing should be explained, about why I am asking this. The options part (From power-on to Stage 1 scene 1) is 3 frames slower than a frame-perfect options part. It's still something to get that done, and after that you could have your opinion about if the "non-downward attack bug" part must be done again. Personnaly, I don't think it's necessary to do that stage 1 again, unless you can do it entertaining without losing real-life time doing Stage 4 : Stage 1 is entertaining enough because it shows lots of incredible moves, and anyway in most of the cases, enemies can't be downward'd, and Blaze's sword dash looks damaging enough. If you had to do this I'm sure Roo&Bruce group would possibly be quick-killed with that bug, and it's the only moment that was not entertaining as some amazing moments in the run. So I just thought I should provide that, do as you wish of course.

Thanks and anytime for the trick idea, I'm sure some other move can be faster than a jump for Zan anyway. How is the run going? I had problems too by speedrunning real-time the first third of the Stage 4 Scene 1, but after that the punks (Ice, Scarab) are easy to get rid of. I wonder if it is the same way with hard 2 players though.

With my computer, it is hard to make demos for multiple reasons. Sorry I didn't think about putting a demo earlier, though. Okay so here are the demos. They don't have savestates and are 2 minutes long, don't watch the first room and the fights please >.< .
  1. That demo shows the trick made with Blaze, with her dash attack. With that it's basically easy to do the trick, just do it before you can't control Blaze.
  2. Maybe you didn't get it (I explain badly). In that case, that one shall help you a little bit for understanding.
  3. I take Zan there, since you could see about his jump if it is possible or not. I made it once, I got lucky enough to get that far, but it still didn't work (You don't see him breaking the door hehe), even though I still believe it is possible.
Voilà.

Yes, you can get through the door without having to stop. It also works for the first room, by breaking it while jumping; but the second one is different : If you stop, your character does a non-directed special and walks to the last room, which is way longer, and you can't break it to solve the problem. That needs explaination, since it is weird to describe it. Words will be repeated, I don't want Litterature Nobel Prize anyway. Hope you'll get it. Just when you are about to lose control of your character to stop and have to break the door, do a jump through the door. If you weren't about to lose control of your character, you will touch the door, fall down, and have to break it if time runs out, so you don't save time. But if the timing is good, you will get through it (actually you seem to be in front of the door, but you continue going right to the exit.), without breaking it. Sounds bizarre, huh? Well, if you got a little bit through the door but not enough, when you will hit the ground, you will have to lose control of your character to do the whole thing again, so it's still time lost. Do a jump long enough to get out of the screen, and then you don't stop, you directly get to the next room, so you save your time! You should try it out quickly (with Blaze (1P) for example, with her running 3-stars attack, you will see : it also works.) to get it all. I think you get what I mention, it is indeed in SprintGod's SOR2 run, but it is harder to pull out to my opinion.

Okay thanks. Wow, I realize I moved something there O_o. Just one more question : In stage 5 scene 1 (or you can call it 2 since it is the 2nd room with the same music.), I saw it is possible (with Blaze at least, her "running slide" or whatever) to get through the door without having to break it and to walk with you unable to run : I think it is possible with Zan too, but with running and jumping before all enemies dies. Just a thing that seems to save you an interesting load of time, since I didn't see it on the first run, I noticed it recently.

Okay, I have been seeing that TAS for a while, and now I would like to say some things :
  1. Congratulate you, Atro city, for the beggining of your 2P run which is really entertaining, as for your 1P run, which is great.
  2. Asking for you to continue through Stage 4, I want sooo mush to see the ninjas and Yamato fights, I had a lot of fun with your 1P's ones. Please, don't give up!
  3. Informing of something I saw : You said earlier (Shiva) that hitting both the same guy, and seeming to hit each other without doing so is impossible with Zan and Blaze. I did it with these two characters against a ninja, although I wonder if it was luck or something I might have misunderstood (I was real-time, I'm not TASing). Anyway that trick is not useful, but it's still entertaining.
I don't know if it is useful, but Streets of Rage 3 is a game I love, I was going a long time ago to record a real-time speedrun, but well, it's so hard not to take damage. So I'm hoping you will continue someday the run. Good luck with it!
