So, I describe how it's done and you conclude it can't be done? I find that very confusing.

Hmm, the encode of the published movie is wrong. It's an encode of the first entry, with the missed shot... Can some publisher please replace the encode with a new one based on the actual movie?

That's because, as I said, the enemies are not made with sprites, but with tiles and the player character is made with sprites. By the way: is that a fake key in the screen of 6:51?

Note that MSX Vampire Killer is made for MSX2, so different (newer, better) hardware than The Cure.

Many NPC's are made with tiles, not sprites. That's because the hardware only supports 4 sprites on a line, before flickering occurs. The player character already consists of quite some sprites, as sprites can only have one single color. The tile usage for NPC's also explains the jerky animations of them... If you didn't notice sound you're either joking or you had sound muted :P You also can't jump on stairs in the original Vampire Killer game by Konami.

Why is it bad? Due to the graphics/sound? (Note that it's only a 48kB ROM for MSX1 hardware (1983)....)

From the website I mentioned earlier: "The hunchback character was originally to be 'Robin Hood'. Hence the green costume and the game stages with arrows. The artist (who drew the Robin Hood character) left the company before the decision to change the theme to 'Hunchback'. By the time a new artist was taken on, the green costume had become accepted and no-one questioned it (someone commented that the Robin Hood character, as drawn, looked like a hunchback)."

CoolKirby: the reported time is including the tape loading time. The YouTube encode skips most of the loading sequence, because it's not interesting. See the "Tape game" section of the submission text for some details.

Good topic, I've also brought this up on IRC a few weeks ago. One thing because it's now hard to just get a list of MSX videos. Note that there are also console versions of MSX... And the hardware of MSX1 is very similar to Sega SG-1000 and Colecovision.

You really couldn't do this in a normal speed run: it is full of really, really, really close shaves. If you look carefully you'll notice. Another example is getting into the destinations. There is a certain tolerance on making the target, which is abused to the max to save time. Other notable close shaves which are really on the very edge: 1:51, 2:02, 2:25, 3:12.

Thanks for the support CoolKirby... it's hard to get some it seems... By the way, I don't mind people voting No, but I'm interested in some comment explaining the vote, so I can learn how to improve stuff and what people find interesting.

Darn, you're right about the missed shot... I improved the movie, new upload in my user files. Staff, please replace the movie with the newly uploaded one. I updated the submission post with a new YouTube video of that run.

Yeah, more or less. I think the goal I used makes sure the run is not too repetitive and is something nice to achieve. Going further is just 'more of the same'. It's not exactly the same though, e.g. challenging stage 2 is different than 1. But going further would make it boring, IMHO.
When does it repeat? Also, how different is stage 2 compared to 1? (I've never played this game before).
Here's a video of challenging stage 2 (which is just stage 7): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=wtmcGbxKYL4#t=226s I don't know exactly where it repeats.
