Dwedit posted this game on another forum and felt compelled to post it here (and a bunch of other places as well). It's just that good. Game website: http://zarat.us/tra/offline-games/eversion.html Direct download link: http://zara.verge-rpg.com/eversion.zip Controls: esc - Go to title menu (you can revisit any stage that you've played) p - Pause z - Jump x - "Evert" The goal of the game is to "rescue the princess" (yawn), but the real challenge lies in getting all of the gems. The main draw of the game is the ability of your character to "everse" between different worlds (sorta like Zelda 3) when at a specific spot. You can tell you're at an "eversion point" when the background color changes. The differences between the worlds are not only cosmetic, but also effect things like block properties and enemy placement, making the game sort of puzzly. Eversion also changes some other things, but I won't spoil it for you. Just a note of caution: To me, this game is very reminiscent of Sunsoft's NES titles, in that it's deceptively kid-friendly exterior hides a nerve-racking and nightmarishly difficult interior. I found it to be quite short (only 7/8 levels) and manageably difficult, but I know that some of you won't have the nerves to complete this game (things start heating up about halfway through). Still, I found it fun, but it's definitely not for everyone. Have fun! :-)

That list only applies to the arcade version.

My guess would be that the boss's invulnerability period is set to zero (or ignored) when it is offscreen.

Somehow I was not bored by the end of the hour, which I found weird considering the run's length and pace. Yes vote. 6.5/8 As far as the Sunsoft levels are concerned, I'd complete them, but only as part of a separate movie. This movie is long enough as it currently is, and a run that only includes those levels might be more digestible for those who were put off by this run's length.

This game is very surreal. While I'm not sure whether or not I'd like it, it did make for a very interesting movie.

I definitely think it's possible to survive a 1 km freefall under TAS conditions, but only if you could take you clothes off and make a parachute out of them in time. :P A better question would be whether or not you could trick SDA into accepting a speedrun done under these conditions. EDIT: And what period of time would constitute one "frame"? A planck time? If so, optimizing even a single second of "gameplay" would take a ludicrously long amount of time.

This problem also happens to me, and I'm also using Vista.

Works like a charm! :D EDIT: As long as I'm asking questions... I'm unable to see the frame counter while emulation is paused. How can I correct this?

I'm mapping a game, and I want to change the background color so I can rip some sprites and stuff. The problem is that I can't. I tried using the hex editor to edit the PPU memory address, but it appears that the game likes to reset the color back to normal every non-lag frame. I then tried using the cheat console, but it can't access the PPU memory. I considered using a Lua script, but from what I've read it also suffers from the same problem. So, short of hacking the game, is there anything I can do to rectify this problem? I have considered reconstructing the sprites using the pattern table view, but it would be horrifically tedious. :/

I shuffled some categories around and added a couple stars, thus bringing the total to 26. Instant stars (2 Stars) Super Mario 64 "0 star" Gunstar Heroes Good choices. I approve. SMW (1 Star) SMW small only or SMW any% Flip a coin. Seriously. Sonic (2 Stars) I abstain due to unfamiliarity with the series and their movies. Metroid (2 Stars) Metroid II glitched SM, MF, or MZM 100% I'm surprised M2 glitched run wasn't nominated. It's one of the more literal examples of "breaking a game open." The 100% runs are likewise some of the best pieces of TASing on this site, but I feel that only one of them should have a star. Megaman (2 Stars) Mega Man 1 Mega Man X MM1 has the best glitching, while MMX is the best non-glitched MM run on the site. I feel that the RM&F runs are too similar to MM1 (lots of zipping) to warrant a star. Zelda (1 Star) The Legend of Zelda No contest. Castlevania (2 Stars) Castlevania 1 The most palatable of the GBA glitchfests CV1 just shows how much of a tank Simon Belmont is. As far as the GBA games are concerned, I feel that one of the glitched runs should get a star, but I don't feel qualified to select one. Wire TAS (1 Star) Ninja Five-0 or Bionic Commando Spiderman 3 is nauseating on several levels. No star for it. Umihara has the best physics, but require knowledge of the game (which is very obscure) to understand. Ninja Five-O and Bionic Commando both have a good balance between swinging and action. Both are good, but I'm leaning towards Five-O. Special concept (3 Stars) MMX+MMX2 Kings Bounty or Monopoly Lost Vikings - The dualrun needs no explanation. - I'm leaning slightly towards the Monopoly run, mostly because the manipulation is more obvious. - Lost Vikings is the best example of multiplayer coordination on the site. Now, the tough decisions: NES games (5 Stars) Battle of Olympus Gradius Excitebike Arkanoid “Warpless” Gimmick! best ending SMB3 is out because it doesn't collect 99 lives anymore. :( Most of the rest don't really need any explanation. They are all very visibly obvious examples of tool-assistance, but the real reason I picked Gimmick! is because it's like Kirby, but even cuter. I just want to hug all the characters to death. :D SNES/SMD games (3 Stars) Rocket Knight Adventures Golden Axe or Comix Zone The Mask or a DKC run Honestly, this category has given me the most trouble, since most of the runs I would've picked are in the other categories. N64 (2 Star) Goldeneye Tetrisphere Majoras Mask just feels too long, and we already have a starred Zelda run. Goldeneye is both quite popular and one of the only FPS runs on the site. Tetrisphere is just audiovisual insanity.

I like how the BOX 1 fight lasts less than 10 seconds from the moment you enter the room to the moment you leave. 9.7/9.4

I doubt that the River City Ransom playaround will get a publishable improvement any time soon. :P
