Can't walk because there is no "walk" button. only "run". So I guess thats out the window. Can't MAKE a walk number because that would cause too many complaints on what that arbitrary number is. Shouldn't make a walking TAS because its very boring. Sonic TASes= Speed. No rings is impossible on some levels and provides no real reward or entertainment. All rings is only valid on Sonic 2, and noone has shown interest. Pacifist solely for the sake of it sounds very boring. Any other ideas anyone wants to have crushed into a fine powder? (In other words, anyone else got an idea that they really think is genuinely good and might impress us?)

Well, they said their copy of Majora's Mask kept freezing, so I don't blame them TOO much. That would be frustrating.
I'm guessing they played it on the Gamecube/Wii then (I remember having the same freezing problem). You'd think Nintendo, having made the two consoles, would be able to get some sort of accurate emulation going..

Majora's Mask. 0-star is too short for my liking, though I greatly appreciate the work and phenominal achievements put into it.

Toss up between Upthorn and JXQ, but I feel Upthorn shines the most in this category.

Mukki because he was the only one who didn't do Super Mario 64. There are of course other reasons for this decision, but those will become clear if you know the work he put into Majora's Mask.

I was unaware that the phrase "double kill!" was either trademarked or unique to a particular game. what else is it supposed to say? "Twice attack!"? I don't think so.

Except, he has no business to the North Pole because he actually lives at Korvatunturi, Finland :)
I can counter this by saying that penguins in the North Pole require presents too and have specifically asked santa for "priority air mail". They get everything first. My map is from the first delivery. Implausible, maybe, but I must not lose!

According to my calculations, Santa actually has over 24 hours to deliver his presents.
For the purposes of self-amusement, for the remainder of the month I shall refer to you as R2-D2. On topic, you are actually right. I neglected to remember that theres both -12 and +12. After realising this, I actually decided it was necessary to get a map and plot (roughly) the most likely route santa would take in order to deliver presents to everyone. Unfortunately I didn't have the patience to finish it, so I stopped at +7. If anyone wants to suggest a more efficient route based on population of areas, beliefs and general errors then please post them :) Original image: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/education/images/time1pr.gif

This is the time of year we give thanks to the best speedrunner out there, whos excessive frame-perfection and optimization means making it around the whole world in 12 hours, delivering presents along the way. Yes, you got it right. The ultimate TASer is infact Santa.

I'm not going to bother with nominating anything under the proposed categories right now, but I feel that there should be a unique award for Mukki and his Majora's Mask run (Titled either "Most persevered run" or "Most insane runner" or something similar) mainly because of the sheer amount of patience required for the run, mainly due to mupen and its trademark desyncs :) Also, I'd nominate the new line of SMB runs (or the one that started it) for least expected improvments award. I know neither of these awards exist, but I really don't care.

Impressive, 2 improvements for a long unobsoleted run, one after the other. Voting yes, don't suppose you have any frame comparisons to mmbossman's movie?

While this thread has been bumped and 2P mode mentioned: Doing anything with 2P with the three normal levels isn't particularly useful, as the levels (IIRC) very closely match their 1P mode counterpart. I have thought, however, that a 2P TAS of the Special Stage collecting 100% of the rings would be interesting to watch for the sheer WTF potential. Thoughts?
I like this idea alot, though I must mention 100% is impossible on the final special stage, at least.

Thats what she said! ... Carry on. Of course, I wouldn't make a post without putting something of relevance in (honest!) so here we go: whos going to finish the 100% with this new bug first? It'll be interesting to see who has the spare time to do such a thing. It'll also be interesting to see who does it just to get their name on the front page for a while :)

I would say the chances of it being accepted would be significantly increased if theres no new introduced bugs and the source is provided (if theres no source, it can't be improved upon in the future, and as such is a dead end) then I think its quite likely to be accepted, or at the very least speed up the process of judging.

I have to say this reminds me of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.
Vogon Captain: People of Earth your attention please. This is Prostectic Vogon Jeltz of the Galactic Hyperspace Planet Council. As you no doubt will be aware, the plans for the development of the outlying regions of the western spiral arm of the galaxy require the building of a hyperspace express route through your star system and, regrettably, your planet is one of those scheduled for demolition. The process will take slightly less than two of your Earth minutes thank you very much. *Crowd roars* Vogon captain: There’s no point in acting all surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for 50 of your Earth years so you’ve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaints and its far too late to start making a fuss about it now. *Crowd roars louder.* Vogon captain: What do you mean you’ve never been to Alpha Centauri? Oh for heaven sake mankind its only 4 light years away you know.! I’m sorry but if you can’t be bothered to take an interest in local affairs that’s your own regard. Energize the demolition beams! God I don’t know…apathetic bloody planet, I’ve no sympathy at all…
