Very nice set of addresses there :)
emu wrote:
Question: Is there the possibility to change these variables manually?
When I tried this recently with Sonic 3 & Knuckles I just did it in the action replay format which is XXXXXX:YYYY. Basically you just get rid of the two zeros at the start of each address. example: FFB35F:0000 - Dead boss spotlight Though, for some reason with Sonic 3 & Knuckles this didn't work. It changed values of addresses close to the ones I wanted, but not the exact address. Have a go and see what happens, I guess. Good Luck with the rest of your exams.

Sorry, but that is what I do, I constantly edit my posts, both grammatically and informationally.
The point is that they are only minor edits. If you're that fussy, can you not just wait 10 minutes and read over your post a few times? Or at least use the lovely Minor edit option previously illustrated by Xkeeper? (hint: it only comes up when you click "edit" for your own post.)

I've never even heard of a (J) rom for Sonic 1. The only two ROMs I could find were tagged "(W) (REV 00)" and "(W) (REV 01)". Will your movie work on either of those two?
Unless I'm mistaken those were the only two final ROMs that were released. (W = World)

Any error message that comes up? Have you tried a different RSP plugin?

Super Mario Bros 3 Raiscan Run. I started really well. I guess I'm too greedy with that mushroom in the dark area. My second playthrough of Bowser World was quite fast at the start but I decided to give it a rest for tonight.

I know you said NES, but is it possible that it could be extended to include other consoles? (in particular, Genesis.) If so I can get right on one.

Nice improvement Upthorn. Got my yes vote all the way.

May I request that when the AVI is made, can the sound setting be set so that 'PSG High Quality' is unchecked? Sonic's jump sound effect sounds odd when that's enabled, and the last AVI used that setting.
I second this notion. The 'PSG High Quality' Isn't what I consider to be accurate sound emulation, which is highly noticable with Sonic's jump sound. It just doesn't sound right, and can even get annoying.

I've been quoting all day so I feel I should just answer you directly. Never during that movie did I expect that you could find an improvement :D I only really did it because I loved playing Dynamite Headdy as a kid and wanted to see what could be done in the training areas. As such I did the whole of the intro 100% speed, did the Bruin fight only a few times at 50% to dodge the energy balls and only rerecorded around 20 times in total (mostly to avoid damage on the Headcase room and make an impossible jump in the Hangman room). Still, I'm glad something came out of it apart from entertainment :) Just for the record, I managed to complete Beau without recording with 20 seconds left on the clock. He didn't actually point at any empty shells that time, and I was confused when he did it my second try recorded (which is why I fire my head twice at the blank ones, I thought it was a bug) Anyway I do hope you keep up the extremely good work, I'm anxious for the next WIP.

I believe captions are in order. Jabu one: "Must.. Reach... Boomerang...Ungh..." Spirit Temple: "PEEKABOO!" I like how you are using the high def textures L4yer :) On a side note, I'm loving the run so far and I can't wait to see what improvements you manage inside the Forest Temple!

Also, could anyone rehost the video on some other free webspace? I can't use Rapidshare due to the specifics of my LAN.
Enjoy. Might want to turn the sound off though.

Just a few comments.

I want to keep them in sync a lot. It looks very bad if they are not.
What exactly do you mean by them in sync? Like previously mentioned, the games have different lengths. I'm pretty sure one is going to be completed before the others. Do you mean syncing so all the bosses are fought at the same time, or syncing so that they all complete the game close to the same time?
Kuwaga wrote:
Keeping the rerecord count down. The run won't get finished at all if I want everything to be perfect.
On the other hand, if you don't spend enough time redoing certain areas they may leave alot to be desired in terms of speed. Take your time.

I'm not a fan of "Why try if I might fail?" thinking. I say you should have a go, face the problem and formulate a solution.

Thats probably a tough question for a run like this. If you gain more frames in Sonic 1 than you lose in the other games using the new route compared to the old route, I would suggest you use the new route. Experiment. :) All depends on what goal you pick: 1) Complete all games together as fast as possible (longest one finishes quick, shorter ones could be faster, times are generally unbalanced.) 2) Complete all games individually as fast as possible with the same input (they all finish as fast as possible, finishing times are mostly balanced.) I get the feeling what I just said makes no sense at all. Hopefully someone can comprehend some of it.

I think a much better concept for a run would be one that (by editing 3 frames during the menu) completes S3&K as Sonic alone, Tails alone, and Knuckles alone.
I would like to see such a run being made. I hope you're working on it in secret to wow us all.

I'm not interested in completing the run if nobody wants to see it.
If you think you will be able to persevere through problems through Labarynth Zone and Lava Reef Act 2 boss as well as keep the quality from the first WIP you've shown, I really think you should give this a shot. At the very least, you can say you have "master input" for beating 4 different Sonic games, which would definately attract all the ladies/slobbering Sonic fanboys. I still think you might have to do some level wrapping and at the very least screen scrolling.

While I'm waiting for updates, I decided to have a little bit of fun in the training rooms of this game. Particularly, the Beau room. Not optimized or made to be fast at all, but someone might find it interesting anyway. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3644/Dynamite%20Headdy%20TARGET%21.gmv Edit: Also I don't know whether you noticed, but your run seems to use input for player two, too. Not that its important or anything. Maybe your key bindings are set for both p1 and p2? :)

.... I don't want to slow down one game just to finish them at the same time.
I also don't want to use any of Nitsuja's glitches to go past the left boundary of a level to scroll super fast through them. Maybe that's what you meant by getting fast enough to leave the camera. I think it would look cheap, I want to keep them in sync as much as possible.
That sounds slightly contradictory. Besides, if one is busy scrolling to the right you only have 3 other games to contend with while the other one is busy :) Or at least if one game is slower than the rest to give it a chance to catch up.

I found this run very... interesting to say the least. The two princesses in -1 made me laugh. All in all just a completely bizarre way of "finishing" the game. Bizarre but very fun to watch. Very nicely done.

Desynced at the first door in Jabu Jabu. Try playing it all the way from the beginning, I'm pretty sure it will desync.

Also, the scarecrow song, I want something good/imaginative/different.
List of what I think would be coolest:

  • Zelda Overworld Theme
  • Mario Theme
  • Mario dead jingle
None are particulary imaginative/different, but...
