I noticed you paused slightly after you climb up that place just after exiting the cave with the Lens of Truth. Any particular reason you did this? Also after you go back to the area with tingle in it, you walk forward and hop off onto the frozen lake, then Z target and continue. if you Z targeted, backflipped off the bridge then continued would it be faster? Apart from that I'm feeling its a great job so far.

This seems the only explanation for desyncing and savestate issues inside Clock Town; particularly in West Clock Town. I definately don't desync anymore, saw your new and very nice bomb jumps and quicker jump over the ice, and the route up further into the mountains. Very nice.

http://files.filefront.com/lozmm_tas_wip301206_mukkiavi/;6450751;;/fileinfo.html I've encoded an AVI right after Link hits the owl statue with his sword. Umm... Ignore the white/black squary stuff at the start, that was an accident :P

Despite my feeling towards this hack, I found a few things to be funny: Labarinth Zone 3 - The 'splash from above' Star Light Zone 3 - The 'death from above' Scrap Brain Zone 2 - The tile screw up And of course, the score at the end. Also, maybe its just me, but where'd the ending go? :(

Great news Mukki! It doesn't Desync! you get out into Termina Field, do the bomb slides and get past the ice and into the mountainy area all perfectly! Excellent job so far :)

What I do like:
  • From the start I thought "wtf?" though I'm not sure thats a good thing.
  • What happens at frame 2800.
What I don't like:
  • The concept of this hack. its basically just a hack of a good game to turn it into a bad game which is already painful to watch. My opinions are mixed on such a scenario.
  • I only really want to see this game in all its crummy glory; on the GBA.
Poor Sonic..

I would conclude your ini file is corrupt. Redownload it and all will be fine. I hope. Don't worry about the top icon. Its a cfg file where MSOffice meddled with my file associations.

Are those altogether? Is the size the same?

WELL. Tried multiple combinations of settings, even got Comicalflop to have a go, we both desynced right after hitting the statue, you walk backwards, do a backflip over the hedge walk right up to the door, but don't enter. Comical managed to get inside the bomb shop using a save state, whereas I managed to get into the bomb shop via using the glN64 plugin, but neither of us managed to leave. For me, you roll right up to the door but don't get far enough to exit. :( Whats interesting is that the D3D8 plugin actually manages to stay in sync a large amount of the first cycle, though it desyncs after you return to the clock tower to go East Clock town (deku link falls down the side) Just to double check, you can get to hyrule field with the WIP you uploaded right? 800x600 windowed resolution, none of the advanced settings checked etc.. Just that both me and Comical desynced at the exact same place and that seems a bit odd to me..

I can put up the .m64 if anyone wants it, but I chose not to, I can no longer kid myself that anyone can run it. It looks like i'll have to encode this myself at the end of the day...sigh...
The previous WIP worked great up to depositing your rupees, but it desynced when you were about to go to hyrule field (though it was probably because I changed the resolution slightly earlier). If you upload it, I will definately give it a shot and see if it works. I would be suprised if it didn't. The only problem I do have is that I can't fast forward with Mupen :(

Watched this WIP, you flail about after you deliver the rupees at the end then stand there. I'm hoping that was your intention. Just wondering, why do you not use the reverse Song of Time to slow down time? would it not allow more things to be accomplished in one day?

I enjoyed the previous run, and I enjoyed watching how you've improved it even more. Nice work!

Oh if only Knuckles was availible in Sonic 1 through the lock-on thing... But now I don't have to dream. This is a great run. I particularly liked the gliding high over Green hill zone 2 and Marble zone 3, and the cool slide along the floor bug in the Labyrinth that allowed you to zip through walls. Nice work!

I have to agree with Angerfist about the game's repetitiveness, but I like how you have done something different on all the different days to attempt to eliminate that as much as possible. I particularly liked how much you abused the collision detection :)

I understand your point of view JXQ, but what would you suggest instead? a wider variety of moves even if time/score is sacrificed, or just not bothering with games that might not be the perfect candidate for a TAS? Or something else?

I'm not sure if this was the best choice of game to do a TAS of or not, but one thing I can say is that I enjoyed watching it. The break the platform and other minigame-like levels were very interesting to watch, and take a look at that high score! Nice work.

I previously watched the WIPs so I had already seen most of it. I love the routes of the emeralds that are obviously incredibly optimized as well as the unique ways of defeating the bosses without the extra jump height sonic has. Favourite part? Lava Reef 1 boss. Those tentacle guys go down so fast! As for the hand, that made me laugh. Would-be yes vote.

I like this. The zipping through walls causing crazy bugs is just great. Would-be yes. Definately.

Is it not possible for you to use the Ice Cap glitch that he uses?
the Ice Cap glitch requires tails to break the block with sonic standing on it. Seeing how theres no tails in a knuckles run, I don't see how it could be possible in its current form.
What is the waiting at the start of Lava Reef 2 for?
As previously mentioned, the level requires time to load so the scrolling can be done all the way to the end.
If the ring box before entering the pyramid doesn't carry over, then why pick it up or waste time trying to find it?
Because the timer of the big block thing that moves up and down at the enterance is still running, yet the ingame timer is not. by making knuckles hit the ring box, it delays him slightly, so hes able to start the level right away rather than wait for the object to move down again.

  • you can jump into and out of lava or fire without taking damage

Is it just me or does it seems Sonic now has control in the Matrix? I tried the game. The physics and music made me cry. The only thing I do love about this game is that 1 in-game second seems an eternity. Wait, no I don't.

Looking great, one minor thing I noticed that was in a previous version of your run but missing now is after the Carnival Night 1 boss, you used to just stand still so that Knuckles does the old 'Jiggle his fists' animation, then he seamlessly moves into his finished stage pose. In the current run you twitch slightly so it doesn't get that far, which disappointed me slightly. Not that its insanely important anyway...

Things I noticed that are different speed wise are the bob-omb battlefield run to the moving platforms and the glitches such as the BLJ and MIPS. Oh and the final Bowser course, the moving platform bit was done differently. I liked the old run. I like this run. Very nicely done. Would-be Yes vote.

I have to say that this is so much better than the previous route. While the last one was interesting to watch, I'm not a fan of death in the sonic games.. Glitching through the beam wall and screwing up the boss is great, keep up the good work!
