Ah the infamous UAC. A step in the right direction, yet so miserably broken in practice. All it does is cause pains, problems and annoyance. Programs just don't ask for administrator rights when they should, making UAC rather useless. I always disable it, since it gets in the way of using the computer.
7's version is alot better than Vista's purely because the user's direct control over items is no longer interrupted. For example, If you want to change permissions on a folder in C:\Program Files, right clicking on it, properties, security, etc. no longer pops up asking if you want to do it. Same goes for renaming and creating. Changing permissions, creating and modifying usually does require allowing though. I remember in Vista when you had a popup to make a folder in Program Files, a popup when renaming the folder, and another popup when you either moved something into it or changed permissions. Ugh.

That would require either two seperate encodes, increasing the publisher's work, or alot of upstream bandwidth, which isn't always available. Still, I might consider it.

You guys are aware the pro version holds a (totally transparent) XP emulator right ?
Actually it's a 100% licensed copy of Windows XP SP3 running in a virtual machine. It has to be downloaded though because it's not installed initially. Once installed, installing programs in the XP VM will make them appear a special category in 7's start menu. Running the program will make it appear like any other program, just with the XP skin (if enabled in the VM) or the classic look (if not). Only dislike is that programs are limited to 16-bit colour. Also, virtualization is required on your CPU. I'll take a pic later.

Just to see how bad the interface is, try to reach the Network Connections via the menus... it's impossible. The only way is through ncpa.cpl.
Start --> Type "network connections". then make a link of it in future if you're that fussed about getting there quickly. This can be done with alot of control panel stuff. Or alternatively try zidanax's route. Just because you can't find something doesn't make it impossible.

Seriously guys, can you stop this discussion now? Rather than bring religious stuff to Bisqwit's doorstep, why not just make a topic elsewhere? The point of this thread has kind of been ruined. And with that said... Dear Bisqwit, Now that the website is mostly(all?) handed over, how are things going for you? Are your plans/goals coming to fruitation or are things not going how you would have hoped?

Yah that word list was hacked from the rom pretty much as soon as it came out. http://rush68.net/u/files/scribfull.txt
I've split the full list into seperate files, of varying word lengths. This might be useful for people trying to do things with the shortest words possible. Neighbouring duplicates have been removed, but any from the original list missing letters have not been corrected.. 3 Or Less Letters 4 Letters 5 Letters 6 Letters 7 Letters 8 Or More Letters

1) I can't seem to get the game running in any Desmume build. 2) Are you going to try and go for fastest time or most entertaining solutions? I can imagine both being distressing with either "I don't know if any multitude of different combination of words will be faster" or "Could this be solved in a funnier fashion?" 3) No harm in making a test run.
1) http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=212682#212682 2) I think with the size/variety of the game, entertainment would be an important factor. As such I think speed should be a secondary goal - that is to say that the run should be fast, but not using the same items over and over if a more interesting solution can be used that is slightly slower. Of course, for "provide items these people might like" puzzles I think I'll go for 3-letter words only (if possible). 3) I'm going to test a few levels in the next couple of weeks and try and come up with something awesome.

So what's preventing this game from being TASed? Lack of interest or lack of ideas/glitches/bugs?

I think it's important to suggest that you don't need to TAS here to contribute. Encoding, Coaching, even voting on submissions is helping out.

Likewise, do we have a better bomb-hover segment we could include? The one shown is a bit hard to decipher -- both as to what's going on and as to what it accomplishes. Maybe use one of the ones MrGrunz has published on his YouTube channel? They aren't in any official movies yet, but they will be...eventually.
I would have preferred to see a super slide, since it's a pretty "wtf" glitch that still looks fast and useful. Other than that, looking good. Will be showing it to some friends :)

any specific reason those games are on that list?
Tools in emulators have improved significantly since 2004. Also for NES games, Famtasia is a deprecated emulator (which the old runs use), so we'd like to obsolete them to keep runs unified onto the best emulators.

Has anyone noticed that God can kill Cthulu and the Kraken, but he can't kill a ghost? Also, Vampire beats Werewolf, and Death beats many many things. Things to try: Gluing a lazer to a sharks nose/forehead (frickin lazer beams!), Bear vs Polar bear, "Rickroll", "Longcat", "Tacgnol", "Nuke", Ninja vs Pirate vs Cowboy, holding garlic/cross when near a vampire, killing death, picking up his scythe and using it to kill other things etc.

Blah, I can't get it to work :( Tried desmume (nothing)
In the emulation options, turn on that 8MB debugger thing and use the non-dev version of the latest desmume-rr. Also make sure the save is the 64k eeprom BEFORE you start the game for the first time.

Because noones made one yet :) I would greatly appreciate it if you could do so though as you are the best candidate for doing so in relation to OoT.

According to Microsoft itself, 96% of netbooks in the US ship with Windows XP. Yes, I can see how that can be a real source of worry for Microsoft.
96% sounds a bit high (there's alot of eeePCs shipped with Linux), and even then, this is only in the present. It's entirely possible that they're worried that Linux netbooks are going to take market share. Also, how come you trust this statistic but not their "Windows is better than Linux" presentation?

Welcome to The Newbie Corner. These are the tentative rules for posting and helping. More rules/guidelines will likely be added in the future. Rules and guidelines for newcomers:
  1. Recommended reading: Some commonly asked questions by newcomers on the site have been written up by some of our members. This available on the Newcomers Anticipated Questions page.
  2. Search the forum before posting. It's possible your question has already been asked before.
  3. Start simple. Practice on simple games with simple mechanics and simple goals. Super Mario Bros. is an example of simplicity on the surface, with a deep creamy filling of glitches that can be exploited.
  4. Challenge yourself, not publications. Start by setting yourself a target time, and try to beat it. Keep lowering the time, and you might soon discover new ways to improve a published TAS!
  5. Experiment. Most games weren't designed with frame-by-frame rapid fire, ultra-precise button timing and left+right/up+down button holding in mind. Try different combinations of things the game might not expect and see how it reacts! See CommonTricks for more information.
  6. If you're unsure, ask. This section is for helping, so if you are having problems with something, let us know!
    • When asking, use a descriptive subject title. "Help me!" or "A newbie with a question" aren't very informative, and makes searching the forum harder for people who have the same question. Please include your question in some form in the subject. For example: "[FCEUX] How do I use frame advance effectively?"
Rules for Veterans:
  1. Be helpful. The main goal of this section is to encourage TASing by helping those that require assistance. If you have no intention of providing a helpful response, do not post here.
  2. Be nice. Similar to above, providing a cold response to a question will likely result in reluctance to ask another.
  3. Links to the wiki should only be used as a reference to your own answer. Please don't just leave a link without explanation; try to put what the wiki page says in your own words, then if people wish to learn more they can look at the page.
Rules for both:
  1. Any game can have a topic regardless of one in another forum. The primary goal is to have a place for new people's TASes in a place that doesn't intrude on the official topics.

Their arguments are vague for a reason: They are biased towards their own software. NPoV doesn't sell products. While I disagree with the updating and no help available aspects, the other parts hold SOME truth. Since when are omg-Linux-is-teh-uber people allowed to administrate? :P

It's either a bug with libavcodec's vorbis decoder or the encoder I used. I'll be replacing this and excitebike's audio shortly, but until then I suggest using VLC or something.

The .mkv encoded for the publication includes the author's subtitles from the movie file. These are likely to be enabled by default depending on your media player, but can be disabled if desired. Enjoy :)
