have you tried it with a capture smaller than 2gb? what emulator are you using that's produced a file bigger than 2gb?

1. How big (filesize) was the initial capture? 2. What version of mplayer are you using?

How about if you just start from the end of this TAS? i.e make a new tas that uses the end save of this one and plays through again. Sort of like a "New Game+" run.

I like to update my programs like mplayer from SVN often, and every single time I need to become root. You have some good points though.
Have you tried omitting 'make install' and just copying it to your own user folder?

Can someone remind me why we favour small filesize over compatibility these days? I thought the point of the movie files was to allow as many people to watch the movies as possible.
But it is. All people have to do is download a proper player. Not making use of the latest and greatest is a crime :D
Name 3 players that people can use that are easy to install all 3 major OS'es (Win,Lin,Mac). So far I've seen people having problems with both mplayer and VLC, and all of these optimisations are killing uploading to Viddler and that other one I forget what it's called.

Please remember that this is the discussion thread for OoT. It would be appreciated if you keep to this only and not de-rail the thread with discussion of other submissions/miscellanea.

Then sorry, I'm fresh out of ideas. If you find out the source of your problem then please post the solution here as I would be most interested to see what it is.

It works like this; If Sonic is on an active object (like one of those non-tile sprites like moving platforms and stuff) when it is destroyed or replaced by a normal non-active object, the game gets a bit confused and thinks he's still under one. This causes strange things to happen, but fixes when he touches another sprite based object (e.g. the zippers in FB or a floating platform). Jumping won't break the base effect, but will temporarily reset the value it thinks the floor is at to where the next floor is. In FB2, this can be acheived by staying on the FB1 boss' platform for the final blow, but without being hit. I think theres like 1px room for this to work. After that, the rest of the mechanics of the zipping I am unsure about :)

Heres how things currently seem to work: 1. New people come here, think "wow this is cool, I'm going to submit a movie" OR 1. New people come here, think "wow this is cool, I'm going to ask how to do stuff" 2. New player submits a movie, gets ripped by the community for a sub-par movie and has it rejected. OR 2. New member asks some questions in either General or a random board which they feel the question would fit (i.e an emulator specific forum). 3. Player/member gets frustrated with lack of help/positive feedback/encouraging remarks and leaves. This is, how I see it, NOT how many people here want it to be. For a start, it puts off new people, clutters the submission queue and also clutters other forum sections also. As I understand it, we can always do with new TASers :) As such, I propose a beginner's section on the forum. There, new members can post their beginner runs, ask questions about how to do things and help each other out. There could be a sticky with the most important resources and guides. The most frequently asked questions with answers could also be stickied. In short, a beginners section should be created allow for education, creation and self-improvement when making TASes. I would be interested to hear what other community members think of this.

GenericTips and the FAQ might also be worth looking at. I disagree with the plugins suggested. Please read http://www.bluetoaster.net/tasvideos/plugins.html (though it's slightly outdated)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/205087 Any of those missing from your pc that exist on your virtual machine? (note: I'm not sure if all of them will be in system32... and if they don't exist on your virtual machine, they aren't needed anymore)

perhaps it's excessive use of b-frames? or decimate? or b-pyramid? or reference frames? those are the things that could do with checking.

do the following files exist in your system32 folder?: avifil32.dll - ~83kb avifile.dll - ~107kb vfwwdm32.dll - ~53kb if not, try finding them online (or take them from your virtual machine) and putting them there.

Viddler has a bug report forum. Perhaps our problems with it should be posted there? On my eeepc I get around 1fps.

1. What Version of Windows/What Operating System? 2. Do the other emulators on this site have the same problem? 3. Do other versions of snes9x have the same problem?

I seriously wonder why the need for this many video segments...
AVI files larger than 2GB have issues, so splitting them at recording and reassembling during encoding works around this.
...and unfortunately the only way around this is to ditch VFW and use something else that supports OpenDML, though I think using VFW for AVI capture is (was?) a rule/guideline for rerecording emulators here.

This is awesome, I wonder if the tech nintendo patented (and will be using in New Super Mario Bros Wii) will be as competent as this.
I was under the impression that for each level a human-recorded input set is used and is played back after the game puts the player/enemies/level layout identical to how it is in the recording. I guess it'll depend on the game..

Turn off Aero and try recording again. Not a bug with Vista.

I think the point people are trying to make is that there are runs with higher amounts of yes votes or yes percentages that have been rejected. Personally I think this is a judging policy that needs a radical change but me going into detail on that should be reserved for another thread :) I personally support adelikat's decision fully to push this run onto the site for publication in the hope to boost interest in DS TASing. If you think he's somehow being egotistical and trying to get some sort of massive credit gain, you clearly don't know him. If you feel this run is unoptimized or lacking then don't just whine about it, obsolete it. Hell, I'll bet if you ask adelikat to help you obsolete this run he'll support you as much as he can. So long as, you know. You haven't been a dick about the publication.

H:\ Episodes: 243GB Movies: 85.8GB C:\ Episodes: 18.2GB avidump: 3.11GB S:\ TV: 337GB Movies: 13.1GB Total: 700.21GB H and C are my stuff, where S: is a house repository of various stuff. avidump is the finished avis that I have created for this site. It is extremely rare for me to download AVIs/MKVs from this site since I love the quality that emu, rom and movie file provides.

I'm extremely disappointed this was rejected. This is quite possibly 100% optimal, and should be there for those looking for it, especially since it's the pinnacle of non-violent gaming. That's all I have to say.
