Any plans on doing a story book atlas video (perhaps Deja Vu) in the near future? I personally think it would look cool.

How come no one has ever done a TAS of the classic snake game:
I did a proof-of-concept-WIP for Super NeSnake 2. I wrote a bot that brute forced manipulated the game to make the fruit appear right next to me all the time, thus aiming for fastest possible time. I this this more entertainment oriented approach is better.

Huh, this means that those Circus Charlie runs that were submitted some time ago (here, here and here) were actually submitted by the same user (and the second submission came just one day after the first one). What a strange thing to do.

Nope, though Shadowrun is one of my favourite games! :)

I'm starting to feel like a pain here (sorry), but it's neither of them either. I seem to remember that the game was a lot darker, and that you controlled one character in the same way as in the Diablo games, and that you killed monsters (or aliens, something like that) with firearms.
Was it turn-based or real-time? (IIRC the X-Com games are turn-based.)
It was real time.

There's a game I've been looking for lately, one that I played a lot when I was younger. I think the game came out a little after the first Diablo game, and was a game very similar to Diablo (the same kind of overview, and similar interface), but it was sci-fi oriented, with firearms instead of medieval weapons. You would walk around, shooting aliens, picking up better weapons, and going further into the game. Does this say anything to anyone?
perhaps Syndicate? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QxYku4VVZk
It's pretty close, but it's not that game either.

Then again, 1 input on multiple emulators is impossible because all movie files are structured differently.
True, though you could make a lua script that performs the input on both consoles (you would only need to change the frame advance line in the lua code).

Crusader?
It looks similar, but it's not that game. The game I'm thinking about was darker, and you fought monsters (or aliens, I can't remember which) rather than humans and robots.

Perhaps a NES+GB game could work, since they have identical controller buttons.

Hmm, I've never had any trouble with recording input for more than one player, as long as the emulator recognizes the input... You mean that you can move around with player 2, but the input from controller 2 just isn't recorded into the movie file?

Here's a picture I made of the problem: Below are 5 (non-linear) equations for the five unkowns. Equations 1-4 come from that we know the length of the sides, equation 5 relates the area of the square to the area of the quadrilateral plus the 4 right triangles. The formula for the quadrilateral area can be found on the wikipedia article on this topic. I don't know if this system can be solved analytically...

Hello and welcome! One easy way to check if the movie file contains any input for player 2 is to load up the ROM, check "Config->Display->Input Display->2 Player", and play the movie, looking at the two gamepads to see what input lights up as you play the movie. If the icon for the second gamepad stays dark through the whole movie, it means that the movie file does not contain any input for player 2. Concerning imagehost, Photobucket has worked for me for the last few years.

Besides that non of its angles are right, are there any other specific information about the quadrilateral? For example, is it known to be non-self-intersecting? Also, this is something I'm not sure about: If no other information is known about the quadrilateral than the length of the sides and that none of its angles are right, is it uniquely defined?

Mad World, by Gary Jules. I just had a big meal before recording this, so it didn't go as well as I had hoped, but it went ok. A small mistake at the end, and some minor mess ups, but nothing big. I hope you like it. Oh, and sorry about the camera angle. Link to video

Here is a short Galaga movie I made that was entirely recorded by a bot. It used savestates and a whole lot of trial and error. Space shooters like this, and in particular the more simple ones like Space Invaders, can probably be TASed quite well using only a bot. As Bisqwit said, having the bot use savestates makes things a whole lot easier, if the game is somewhat complex it would be quite a challenge to make a sophisticated bot that doesn't. Gameshow games can also easlily be TASed by bots (without using savestates) by looking into the game's memory what the answer is (I made a Jeopardy TAS like this some time ago), but admittedly they are of course very dull to watch. This topic also reminded me of the "Infinite Mario AI" youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlkMs4ZHHr8

This is kinda vague, but it sounds a little like Take No Prisoners, or at least one of the many Alien Breed games. Do you remember anything else about the game?
Hmm, after looking at some pictures, it's neither Take no Prisoners nor an Alien Breed game... The game was in 2D, with not so good graphics (the game is very old). The graphics were quite close to those of the first Diablo game. The game was pretty dark. I seem to remember that you were in some sort of building, killing aliens or at least some kind of monsters. You had some kind of base or so outside the building, where you could stock up on new stuff, and get healed and such.

Aah yes, I marvel at how many hours I've spent in front of FCEU. I don't have much time nowadays, but there have been times when I TASed ~40 hours per week. It's quite amazing that I still TAS interesting after all this time!

Hey, if it weren't for that smiley, that would have hurt my feelings a little. :P To get back to the subject, I personally don't care much one way or the other about an additional rank.. "Expert player" rank is quite enough for me, and I don't really see the need for a higher level. Although "TASing machine" does have a nice ring to it. Hmm...

It appears that item drops is affected both by the the location of sprites (both your own sprite, the enemies, any platforms, etc.), as well as input. RAM address 000F seems to reflect this "input randomness". In practice, this means that you can most likely manipulate any item drop you want without losing any time (for example by tapping up at the right frames). I could probably make a lua script that brute forces tests input until it gets the desired drop. If there is a specific situation where you want me to try this out, feel free to upload your movie file and point me to the place where you'd like a certain enemy drop, and I can give my theories a try. :)

Allrighty, let me know if you want me to help out with manipulating luck somewhere, I wouldn''t mind. I can try and find out some general stuff about randomness, such as what actions affect it, if that would help.
