I'm currently avoiding doing the dishes, so I watched your WIP right now. :) It looks very good, but I have a few questions (please note that I haven't played this game, so I'm sorry if some of these questions sound stupid or so): 1. At least two times, on frames 1244 and 8605, you strike with your weapon for no obvious reason. Is this to manipulate luck to avoid getting an enemy to spaws or something like that? 2. On frame 2626 you seemingly turn into that chainsaw-man for a few frames, what happened there? 3. On frame 4134 you seem to disappear for a few frames, what was that all about? Yep, those were all the things I were wondering about. So keep up the good job, it looks like you are on your way to improve Walker's run quite a lot.

Wow, you completed this faster than I expected. :O
Yeah, I worked all day on this run before I was was able to submit it, but yeah, it went faster than I thought too.

Oh, allright, I didn't know that, thanks for the info. :)

Also, I wonder whether this movie would be improvable/more entertaining by doing it in 2-Player Mode or if that would just cause more lag to the point of being slower.
Hmm, I don't know. I don't think it would be much faster, if any faster at all... As I said, and as you've probably seen, this game lags a lot, so there will most likely be a lot of time lost because of this... In any case, I won't be doing any 2P-run, so if someone feels up for it, be my guest. I would be very interested in seeing how that run would look, it would probably be very interesting.

I just watched your WIP, erokky, and I'm very impressed. You seem to have found quite a few timesavers. This run is looking really promising. I'm just curious, have you compared how much time you have saved over flagitious' run? Or perhaps an estimation?

Thanks for filling that out, I actually didn't know.

I'm really sorry about the text. I'm fixing it right now... EDIT: Allright, it seems to work now... Again, I'm sorry about how comments looked. I don't know what happened, I did as I always have done, and it hasn't been a problem before... Well, at least it works now.

Allright, I just watched this, and I'm voting Yes. Although I do think that this run should be published separetly from Pom's run, because they beat the game in so different ways (pretty much like there are different movies for Castlevania 3). As for the movie itself, I was very entertained, I've never seen the minus-world before (I've only heard about it once or twice) , so that made this run even more entertaining. As all of your runs, this one also looked extremely well played. Good job. :)

So you TAS with a gamepad too, JXQ? I have an almost identical gamepad myself when I TAS. Do you have any hotkeys assigned to any buttons? I have assigned pause game to "R1", save state to "R2", frame advance to "L1" and load state to "L2". So you can imagine me buttonmashing those L and R buttons when I speedrun. :) other than that, I have the normal buttons assigned to the rest. I think it's really comfortable to TAS with a gamepad, and I can't think about doing it without it, but that's probably just me. :P Oh, and I'm sorry about your loss, but hopefully you can TAS as well with a PS-controller. Good luck!

Thanks! :) I've been working quite a lot on this run these past few days, and as a teaser, let me say that I'm currently 33.5 seconds ahead of lithven's run, and I'm about halfway through the game (I just finished the cave-level). I'm guessing that the run could be done withing two weeks or so.

To watch a .vbm-file, you need the game's ROM. Making ROM-requests is against the forum rules, so how you get your hands on the ROM is up to you. You could try dumping it yourself using a ROM reading device, not that I know how to get one of those...

what version of FCEU are you using? I tried the game some time back and it kept crashing and corrupting my savestates.
I'm using 0.98.16. And yes, the game does crash a whole lot, making it very tedious to record a movie... In general, it crashes every 20 seconds or so, but if you stop movie-recording, and replay your movie, and then load the savestate again, it usually works. Sometimes it crashes at the exact same frame no matter how many times you try to replay the movie. In that case, you have to replay the movie, then save a savestate a few frames before the game crashes, and continue recording from there. To put things short, yes this game is a real pain to record, but on the other hand, it's a funny game. :) Though I can't say that any of my savestates have been corrupted so that they won't load or anything.

I'm working on the game "Guerilla war" right now, so you can bold that one, adelikat. :) I won't post WIP:s of the run, but I'm sure it will be at least 30 seconds, likely one minute, faster than lithven's run, thanks to some tactical changes, and of course, better tools.

Yes vote here too. You did a great job on this movie, and the wobbling that first annoyed a little in the WIP I watched, got more entertaining and fun to watch when I learned that it was an intentional macro-pattern. Boss-fights where amazingly fast, and overall, I was very entertained. Thumbs up! :)

Hehe, this was a surprise. :) Very good job indeed, and nice improvements here and there. Let me be the first to throw in a Yes on this. Really good stuff. And the music in this game is really good too! :D

Thanks for the Yes-vote, FODA! :) At first I didn't think this would make a good TAS either, but by looking back on this, I think it's quite entertaining, I just hope you viewers agree. :P And I also agree that the music is really... Well, mostly bad. Some songs are okay, but mostly it just sounds too awful...

1) Nope, she's not into videogames. 2) Nope, although she knows that I do spend sometimes too much time with videogame, and she won't be interested in knowing what a TAS is, so I think she will settle with that I say that I play videogames. Besides, doing TAS:es actually is playing videogames, just in a different way... or something. 3) I showed her a part of JXQ's SMW-run once, and she wasn't that interested, at first she thought it was me playing, but then I showed her that I didn't touch anything. She got surprised. :) 4) Pretty much so, yes.

I'm reviving this topic to let you know that I'm working on improving this. :) So far I've done the first five levels, that's about half-way through the game, and I'm 27 seconds ahead of the published run. Download the WIP here. Please give feedback or just watch the movie for fun. In any case, I thought I would let you know that I'm working on this, so you don't go thinking I've disappeared from this forums or anything. ;)

Allright, I watched your run just now, and I have some feedback and questions about it... Question 1: What are your goals with this run? I'm guessing "fastest completion", but do you have any more sub-goals? Question 2: I'm not very familiar with gradius, but around 4500, a blue powerup spawns. What does this powerup do, and why didn't you take it? Question 3: Do you know how much faster than Morimoto's movie this movie is at this point? I know it's a pain to compare an .fcm to an .fmv, but could you give me a hint perhaps? And here is my overall feedback... In my personal opinion, I think you did those tiny loops (wobbling-loops) way too much. At first it was quite cool and I thought "Nice, that's really fast", but after a while it got more and more irritating seeing you do those loops over and over. I found it similiar to "wobbling" on platform games: in the right proportions it can be fun to watch, but in this case I think you did it too much. Second, I think that the first "boss fight" (the one with the lava bursting out) could look better, unless you were manipulating luck or anything to get it done faster. While Morimoto flies around mostly all over the screen during that boss fight, you mostly (not all the time, but in total) stick to one place, doing your small little loops. :P And last, I know it's probably not your goal in this movie, but I know that it's indeed possible to kill every enemy in the first stage. Aiming for a 100% kills run as well as fastest completion would at least in my eyes look more entertaining, but maybe that's just my opinion. And if you're not aiming for 100% kills, at least I would like it more if you flew closer to enemies than you have done so far. I'm not saying that you haven't done that in this movie, but I would like to see some more intense "one pixel from getting hurt" action. :) I'm sorry if I sound winy (I hope I spelled that right now), it's not my intention. :) I always find Gradius movies (and all your runs too, for that matter) entertaining to watch, and I hope that you found my feedback constructive, because that is my intention. Anyway, I hope this feedback helped you at least some, and good luck on the rest of this, I'll try to follow this up closely.

Haha, we'll see ;) But seriously, I've too much to do in school and home-stuff lately, so I've simply have had not much time for TAS more than watching one, once in a while. But TAS is still a big interest of mine, and once school is getting lighter on me, perhaps I just might submit a movie. Actually, I am working (really slowly though) on improving a published NES-run, and the improvement will be about 20-30 secondsperhaps I could post a WIP once I have one long- enough). But, as I said, I don't have as much time as I used to. I guess I'm getting off topic now. But just so you know that I haven't disappeared from this forum or anything. :)

I don't know if this is what you mean, but have you checked these out? These movies are all in avi-format, and they also have links to other Doom-speedrunning sites. You probably knew about these SDA-runs already, but I thought I would tell you just in case. ;)

So... how are things going with this run? I know you're probably busy with the 3,4,5,6-run right now, but I hope you haven't forgotten about this run for that matteOnly the Wily-levels left now! :)

Good job you two, although it is a small improvement, this movie was already presumed perfect. So thumbs up, and a yes on this from me :) Entertaining and well made.
