I have watched the avi now, and I'm voting Yes on this too. As Omega said though, not that it matters much anymore, but I still think this deserved yet another Yes vote! :) Amazingly done Spezzafer, this movie is really star-material in my opinion. Big thanks to DeHacked for making the avi so I could finally watch this.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit has actually been done: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2890 But Dick Tracy hasn't been done as far as I know, and that would be cool to see!

I might as well post a picture of me here too. It's not the best picture I have of me, but it's the only one that's on the web. It's pretty old, but anyway, you'll get a hunch of what I look like at least! I'm the guy with the glasses: http://jo.istheshit.net/images/zywamuca.jpg

Yeah! That worked great hanzou, thanks a lot! It looks pretty cool too. :) Here's the fcm (I think I'll start using DeHacked's microstorage from now on) http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/get/289/7-4_v2.fcm It's 35 frames faster than previous version, which makes it 114 frames faster than my submitted run. Enjoy!

This movie has gotten so much good feedback I can't wait to see it. Unfortunately I don't have the ROM and don't know where to find it, so I'll just have to wait for the avi. So can someone please, please, pretty please encode this to avi soon? :) I think it's quite obvious it's already accepted, as it has 29 YES votes as I'm writing this.

Hey man, that zip file is empty!
Sorry about that, it's just that on the site that I upload my files you can only upload certain filetypes, and .fcm files are not allowed... therefor I have to zip them before uploading them, and sometimes I tend to umm, forget putting the fcm in the zipfile :) And yeah, I see what you mean now. That speeded up things a bit. Although it was actaully 5 frames faster to pick up the middle top heart before you pick up the bottom right heart. Even though a skeleton blocks your way a little if you pick up the middle top heart last (you'll notice this in this movie) it doesn't waste much time. If I pick up the lower right heart last, one of the skeletons will block my way once I've reached the chest, thus slowing me down a few frames. I could prevent the skeleton to block my path by blocking him with an emerald block, but moving the emerald block into place wastes some time, and I won't reach the top middle heart as fast as possible in that case. Umm, anyway, I found it faster to pick up the top middle heart last, a whole 5 frames faster! :) Oh yeah, the fcm. Here it is (the fcm is in the zip file now, I'm sure of it :) ) http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload3/7-4.zip EDIT: I forgot to tell you, this is 79 frames faster than in the full run. Umm, enjoy!

Here's 7-4 done 12 frames faster: http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload3/7-4.zip As always, comments are very welcome! In your first post hanzou, you mention that this level could be improved. Was this what you meant, or did I miss something? EDIT: Here's 8-3 done 59 frames faster: http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload7/8-3.zip

Hmm, that just might work, CtrlAltDestroy. It should save quite some time if it does. Anyway, good luck with C-5! Whatever technique you find to be the fastest, frameperfect it and post it here, it would be nice if you calculate how many frames faster it is, this way I don't have to do it. :)

Let's see if we can get to the bottom of this! :) Do exactly like this and there should be no problem: 1. Download the zipfile that contains the .smv, here: http://tasvideos.org/submissions/880.zip 2. Unzip the zipfile so you get the file Super Demo World 120-exit by Fabian & JXQ.smv 3. Open up the ROM named Super Demo World - The Legend Continues (SMW1 hack).smc (its checksum should be A0DA) with nitsuja's improved SNES9X emulator, get the latest version here: http://www.wou.edu/~tmontg1/SNES%20Emulator/snes9xw-improvement7.zip Play the movie using the "Movie Play" function. If you keep getting error messages such as "File is wrong format", make sure that the movie file ends with .smv. If this doesn't work, I'm afraid I can't help you =/. Perhaps you could watch the avi instead, in that case.

mukka, I had problems with patching the SMW ROM with the patch and then replay the movie, but then I tried to replay the movie with the ROM named Super Demo World - The Legend Continues (SMW1 hack).smc, and it worked. If nothing else works, just watch the avi. I said pretty much the same thing in the other thread too, so this is kind of a double post :)

Since this is a hack, you can't replay the movie with the original ROM. There are two ways two replay the movie as far as I know: 1. Replay it using the ROM named Super Demo World - The Legend Continues (SMW1 hack).smc (this was how I watched it) 2. Patch your SMW1 Rom using the patch file found on Super Demo World's home page. Another way of watching this would of course be to watch the avi. :)

I've been playing around some more with 6-4, and I've got it 690 frames (11,5s) faster. Here: http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload9/6-4_v2.zip

Here's a small update: I have saved 86 frames on 7-3 by pushing the egg into the river one more square downstream. Not much else to comment on this level. And about 6-4. I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I have done that stage now isong only three emerald blocks, and letting Rocky block Don Medusas fire. The bad news is that this actually turned out slower than my previous version. This was more like a testrun to see how it could be done, but let me know if you find something on this stage that can be done better. Here are the fcm's for 7-4 and 6-4: http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload0/7-3_and_6-4.zip

I got 5-4 248 frames faster: http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload4/5-4.zip Comments are as usual very welcome. I think I'll leave 3-4 up to Bag then, there are many other levels I'd like to try out. I hope it turns out to be faster. And what is this "Rocky walks through Lolo" trick? You mention it on what can be improved on 6-4.

Maybe it's possible to go out and turn the leeper into an egg after you have picked up all the hearts, and after you have turned him into an egg you could perhaps time him to cover the statue. Although that would probably still be slower than my current strategy in my run. I hope you come up with something that's a bajillion times faster :)

Here's stage 4-3 done somewhat faster, more exactly 128 frames faster, thanks to hanzou's tips and some other changes I made: http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload7/new4-3.zip

Good luck with Castle 5, CtrlAltDestroy. I have improved 2-4 by 59 frames now, here: http://files.upl.silentwhisper.net/upload2/new2-4.zip I was hoping to grab all the three hearts in the lower left corner in a row, but I don't think it's possible, the Rocky intervened no matter when I timed my walk. If someone could make it though, it should save a lot of time. And school is taking up much more time than I had thought, so I probably won't be able to work very much on this for a couple of days. I have these two mathtests this weekend, and they're stealing time from TAS :(. So I pretty much leave this to you guys for a few days, I'll check back here now and then, to see how things are going. And I had missed that hanzou put up a list of possible improvements in his first post, until recently (that's why I improved 2-4 now). That should prove very useful, good thinking. Good luck with your improvements, everyone! :) EDIT: About 3-4... You are talking about exploiting rocky twice in your improvements-list, hanzou. I've played around with 3-4 a little while now, and I think that doing that is not possible, or at least very, very hard. You see, if you pass the center using the the rocky as a shield, he will immediately turn up and then turn right, after you have passed the statue. The only way to use him as a shield twice would be to on some way manipulate him to walk differently.

I've timed CtrlAltDestroy's improvement on 6-1, and it's 160 frames, so his other founding made the level an additional 40 frames faster. And you're right that we should get stuff more organized wit this, so I'll get a table with all improvements so far posted here later today. I'm gonna try out some more stuff too today, so expect a bigger post later on. Maybe I'll fiz a zip file with some fcm's too, like you talked about...

I know that this is tool-assisted game movies site!!
Allright, then I just misunderstood you. It was just that you used the word "speedrun" that's normally used for normal console speedruns. Sorry for the misunderstanding there. Guybrush wrote:
And my comp. didn't crash when I played it!
No, just playing the game normally didn't crash my computer either, it was when I started using savestates, and pressing buttons for just one frame using frame advance, that my computer crashed. Probably it was just a problem with my computer at the time, so I don't think it's anything to worry about. Guybrush wrote:
But there are things like going up to top floor just jumping while pressed on the wall!!
Hmm, it sounds like that could be quite heavily abused to save a lot of time... It should be useful in at least a couple of places.

Ah yes, probably. Now that you mention it, I don't remember ever being able to fire off a shot at him before he appears. Well, in that case, it's just another small thing that makes you go "huh, is that possible?" in this movie.

I've just watched your new WIP, Vatchern. It was REALLY great! Although I've seen some of your WIPs before, it's been a while since I last saw one. I especially liked how you totally owned all bosses =). That was art in my eyes... At least some kind of tool-assisted art. Just wanted to say that this looks really neat, keep this up Vatchern, looks like you'll be finished with this pretty soon. Just a question. You know the boss where there's this new music (you meet him first in Gemini man stage)? I can't for the life of me remember his name now :) Anyway, sometimes when you fight him you fire off a shot, before he appears, for no apparent reason. Can you explain why that is done? It doesn't seem to hit him, but maybe my eyes deceive me.

You DO know that this site does tool-assisted runs, do you? Perhaps I'm just missunderstanding you but since you wrote "speedrun" I wasn't sure that you knew this. You should read the FAQ if you don't know how we do the movies on the site. But to answer your question, a run of Strider should be really entertaining. I've actually tried one some time ago, just to test how it would be like, and the game crashed several times while I tried... and I was using a good ROM dump. It crashed when I jumped on specific frames. Maybe it was just my computer messing with me :) Anyway, if anyone decides to try a run, that would be great. Though there is already a Genesis run of this game on this site, anyone knows the differences between that and the NES version?

Surely you know this, but there is a speedrun (played on console) on Speed Demos Archive, here: http://speeddemosarchive.com/Castlequest.html I don't know if this is a good or bad run, since I haven't played the game much, but perhaps it can be of some help. If it makes a difference, I would enjoy seeing a TAS of this game! But since I won't be able to help much, let me just say good luck to whoever takes on this run! EDIT: hmm maybe I'm talking about the wrong game here, isn't Castlequest and Castle Quest two different games? Maybe I'm mixing them up. I hope we're talking about the same game here, otherwise, I'm quite ashamed :)

Argh, How many times are this movie going to get obsoleted? :) As Bisqwit said, this is naturally accepted, and I'm naturally voting Yes, since this version is faster and better than the previous versions in every aspect. I say this one more time, amazing job on this Baxter, and you too hanzou!
