Cpadolf said in His Super ZeroMission any% submission text that Super Metroid's runs are in such a level that to TAS it is more work and almost no play. He said later that it's possible to improve all Super Metoid's runs in these days. I'm just curious to know: Is there any faster route for 100% or any% run? Also, what is the biggest improvement known for these runs today? Iirc, Saturn used the double charged Plasma shot in GT and Ridley, shooting the first Charged Beam from a certain distance and then running (or falling) and shooting again closer to the boss, it seems this tricks save time in these bosses, but is there any other known way to improve the bosses fights in a 100% run? Edit: Btw, sometime ago Hero Of the Day was working in a RBO run, does anybody know if he is still working on it? That wip was already great and i'm sure the final result will be epic!

That's a very good improvement, given that the run is already very well optimized. Keep up the good work!

As technical quality increases, the amount of time that goes into a run increases exponentially, and often this has a paralysing effect on run progress. Far too many popular games suffer this affliction. Why spare viewers of amazing runs because a slightly better one could be made, but never will?

The run seems good to me, despite some minor improvements implemented by Kriole and Cpadolf in the beginning that you didn't incorporate to your run (probably because you were already far ahead), most of the run is different. The shinespark is really a crazy trick to cross the rooms. I think the Hacker did a good job in this game and i really enjoyed the rooms he created. I really liked the Crateria rooms from Super Metroid in ZM graphics, and Torian too. Though i think the Hacker put too much itens in the game, maybe it was better to left the same amount of the original SM. Anyway i really liked the run and found myself laughing with some crazy tricks you did, Very well done, Hoandjzj. Regarding your talent vs Cpadolf/Kriole: I don't think you are less talented than any of them. The thing here is just a matter of experience, imo. They've been playing/TASing Super Metroid for longer than you, as far as i'm concerned, so they can see somethings that you don't. But even you can see things they don't. Cpadolf started optimizing your any% run, but left some minor optimizations behind and kriole found it, but it doesn't make Kriole more talented than Cpadolf. Cpadolf finished the game but didn't see that Draygon trick you found later, and that doesn't make you more talented than Cpadolf. I think that the main reason that TASers post wips in the forum is exactly to see if someone find something they didn't see, cause we all see things in a different way. Edit: Yes vote!

Why do you say it's not optimized? Is there something you know it's possible and didn't do or is it because you found later that it could be faster for some reason?

despite the fact how incredibly awesome Haggar smells, feels, talks, walks and most importantly, kicks ass! :D
It seems you're in love with Haggar! xD Don't worry man, i'll keep your secret! ;) hehehe... But yeah, the most entertaining run would be the one played as Haggar imo.

Final Fight. Honestly, this hurts my tasing heart a lot that we still don't have a Final Fight tas... HAGGAR: "YEAAAAAH" You gotta choose Haggar for this.
Do you think it's faster to beat the game with Haggar or it would be more entertaining? Haggar is the character i most like to use playing this game, but maybe it would be faster using Cody as he can infinite combo a lot of enemies at the same time... though i don't remember if this trick is possible in Snes. If this game would be TASed, i think the best option would be the Arcade version as you can just jump to the end of the screen, kill all enemies (or most of them) and backward jump to the end of the stage. This way you can let enemies behind and save time. Playing with Haggar is possible to infinite combo too, but you can only hit one punch before turning back.

Hoandjzj is TASing 100%. Iirc there was left 30 itens for him to finish the run, but it seems he got stuck in a door he was expecting to be blue, but for some reason he didn't find yet, it is grey.

Interesting, but if Cpadolf manage to go through the laser area with 3 hits, it will be probably faster. Edit: After the Second wall, can you use the morphball trick to keep the echoes and jump higher enogh to hit the third wall? So you wouldn't have to go down to charge the shinespark only for that wall. Edit2: hum... watching the movie it seems to be too high to reach with a jump without speed... Edit3: Wait, that's what you said before? You can do it? Interesting...

Do you need the Spring Ball to do it Hoandjzj's way?
It seems not, cause when Hoandjzj enters that area he uses the spring ball to reach faster a safe place up in the second laser, but it's safe to fall too, so Cpadolf can fall and jump to the place Hoandjzj landed. So it seems...

Can you boostball in the red pirate right before Hoandjzj morph Samus to go through a small passage in a way that it makes Samus fly higher enough to break the next two walls? If she only breakes the first wall, you could use the morphball trick to keep the echoes, so you jump and break the other wall?[/img]

hahaha... i was having fun in that area Cpadolf jumped through the ceiling and it's possible even in realtime. If it was just the space for the morphed ball though it wouldn't be possible without X-ray, but as there is small space for you to bomb samus up, you can use that space to jump through the ceiling and reach the other side. Samus will then be crouched and you can bomb her up (realtime). Though it's hard to know if the enemy is or is not in the right position to freeze him, as it hides behind the door.

When i was watching the nicovideo any% run, iirc, i saw the same trick without using X-ray, so i thought why you picked it up in your run... i thought it could be due to differences of the hack, as if it was updated and you couldn't use the same trick. I don't know if this is the same trick, but if it is, we use this tricks in realtime to get the Spring Ball in Super Metroid without using Grapling beam, this way we can go to Crocomire's area later in the run and kill him with a single Plasma charged shot. Also we use it as a little time saver when going to the upper area of Wrecked Ship. You just have to freeze the enemy in a position that when you spinjump on him, Samus is a little bit inside the ceiling, so you just have to jump and she will go through it. Maybe it isn't the same trick...

Oh shit! Sorry, Hoandjzj, forgot to say that i use Snes9x 1.43 v17. If you want to give it a shot, here is the link to get the emulator. The savestate will work fine if you use this version.

Bingo!!! Yeah, the Big Metroid is too wild in NTSC and it makes very hard to skip him. Iirc skipping him saves around 10/3 seconds depending on how many jumps you'll need to reach the door, so it's interesting the idea to save in the first save when you enter Torian. This way you can have a cleaner Segment from LN to Torian and after that you can have a great Torian. Unfortunatelly you loose time adding another save, but you recover this time skipping the Big Metroid. The ideal would be skipping him like Behemoth did and save 10/3 seconds in the whole segment, but i know that this trick is too hard to pull off and a failure can ruin a great segment.

Iirc, lxx4xNx6xxl is going to use the same route as Behemoth (World record holder on SDA). Behemoth got 48min 100% run on PAL. Take a look at his page: http://www.youtube.com/user/giganotabehemoth87#p/c/2503980255897DB7 Anyway, he is going for early power bombs using the hero shot up in Brinstar shaft, so he can pick up the missile in kraid's area without backtracking there later and this way he can use some pb shortcuts. Go through Norfair to pick up speedbooster, wave beam and ice beam, go to Wrecked Ship, back through Crateria till Brinstar elevator next to the first Super Missile, some clean up there and head to Maridia. After maridia he goes to Lower Norfair. After killing Ridley he goes back and go to fight Crocomire and get the Grapple beam. After that he goes back through Brinstar, heading for blue brinstar area and up to Crateria again, so he goes for the pb up right to the ship and shinespark through the gauntlet, so he goes to Torian. Anyway, it will be better for you to take a look at Behemoth's page and watch his 48min 100% run, it's amazing.

I understand how you feel about Ceres, your time is good enough to keep going. The best we can go there is half or one second faster, but it's not worth to keep trying that whole segment which can be a pain in the ass just to save one second or even less. So you're going to stream in a week, right? i remember you posted a link on m2k2, but i lost it. Could you please post it again? Btw, I'm from Brazil.

Oh sorry about that. I didn't see the speedbooster in that link and thought you only posted the "Whust" one. I watched your Ceres segment and it was really nice, actually you know me from m2k2 but with another nick. hehehe... Are you practicing segment 2? any problems with it? Iirc youre going for 100, right?

Yeah, i thought it could be v15 or an older cause i used v15 and it played it well, but to play Kriole last two movies i had to use v17. Btw, here is the speedbooster.avi with the improvement kriole posted: http://www.4shared.com/video/raRPy39R/Speedbooster.html
