Why not have one player drop into the elevator right away, and then hit the bottom floor comms hub... the other does objectives one through three? In the second level, one player could speed right to the end, whilst the other cleans up along the way...
A Co-op run would certainly be very interesting.
I have good news.
You guys might remember me whining about my computer dying about 2 months ago. Well, I upgraded all the broken crap and repaired it recently (I got moneys now). In short, Goldeneye runs full speed on my computer now, and I am actually, looking forward to working on it again! I will try to have the first five levels done by when I go on vacation for a week (The 24th.)
That's where you're wrong.
I can hit the furthest camera on surface 2. saving who knows how much damn time. Piss off guards in the silo to get some doors open earlier... and in the frigate (I think. can't say for sure offhand if there are cinemas with guards, but I do remember them). The already mentioned depot and bunker 1. Shooting a drone gun on jungle (can't remember if it's actually out of the way or not, but i'll be able to take a tighter line if I don't have to throw a mine at it). Drone gun shooting, and opening of the elevator in control. Elevator in caverns... can't remember the cinemas so not sure if I'll get to shoot mainframes or anything. Control, I will test if Trev can take damage during the cinema... this could save a lot of effort on my behalf if I don't end up needing the grenade.
Not to mention all the other levels where I can just get rid of guards that would otherwise cause me grief.
Also, isn't there a cinema in the keycard hut on surface one? If so, and I could lure that guy out...
You probably could skip that guy, but you'll have to kill an extra lizard dude on the way to or from kasuto (in the cave). This might cost frames due to the un-even-ness of the ground, so you may want to kill the ironknuckle anyway. Fairie's not more than 4 or 5 frames faster than just walking off the elevator anyway, and I think you may lose more to kill the lizard guys (because of the un-even-ness). Just test a bit and see what would be faster.
1361 frames, as of the exit of Palace 5. Short of a major route overhaul, I'm not sure how much else can be saved.
Cool, nearly half a minute faster. As far as the route goes, I'm just about entirely convinced this is the fastest one. Short of only levelling magic, but that means later bosses will take forever to kill, and the time lost on them likely would surpass the time saved from avoiding pretty much everything else.
I noticed something with a daira back at the hammer cave that might save like five frames if you want to redo everything :P
Otherwise it looks pretty much perfect so far. I supersped through overworld movements and town and stuff. But I trust those, yeah.
Make sure to kill some Lizard guys on the way to palace six to set up the 6 count. Have it drop from one of the red knights in the room they're in, don't waste time grabbing that out of the way jar I did in my run. This alone will save three seconds.
Hey guys, sorry for the delays, but I'm having some problems manipulating UK course hole 6. I have been working on this steadily, the hole is just being surprisingly unco-operative. Unlike US 1, there is only one possible wind/pin setup for a hole-in-one (as opposed to four). I've redone holes 2 through 5 a few times already, but still no luck. I'll release a WIP after nine holes, since there likely will need to be some heavy wind manipulation again for hole 11 (or 10, I forget which one is the short one. 14 also, but most winds work there).
Good Luck. I was actually planning to improve on this somewhere along the line (need to at least finish NES Open first though), so, I don't mind helping out if you want. If not, make sure you do a good job so I don't end up making my third version of this and obsolete it :P
Cave maze 2: I lost 8 frames. How did you make the Octorok not appear at the end, Tempest?
It's there in my run, I just jumped over it. You have a one frame window of opportunity to make this jump though. Keep trying, and you'll eventually get it.
Boss two, if I remember correctly. Was Whirl-slash (3 hits), downstab (seven times, any more and the second helmet would hit you), two more whirl-slashes to finish him. I tried a few different methods, this one seemed fastest.
All my key grabs can be improved, that's at least a second there.
A few little fuck-ups I made along the way, corrected, might make manipulating encouters in the very end of the game not take as long, this could save up to five seconds.
I'll put more ideas here when I stop being lazy.
Also, if you are in fact going to do this, give the character a name. It's really just a cosmetic thing and no one will hold the 30-some frames lost against you. (even if it is just something uncreative like "Link")
Now, I'm off to get McWendy's, when I get back I'll watch your test run and tell you what I think.
EDIT: In the future, try using one of the hosting sites in the TASvideos FAQ. Rapidshit is ass.
Japan Course.
EDIT: Something I just noticed now, hit A after the scorecard is displayed (movie stops beforehand) and see what the course guy thinks of my -40 XD
Yes, I will be doing the other two courses as well. First Japan, then UK. Japan will be the longest course in terms of shots taken, UK the shortest. I think there is something like 3 par 4s on the UK under 320 Yards, so I might be able to break 30 strokes on that course. I've found my "motivation" again for this kinda stuff, so I doubt it'll be too long before I have another course done.
Some bad news. The current movie file desyncs with 2 players enabled from the start. Unless there is a way to "plug in a second controller" at some point during the movie, IE start of facility, I'll be doing the dam over again.
There is interest- mainly for the analog aspect of it. Holding down many buttons on keyboard isn't too tedious...
Also, will this support multiple controllers simultaneously? Like, two separate windows for controller 1, and 2. If not, and you have to toggle between them... it may be a bit more tedious, but the whole thing is still a godsend.
