I like the way the run is going to, primo. my only worry is that my opinion might not be shared if your work would (will) be submitted, so I'd gladly hear other opinions. I could not tell if it wasn't optimized enough (I could just suggest fancy things, such as killing as many enemies as possible, only with the clones for instance). for those hesitating to watch : this game has a lot of potential, it's a classic platformer, except the character has some special abilities, the shadow clones being the most interesting one. try it :)

a good TAS shouldn't count on the popularity of the game ; in fact, it should be interesting, spectacular, to anybody, knowing the game or not. if it's just made because the game is famous, it misses its target (broad audience) and merely done for the ego of the player(s). this is clearly against the rules : don't run games for your ego, don't create artificial difficulties, use your creativity to show even to non-experts what can be done, in a spectacular way. on a side note, I didn't watch the movie, and the posts I read don't make me want to either...

have you followed the tutorials in the FAQs ? (look above) it says to encode preferably in a lossless, less compressed as possible, codec, to lower cpu usage while avi dumping. the example given is Huffyuv. yes, since it's not compressed, the files get very big very quickly, but it's safer. check http://tasvideos.org/HowToMakeAVI.html hope it helps. also, make sure you have the latest, rerecording version of the emulator you want to dump an AVI with.

what is your graphic card ? its driver ? which plugin(s) do you use in mupen, and produce this result ? are those the same that you have in the non-rerecording, working version ? default settings both ? etc.

you can enqueue the files in a player (think about winamp). media player classic has such a playlist, you can toggle it, and drag&drop files into it. if you have the encoding codec, you can rejoin the files together (it's quite easy and fast in VirtualDub, it's called direct copy).

this game has all what it needs to be make a good tas : - short - fancy, cute - game unknown, yet interesting - special attack (and slopes) can be used to speed character up - some glitches (fast stair climbing, others...) - short bosses to me, it's the perfect example of games that should be picked. also, the author uses every element of the list with talent and ingeniosity. if the game was better known, I'd say it should be recommended for first time viewers, as it has all those features that clearly demonstrate how to make a tas interesting. nice work Sami, I hope you will find and tas some other gems soon again :)

glad to hear from you again primo ; it seems it's a two man topic, nevertheless I believe this will be a good submission once it's done. the new wip looks much more better, the waiting (boring) has been reduced to its minimum, and the new boss strategy is very impressive. two thumbs up ! keep up the good work :)

"being a pro" and "knowing the game well" are two different things. in the FAQ ("why and how"), you can read that here, players aren't pros, they're no better than the others players, they are just movie makers who studied the game and know it well. then, with the tools, they have infinite time and undos to perfect their work (just like a real cinema director). as for the games : there are already countless videos of this (great) game, and the rules say that you must beat worlds (human) records. unless you find glitches that have never been done before, you'll have trouble achieving that goal, especially for combos as for scores/best time : you will have to find very creative ways to avoid repetition, and add entertainment, because just finishing the game as fast as possible, or maxing out the scores, can be very repetitive. fighting games aren't usually a good choice (especially for beginners), since they are judged often for the art, and that is very subjective, hence giving you very little chance to get it accepted.

Seriously, quit complaining, n00bs. And why the heck would you be watching a run of a game you haven't even played?
I may be a total oot (or even n64) noob, but I'm not full of myself. looking at other people from above, as if you were superior, doesn't make you any better than me or anyone. you might have lost of sight the purpose of this site. a lot of people, like me, enjoy watching games done a way they could never achieve in real life (and this is true for both assisted and not). movie makers, speedrunners are, at least in my conception, kind people ready to offer a show normal people couldn't do by themselves, not for themselves. please show more respect to the audience, as without audience, the site wouldn't exist, except for the ego of the players, which I hope, and sincerly think, is not the case. I never owned any of the consoles (except GB) on this site, it does not make me less interested in watching movies, in fact I'm always thankful to the players who show me games I never played or even heard about, in a funny or spectacular way. if it surprises you that much, I suggest you try watching games you don't know, it's pretty amazing. as for oot : I don't see why I would not have the right to post my opinion, and we may discuss in a more civilized manner. I totally respect that, since a faster movie would obsolete this one, it HAS to be done as fast as possible, even if it has drawbacks, like killing the entertainment, and I even admits that it "adds" to the wtf factor. I was just complaining that some parts were boring, not that it had to be redone, sorry if it was misunderstood.

improvement 7 ?! but we're up to 9 since a while now... you might want to update your emulator, and cross fingers if you don't want to start from scratch again (hoping your movie will work directly). as for the desynch, I don't know.

I don't see the interest in decimating frames ; if the encoding codec is good enough, the compression between two consecutive equal frames will be perfect, ie the codec will compress the video at its maximum, whatever the framerate is... decimating frames will reduce size, but the gain would be minimal and the quality, inferior. on a side note : ok it's the fastest, but the backwards movement gets old quickly for me. I belong to the majority of players who never played this game, thus can't guess where Link is heading, and it's annoying.

I like those games, but I gave up on some levels often, not because the solution was hard to find, but mainly because some accessories needed to be placed/tuned very precisely to win. I don't have 1h to waste on one single level, moving stuff at pixel precision, especially when you have to combine dozains of objects. even the faqs cannot help you then... also, you can't chose the level/difficulty you want to play. that's why I prefer Aargon (laser/mirror game).

the question is : does it come from the emulator or the codec. make sure you pick a good working codec. try the same codec in another program, like virtual dub for instance. if vdub quits instantly too, you know the culprit (the codec).

no, he gave up, because the sms emulation wasn't good enough to bear the work ; if it's for genesis/megadrive only, (current rerecording) gens is enough for now.

because I wouldn't be published on tasvideos, so its author decided to publish him elsewhere by himself, which is totally his right. his audience would be much broader than a bunch of gmvs, in a wild topic... I watched the beginning but the entertaining factor wasn't much there. since it does not (explicitly) go for speed, I don't see what is so interesting here. sure it should be pretty hard to pull this on a real console, but as the rules say, don't run game for your ego's sake, we don't care about how hard the work was, it MUST look interesting... and to me, it isn't.

actually, the good one is there, in bold, near to the top. I'd bold it in red, in a bigger font if I could.

please refrain from posting "nice" in every topic of tas you like. it pollutes the forum, and frankly, we don't care. contributing means, try to explain at least why you (dis)like something, and it only has an interest in non (yet) published submissions. thank you, have fun on the forums.

it's not on the compatibility list, so good luck. btw, there is no "open iso" option, you need the dvd. mounting images within your OS maybe ? not sure...

store all the variations ? okay there's only 20 of them, but to tell them apart you would have to store all the scrambled possibilities, that could make a lot...

it should be bold, red, emphasized in the FAQs : update your media player classic (optional) and ffdshow. but sure to get the latest binaries from the latter.

some luck manipulation that could only be obtained on a TAS, not a real console perhaps ? since there is some randomness... am I repeating myself ? 0.o;;
