Capcom Unity's post doesn't help any by labeling it as a Speed Run, not a TAS. But even at Go Nintendo, which does, half the posts are so negative. I wish I could make them understand, but it'll be easier to punch out a brick wall then do that.
At last! GC/Wii TASing has arrived on TASVideos!
I'd like to encode this, but this emulator is pretty hardcore, so I can't wait to see a video dumping guide for this console.
I've enjoyed this game on Xbox LIVE Arcade. I guess the Wii version is the same. I'm used to see glitchfests when it comes to NES Mega Man TASes, but this one is actually a Wii Mega Man TAS, even if it looks like an NES one (unless it's emulation).
Can't wait for an encode.
Yeah, it's basically the same other then the 360's stupid desire to swap the Pause and Menu buttons around.
Almost time to put all that to the test!
After a very productive Sunday (or very non-productive Sunday if you ask my girlfriend, lol), I finished recording Wily Stage 4. The only thing better than how fast I finished this level, is how much further I've optimized it. As I said earlier, when I first TAS'd this level I saved 800+ frames off of Rockmanda's TAS. Well, thanks to much more efficient weapon energy conservation, I shaved another 337 frames, bringing the total time for this level down to 2:34.86!
I'll encode the stage and upload it tomorrow. But expect to see the conclusion of this TAS sometime this week!
Awesome man. But you shouldn't ignore your woman like that. She may refuse to make you sammiches.
An user should be able to choose for himself the name he wants his TAS on the site to be accredited to.
Theres not any real point anymore since all real names have been deleted in publications by someone. I have yet to figure out who or why they would do that.
I'd rather see it done using a slower character than have to listen to Daisy for a one hour plus run.
Her voice is so ANNOYING.
And anyway, Rosalina is anything but slow once she gets the Bowser Bike.
When I gave a damn about playing the game online against other people, I repeatedly stomped them with her.
whats exactly the difference between each mode ? diference in simulation and stage mode between each version?
The general difference between Normal and Professional/Special Modes (pulled from my SDA Run):
1. You start with the full 24 HP.
2. Magic is removed.
3. Simulation Mode is removed. You just go from act to act.
4. The initial 'statue inhabiting' animation has been removed form the startof the acts. You simply start the level right away.
5. Enemy damage does 2 HP damage. Terrain damage still does just 1.
6. Enemies that normally take 1 hit to kill now take 2. Multi-hit enemies don't take any more than before. Certain 'destructible terrain' like the floating skulls in Aitos Act I still only take 1 hit to kill.
7. Certain enemies have a different pattern, though not very many.
8. Magic Scrolls in the Acts have been replaced by Crushes.
9. NO CONTINUES. You lose and it's game over.
10. After an act is cleared, there is no life/time bonus. Your life gets refilled and you move on to the next level.
11. Projectiles in Aitos Act I have been removed and replaced with a 1-UP. You still get them for the Tanzara battle.
12. Ending is removed and you just go straight to the credits, with the final image changed from 'THE END' to 'YOU ARE THE BEST PLAYER!'
Differences between US Professional! mode and Japanese Special Mode (most of what I can think of offhand - this doesn't count religious references removed, since it was mainly in the simulation/creation section):
1. Changes in terrain in a few levels. Most noticeable in Filmoa Act I.
2. A few location name changes (Fillmore vs Filmoa, Kasandora vs Casandra, Marahna vs Marana, and Deathheim vs Death heim).
3. Filmoa Act II's music is the same as Act I.
4. Some enemies take even MORE damage.
5. Floating skulls in Aitos Act I can't be killed (they just self destruct).
6. Some boss attack changes (mainly faster, but Rafflasher in Marana Act I ducks in and out)
7. Timer stops after Satan Phase 1. Also, more lag during Phase 2 in the Japanese version.
8. All spikes (except the small falling ones), unless you're in a temporary invulnerable state are INSTANT KILL. Also extra spikes in various locations (most noticeably in Filmoa Act II and Bloodpool Act II).
9. Less lives. US starts with 5, Japanese with 2.
What's interesting is that the USA version's save file can actually work with unlocking the Japanese game's Special mode, just by renaming it. I don't know if the normal game will work that way though. ^^;;
Can't wait to see this. Special Mode is tough. While it's longer then the USA's Professional!, the difficulty choice I think trumps the time issue.
GO FOR IT!
I was one of the ones who loved the concept on the original. I also like this, because it keeps he same stupid fun of the original, while still being different from it.
Voting YES.
Ah ok. Still roughly what I thought you were doing. You've probably noticed this already, but using the Blade isn't exactly "free" damage. Although it can hit him while he's invincible, it renews his invincibility timer. It restarts once the most recent shot hits him. That's why I never use the second Blade shot on him. Let's me use the Rebound Striker for 4 damage again 3 frames sooner.
In any event, the new strategy I use is still slightly faster. I'm dumping the replay now but it will take a while to get to that part (every time I check for desyncs or dump it has to start from the beginning). the dumped frames play at 60 FPS, but the program I'm using to combine the audio and video (Windows Live Movie Maker) degrades it to 30 FPS. What program do you use?
If you can, use VirtualDub to merge the video and audio. Otherwise, I think avisynth does it as well, but I'm considerably less familiar with it.
I watched this and the entire run except for like the final boss I was going "what's the point of P2?" Can't you give P2 a little more purpose other then to look colorful? >_>
Nice, but this goes against what this site is about, IMO anyways. Hacking to make a game work in an emulator or a full rom hack to make the game different or harder? Fine. Hacking it to go straight to the ending? Eh...no fun really.
NO vote.
