Case Re-opened. How about just “Savestate run”? - It’s more specific than Timeattack or TAS; “Savestate” vs “Tool”. - By taking the “speed” part out, it effectively describes every run on the site; not all videos are aiming for fastest time. And.. - it will no longer be confused with a legitimate “Speedrun” or “Speed run”. - Generally, the use of savestates automatically disqualifies a run from being a legitimate human record, so there’s another hint. - Even if people don’t know what a “savestate” is, they should know what a “save” is. That should be good enough for them to get the idea. And before you argue, if there are people who don’t know what savestates or emulators are, then they sure as hell also won’t know what Tools are being used in a Tool-assisted speedrun. Just think of the pros and cons for each of the terms. “Savestate run” has a lot of pros. I used to use Timeattack to describe these runs, but I realize that Timeattack doesn’t define or describe anything about them, other than it’s a speedrun or done in some kind of Time attack mode. Superplay can mean several kinds of great gaming accomplishments. Tool-assisted speedrun has always been pretty vague in my opinion, but if you insist on using it, why not just call it “Tool-assisted run”. Just take the word “speed” out and you can avoid any confusion. Labeling them as speedruns wouldn’t be correct anyway because they’re not all speedruns. Whatever term is decided on, it doesn’t really matter to me. Sometimes when I’m on other boards, I call them “Emulator runs with re-records and slowmo” or “Perfect simulated speedruns” to make sure there’s no confusion of what I’m talking about. I mean, if you guys can post arguments several paragraphs long, then one or two extra words wouldn’t be too hard, at least on boards that are unfamiliar with these. BTW, there’s another idea for a term: “Perfect Simulated Speedrun”(PSS) or “Perfect Simulated Run”(PSR) or “Simulated Perfect Speedrun”(SPS) or “Simulated Perfect Run”(SPR) or just “Simulated Speedrun”. That might be even better than savestate run. What do you guys think? Aside from all of that, I also like the “What if? run”. I’d want to use it if everyone knew what it was referring to.

I still have a Little Nemo improvement if anyone's still interested. It's just that the last few levels are so damn boring to do.

I agree, it’s getting much harder to come up with good run ideas. I don’t mean just fast walkthroughs, but games that would look AMAZING with re-records. I’m focusing on speedrunning until I come up with that something amazing. Some game ideas, off the top of my head: Gens: -Ecco 1 & 2 (I don’t see one up yet) -Vectorman 1 & 2 -Castlevania: Bloodlines -Bible Adventures (might be funny to watch) -One of the Shinobi’s -X-men 1 & 2 -MK 2 or 3 with Shang Tsung (This could be crazy!) SNES: -EVO -Anyone do a 2-player SoM yet? -Super Adventure Island -Super Ghouls n Ghosts -Yoshi’s Island For NES, I tried Bonk’s Adventure, Cattou Ninden Teyandee, and Athena the other day. None of them seem too interesting to watch, and for an old, poorly designed game, Athena is surprisingly bug free.

If anyone is bored or has some free time, could you try these two challenges? I’m trying to get a good estimate of Wooden Sword vs White Sword: 1. Complete Level 3 with the Wooden Sword and 4 bombs. You can go in with as much health as you want, just try to finish as fast as you can. You must pick up the Raft, the key in the Zol room, and the key just north of the 2 red darknut rooms. Up+A is allowed. Timer starts the moment you touch the entrance square in the overworld and ends when you touch the triforce piece. 2. Complete Level 4 with the Wooden Sword and 4 bombs. You can go in with as much health as you want, just try to finish as fast as you can. You must pick up the Ladder and the two on path keys. Up+A is allowed. Timer starts the moment you touch the entrance square in the overworld and ends when you touch the triforce piece. Please post your best times for each level. More importantly, if you make several attempts, could you please also post your average time for each(or even just estimate your average). Michael, Deviance, I know you guys already did this challenge, but can you try it with the new settings?

As far as I can tell, most games and anime have always had white main characters. Even if they’re a non-white race, they are still drawn to look white. Only high budget anime series or movies seem to include other races for their characters. It’s always been like that, don’t ask me why. In regards to games, I think it wasn’t until PS or PS2 came out that they were able to make the characters look “more Japanese” with the detailed CG cutscenes. I don’t find the new artwork for Link to be more Japanese though. If they made Link Japanese, he would probably look like Tidus, then they could have Square do the character designs. That might be interesting to see. Ramzi, I don’t think anyone should be offended or think you’re racist just because you use the terms White, Non-White, Japanese and American in your discussion. It’s not like those terms or your arguments are derogatory or meant to insult anyone.

I'd like to see this finished too. I already like it much better than the played out fast as possible run routine. Looks like SMB3 will amaze people once again.

Watching this video was more disappointing than anything else.
Could it be a case of Speed vs Aesthetics, where aesthetics would be more desirable? Bowser’s castle was a huge improvement in both sense, but as for the rest of the run, I don’t think people would mind a few frames slower if you fit in more wall tricks and better looking plays. I agree with Deviance about Mario jumping into the clouds to start off his run. That was the first thing that Wowed me when first seeing Morimoto’s clip. The new run is nice, but just some thoughts.

Does anyone else see Link becoming more and more Japanified?
What do you mean? Are you talking about the theme, or Link transforming into a wolf? I think the whole playing as a wolf thing was a wicked idea. It adds another level of play to the game, along with the fighting on horseback. I’m already booking a few weeks off just so I can stay home and play this thing when it comes out. XD

Awesome. The last level was brilliant. Too bad you couldn't make it over the pit in 1-1 though.

I found out Rodrigo's route, for his 35:50 run anyway. He really does go to 2 after 1. Did he tell you what route he used for his 33:51 run? I think I already know what it is, but I'm just curious.

I found the 3 fastest speedrun routes. I'll do a write up in a bit.

Add another one for Out of this World. It does seem to be the most glitched-out run of the SNES movies.

I was definitely thinking Sonic 3, but I'd thought I'd better watch the rest of the movies first. After going through most of them, I still have to go with Sonic 3. It's just really that good. FODA's Pit Fighter was pretty funny to watch too. Wouldn't want to mess with that guy in real life.

I think that's a great idea. There should even be a new forum added where you can post new ideas or unfinished movies and see if anyone wants to team up or continue the movie. It could make things more interesting and the movies might get finished faster too.

I'm actually working on a speedrun right now. (See my post in Speedrun Competitions). I'm also finally appreciating how difficult it is to get a full run done with a decent time on this game. I'll have the route figured out soon enough.

Playing through the game so many times rekindled my interest again, so now I’m trying for run in the low 33’s. Up until now I’ve been using a modified version of the route we came up with, but the more I play this game, the more impractical the route seems. Not just the gambling, but also in terms of bomb drops and health for dungeons. I don’t even think the best Zelda players in the world can run through L8 with only 3 hearts and the white sword. The runs I did on the NES using this route barely get me 40 min. However, I switched to TSA’s route and I got 37 min on the fourth try, which kind of leaves me in wonder. So right now, I’m back in the planning and testing stage again. I just know it has to end like this: -Whistle to L3 -L7 -Magic Sword -L6 -Whistle to L2 -L8 -Whistle to L1 -L9

I’ve tried doing the potion trick on all the different versions of the game with no success, so I guess we can scratch that idea. Glad I didn’t go through with the run. I did find another way to pointlessly freeze the game though, this time with left+right.

Yep. Just make sure it's recording before you hit power on.

Agree. Just the speed and momentum in Chemical Plant is a jaw dropper. Oil Ocean was pretty sweet too, running right over the oil. Sonic 2 and 3 are my favorite runs so far. Sonic 2 a little more since I played it a lot more and I find it more nostalgic.

It was taped on a real NES. http://www.twingalaxies.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3016&highlight=megaman http://www.twingalaxies.com/index.aspx?c=22&pi=23&gi=2019&vi=9719 My NES was messed up too. It kept crashing and wouldn’t power on properly, but Boco helped me fix it. It involves opening up your NES and bending each and every pin back that have been pushed in over the years. After that it worked fine, but it still crashes with the slightest bump. Even if the video quality isn’t so hot, you can still submit it to TG. They check to make sure that you recorded the power-on sequence and check for anything that might indicate cheating in the video. It doesn't need to be high quality, but it's for their benefit.
