That was a fast post :) . Yea, SMB3 on GBA is exactly the same as the nes version, except everything looks really squished.

Check it out. I did the speedrun of the game on my friend's GBA and had him time me with a stopwatch. I managed a time of 11:19, from start button to entering the final door! Everything went perfectly on this run. All 3 hands were avoided and all the high-risk moves were pulled off successfully. Wish I got this thing on tape. Here are the level times we wrote down: 1-1: 294 1-2: 291 1-3: 284 1-f: 287 8-1: 285 8-2: 290 8-f: 373 END: 350

Don't worry, it's coming. I've been really busy with other things though. The partners and I are finally opening up a gaming store and I'm stuck with creating the inventory. I'm also practicing for speedruns to submit to TG. Bisqwit says the section for Genesis movies should be up in a week or two, so Sonic 2 will be definitely be finished by then.

Michael, are you still planning on submitting your SMB3 run to TG? I'm going to submit recordings for MM2, MM3, SMB2, SMB3. But if you're going to submit SMB3, then I probably won't do that one.

I'm not saying you have to prove anything to anybody, or that Nesticle is the best emulator. I'm just telling you that it has an online multiplayer feature so two people can connect to each other, and you can watch each other play. If you know of any other emulators that can do this, you can use those too. But, I've never had any problems with Nesticle, and it does play most games just fine. It even plays some games that don't work on Famtasia or VirtualNES.

What do you mean by use keystrokes? If you're talking about playing keystroke recordings, it wont work because the timings will be way off. Plus, you can tell them to stop moving in the middle of their play and tell them to jump or do whatever, then resume play.

This topic's not for a competition, but I believe it should be posted here. I just thought of a good way how you can prove your gaming and speedrun skills to people, and to show that your speedruns are legit. The nes emulator Nesticle has an online multiplayer feature that lets you connect to other people, so you can play 2-player games over the net. If someone questions the authenticity of your speedruns, they can download Nesticle, connect to you(or vice versa), and watch you play the game in real time. They can then confirm that you are not using savestates, slowmo, or playing a recorded movie. It can prevent the player from entering any cheats because the person hosting the game has full control. It also confirms that they are not using a hacked rom because both players need to be using the same rom in order to play. You can even chat while playing the game, so you can tell them to do stuff to make sure that it really is them playing. I don't know if any other emulators have this feature, but I know Nesticle does for sure. My friend and I used to play 2-player games online all the time. One person can just sit back and watch while the other plays. So the next time someone doesn't believe your skills or level times, and asks you to prove it in front of them on a real nes, this would be the best alternative.

The current record for Emerald Hill 1 is 20 seconds on the actual game, so there's some other route that's faster.
Yeah, I already re-done the first few levels, again. Thanks for the link. I see that they don't have videos for Casino Night Zone, so you guys can look forward to that. Also timed finishing fast vs waiting at the end. Even though the time bonus takes longer, its still faster by about 4 seconds finishing fast. Thats just for zone 1-1 though.

Are you going for the emeralds to unlock super sonic?
No. Getting all the emeralds would add at least 12 min to the video. Also add on time for extra ring collecting and waiting for the portal. Plus, some people might find doing the halfpipe over and over again boring. I want the whole run to be fast throughout. Emerald Hills 1 - 0:21 Emerald Hills 2 - 0:39 One thing I noticed is that if you finish a level too fast, you get a huge time bonus that takes a while to add to your score, plus a free life. It might be faster to slow down at the end, just like in SMB so you don't have to wait for fireworks.

anyone can make their own versions of them and publish them freely.
Question is, if they make their own version and publish it, am I allowed to use their version in the video? If so, would that mean that I could use any song, played and recorded by any artist, as long as the original piece they are playing is no longer copyrighted? Let's say You played and recorded Vivaldi's Summer. Would I be able to use your recording in the video without your permission?

Yeah, awesome job Jyzero! I've been recording Sonic 2 for a while now, and I haven't run into a single problem. Keep up the good work.

How about just using the music from whatever game is currently being shown. It's ok to use that music in the speed run videos (at least I think it is), so why not the video you're working on?
The clips are around 5-10 seconds long. Changing the music and the type of music that fast would make it sound pretty ugly. That's why in the video I made, I removed the sound from each clip first. Also, if that's how it works, why not put a quick clip of ddr gameplay at the beginning so we can use the song in the video.

Warp suggested using Antonio Vivaldi's Summer- Presto song. I liked the idea. He apparently couldn't find this thread again to come here to say it...
Why is it ok to use that song? Even though the original composer is long dead, isn't the song played and recorded by another artist? Wouldn't we have to get permission from him before using it? Plus, I'd rather use Storm by Vanessa Mae, which is a redone version of Summer.

How does this videoproject going? Finished soon? :-)
Well, I actually finished a rough draft a few days ago. However, there seems to be some legal issues using the song, so working on it any further would be pointless, sorry. I'm not a legal expert, so I can't debate whether it is ok to use it in the video or not. I guess now, the only options for making the trailer is to get permission to use the song or to change the song, which will probably end up with the same problem. If anyone wants to take over trying to come up with a trailer, feel free.

At first I had both the downhill and uphill, but then got rid of the downhill to make room for the cannonball scene. Also added Metroid getting to Tourian early and killing Kraid, SMB3 Bowser's castle wall glitch. Gradius is in there too.

I believe that you will make an excellent video. The music sounds like it is good for this. (Although I like Air / Ode to Joy. ;P)
Beethoven's 9th is a favorite of mine and was one of the first ones I tried. The problem with it is that the portion that I think would go perfect with the video is only 1:00 long, when the choir is at its loudest. If you have eva episode 24, that part of the song starts when Misato says Hyuga's name and then Shinji screams. If that part were longer, it would be really good to use, but it would also make it look more like a trailer and less clips would be able to fit in. "Stomp to my beat" is active from start to finish and I already found perfect placements for most of the clips.

14.Super Mario Bros 3 - Running through castle Which part of the castle? I think the best scene from the castle would be climbing up the stairs before the shortcut. Actually if you choose that scene you should take it from my video because in my video Mario keeps facing left as he goes up the stairs and I think that looks cool.
It's more of a 1 second filler between scenes.

Since there are so many clips, I'm gonna make it look more like a music video rather than a trailer. You will still see all the cool glitches and tricks and the scenes will match the music much better. Some games will be seen for only a second or two while others a little longer. Right now I'm playing tetris with these clips to make everything fit perfectly. The rough draft will be finished as early as tommorow.

Which did you try?
Lots. Must have went through a hundred classical songs. Bizet, Brahms, Vivaldi, Rossini, Beethoven Symphony 3-9, Wagner, Mozart, to name a few. Also tried a few apocalyptic sounding ones like O Fortuna, Dies Irae, Duel of the Fates, Lux Aeterna Two Tower remix, O Verona, Neodammerung. None of them seem at all fitting for nes videos. Of all the songs I went through, the ddr songs seem to be the best fitting because they have tons of energy. I want this video to make people's jaws drop and be like "Holy ****!". Perfect to hype up the site ;)

I'm mostly done the rough draft, and so far the video looks pretty crazy. The song I chose for the vid is "Stomp to my Beat". I tried using classical music at first, but nothing went well with the clips, even the more powerful pieces. Also tried OC remixes, but still nothing really went well. So, went with the ddr song. Its video game music, lot of energy, perfect length for a trailer, and after hearing it I immediately had a picture of how the video will look like. These are the clips used so far: 1.Track & Field - Triple Jump 2.Super Mario Bros - 8-4 wall jump 3.Legend of Zelda - L8 2nd Blue darknut room 4.Super Mario Bros 2 - Double jump with key 5.Megaman 2 - Quickman fight 6.Megaman 2 - Bubbleman wall glitch 7.River City Ransom - Ivan fight 8.Wizards & Warriors - Jump boost from bird 9.Wizards & Warriors - Warp back to level 1 10.Gradius - Playaround 11.Super Mario Bros 3 - 1ups from cannonballs 12.Super Mario Bros 3 - 8-2 uphill 13.Chip n Dale - Zone H Still have a ton of clips left to squeeze into a 1:30 song. I'm also thinking of adding titles for each game as they appear on the screen. Blip, the version of famtasia for creating avi files has some problems. The video in the avi files play several times faster than normal. Also, its showing the resolution as 256x-240. I can play it on wmp, but it doesn't work with any video editing software. Right now, I'm just taking the clips out of the avi files.

So get it on tape and take the record already :) You can probably do it with anything under 11:30. Btw, what's the status of the wall glitch dilemma?

Ok, for the video, each game will be shown for around 8 seconds before the next game, which is long enough for at least 1 amazing scene for each game. Some games will have 2. So for the following games: -Megaman 1 -Megaman 2 -River City Ransom -Castlevania -Castlevania 3 if you were to pick out 1 amazing scene from each one, which would you pick. I need to know what you guys think because these one's have a lot of cool plays in them, and there's only about enough time to fit in 1 for every game.

I thought all you have to do is include the authors name and song title in the credits. You see a lot of people that make music videos all over the net do just that.

Note to whomever is going to make the movie: I have a version of Famtasia that writes a raw .avi file. This might be of some use. It can also be modified to suppress the "MOVIE REPLAY" etc messages. Contact me directly if you want a copy.
I tried all those files and they work just fine for me. gj blip! Ill try making the avi files with that famtasia version you have (btw, does it record the sound output as well?) And does anyone have any suggestions for what song to use? Rock, Hip Hop, Techno, Dance, Anime, Game Remix, something that you think would be good for a compilation like this.

Quickly looking over the games list, these would probably look good in a compilation/trailer/music video: 2 player boss juggling - Battletoads Swinging around really fast - Bionic Commando Level B boss fight - Chip and Dale 3rd Form Dracula fight - Castlevania 3 2 player flying knee - Double Dragon 2 Slaughtering Jason outside - Friday the 13th Playing around - Gradius Blue Darknut room - LoZ Various Tricks - MM1/MM2 Yellow Devil fight - MM3 Any boss fight - RCR Wall jump - SMB1/SMB2j Double Jump with key/Beating Birdo with it - SMB2 8-2 - SMB3 99 lives from the cannonballs - SMB3 Long Jump - Track & Field Boost from the Birds - Wizards & Warriors Running and jumping around - Solstice/Gremlins 2/Ninja Gaiden 2 I really liked that MMZ2 trailer for the speed run. A lot of high speed running/jumping/slashing around with Zero's theme playing. I can probably put something together for the trailer with these clips and the right music. This would be something fun to work on.
