Wow, this was awesome, great work. I really thought this level of minimization would be possible with using glitches to their fullest extent. Way to stick with it and work this out; I am impressed!

Can someone link me a save state at the start of LH for testing this scare crow skip method please.

I think the guay skip might be possible by gathering up the all the tektites you need while you have the guay following you, the guay will follow you for about 6 seconds then turn away, you just need to run under it again and it will follow you again. So keep doing this while you set up the tektites just right. Then if all is done right, you can do 4 (is this the right number?) consecutive back flips starting soon after the guay starts to go for you again, and the last one off of the guay. Also you could potentially have the last back flip be a mega flip so you could start on higher ground, I think this ends the hover so you can't do another back flip after that but it might be required. Has anyone been able to get to the fishing pond after tektites hovers with just one more bomb hover? And then aren't there 2 guays you can use if necessary?

There's always the guay skip, can you hit it with a deku nut to keep it in the right place or make it come back to get you?

could you upset the cuco and use it to give you an additional boost when you're close to the bridge? Or what about throwing another bomb right before you megaflip and boosting off of that? Or do a forwards megaflip and grab the ledge?

I know it lets you mega flip closer the ledge but why. Why can't you do that without it? Aren't there ways to do sideways/backwards facing rolls and what not? and what about mega side-hop? Maybe there's some new glitches to found like mega flip out of a SS, or grabbing a cuco before a mega flip.

why was the bridge skip possible with the isg, but not without?

Here's the thread at SDA: http://speeddemosarchive.com/forum/index.php/topic,10168.75.html I think it'd be best if all discussion be done in the SDA thread, you can post as a guest without making an account. As of now the top priority is getting a special HL mod made which can do a true frame advance which stops threads and isn't fps dependent. What we need most is programmers.

Would this work for shortcut to level 3?: go to path to lvl7, air jump and what not to make to final room where you go to lvl7. Then door glitch in that room and go up to the lvl3 room just above. Maybe those purple blocks don't require crusher :P If they really do require crusher which seems most likely, completing lvl3 most likely is required, UNLESS, someone can find some sort of horizontal zipping type glitch.

Did you try any IVZ to skip to world 8 from 3, as it might be faster than the air-jump method. But really what would be best is IVZ to world 3. Isn't there also some left+up+right glitch involving jason by the tank that can skip you past walls. There was a wip of it a couple pages back. If you're talking the be blocks in the overhead level right before the plutonium boss I doubt the crusher makes any difference with those, I bet those upgrades are only for the tank, since when you pause it has a picture of the tank labeling the upgrades and jason outside the tank can't shoot the blocks and doesn't get any of the other upgrades the tank gets. If you really need the crusher to get to lvl3 then what about IVZ to get to end of lvl2 faster?

No dice. This one really has me stumped. Metroid has some very strange things about it, maybe there's an explanation. There is a SLIGHT chance I was delusional as well. I really just have no answer now, I'd love to hear if anyone has got some bright ideas though.

Have you considered doing a quick draft run just to make sure everything will work on the emu and what not? You might learn some things doing this too that would cause you to change earlier parts of the runs which you hadn't forseen. I'm really in favor a having a grand plan that will work before going through frame optimization.

We'd want some kind of bot that can feed the input into a demo recorded run. Doing it manually would suck, when it could be automated.

What do you mean by the particular first section of the level?
I mean from the start of this level up until this spot with the koopas. Why can't you just do this fall on koopa trick to the right of the platform you're going to jump off of for the the main jump later?

How are you getting the koopas down there anyway, I thought they won't walk off ledges? Are you hitting their shell into the air, then having them sprout back in the air, then hitting them again? Could you just do this to the right of the platform you jump off of? I'm confused why you can't do this on the right side of the lower platform. You said you can't make it back to the platform; what is it, and what is the platform? So there's no way to move the screen left at all? All you can do is move yourself right while the screen stays in place? And you can't even do this at this particular first section of the level? Could small fire mario help at all with the first method?

HL's engine was mostly a quake mod, with most of the q2 netcode and some other things from q2.

sweet, what was java bot able to do? This seems like a project where programming assistance will be necessary.

So I've recently found out that the speedrunning community has expressed a great interest in seeing a HL TAS. The project is just getting started and we believe to have a working frame advance and auto-jump. However, we still need more programming. Here's some things we need written before this project can really start to move: -demo play back function that disables pauses -auto vibrate hook, auto circle jump hook -ideal modular yaw calculator and adjuster. For the last one there's various programs I have in mind. Basically we want to be able to specify the parameters of a turn and have the program set your yaw to the ideal values on each frame during the turn. The best program I can think of would be something that's lets you input an initial velocity vector, a sequence of (x,y) ordinates, and possibly a desired final velocity vector, and then the program figures out the fastest way to move through all the coordinates by specifying move left/right and the yaw on each frame.

So I'm looking to get huffers' attention. I'm hoping he'd be interested in being part of the team working on a HL TAS. Anyone know how I could contact him besides PM? EDIT: well he responded to PM right away and is really interested so all is well! :)
