On three seperate occasions I made a note to ask a question about why you did something during the movie, but you answered it in the course of playing. (Why you did the desert levels in the order you did, for example). There's really only one question I have: In the red Crystal Cavern world (I think its the third one?) there's a part where you crash into the ground in a narrow hallway and kill four spike-top enemies, which causes a rather large amount of noticible lag. Would it have been faster to not do that, or did you need them out of the way?

Even emulating a power cycle won't work. I tried to do that the first time I played the game. On top of getting the 7 keys, you also HAVE to beat the 7 Koopa Kids. Else you can't actually enter World 8. Of course, I don't think there's a way to emulate a power cycle in FCEU, so it's a moot point as far as the run is concerned anyway...

Yeah there's a code you can enter to restart with a clean slate. I was stuck at 8-7 for the longest time, and only recently finish the game (finally). That final Bowser battle was really nifty, and after the previous 7 battles I was wondering how it could be made more challenging, and lo and behold... he has to be beaten with fireballs. Spiffy. Though, I wasn't fond of the palatte swap, Bowser should be green, darnit. Anyways, yay more interest.

I can't figure out how to manipulate the weather effects either. There's probably some way to do it, perhaps it's a variable decided before exiting the previous level... At any rate, this looks good. If you're continuing this attempt I look forward to more. Though, you might wanna check with the administrators first, it'd sure suck if you put a lot of work into a run of his hack, only for them not to accept it. SMW:TLC opened up a lot of new possiblities, but they aren't going to accept EVERY hack out there.

It's a nice start, Krysimis, I especially like your using the shell/ice block on Boom-Boom in the first two worlds. It could stand to be tweaked a bit, but otherwise there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with your method. Save one thing, I guess it's one other little glitch with the hack. When you get the key you exit the room to fast. You'd notice on the item menu on the overworld that the key doesn't appear in your list. You have to wait for the key to completely stop blinking and disappear first befor exiting the room. You can tell for sure when you exit the pipe, if the first little key icon on the status bar is lit-up then you did it right. On your movie it's still empty when you exit and the key isn't in the items list on the overworld.

I came across that Prototype Rom myself, and sure enough it seems to be fully translated, though not really translated WELL. "We want to join the Rebellions!" I'm not entirely sure if it would be accepted, Prototype roms seem to be a bit iffy. Plus I haven't played through it, and I dunno who has, so who knows if there's not some error later in the game?

Another possible screenshot would be in Wily Stage 2, on Cutman's screen, while Rockman is up on the top right corner before he escapes the room. It's a nice shot that would show-off a glitch that is typically used throughout the movie.

Ah, was it? Well, in that case my vote is for the Ice Man shot, then. :>

This game has been officially broken. Way to go. Another possibility for a screenshot to use is near the end of the Cutman stage, for a brief moment it looks like Rockman is about to fall on two spikes, right before using the beam to jump out of there. An image of right before he uses the beam would be pretty good too.

Awesome, that worked. I never thought to just leave those 6 coins be. I got through it without killing all the enemies, so I guess just getting the coins is necessary.

The game's site has a list of cheat codes you can use. ie: Not game genie codes, but codes he programmed into the game. There's one that unlocks all the locks and opens World 8. I'm not sure if it'll work on your current game, or if you have to start with a clean slate for it to work. Hopefully you can use it and still keep your items. I admit, the key thing is a bit of an oversight. Personally I used the keys on the locks as soon as I got em, and regularly used items so my list never filled up. At least if someone attempts a TAS of it, all that can be planned out. Let me know if you get through 8-7, that world still has me stumped.

One thing to be sure to note is that the movie in question made the run on a bad dump of the Rom. So if you want to try and beat the time of the run yourself make sure you use a GOOD dump of the Rom and save yourself the same trouble. That's probably the only reason that run hasn't been published yet.

I believe in the NES version, the cancel-reselect trick for weapon (and magic) level gaining needs 100 reselects for EVERY level. In the remakes they dropped the number a bit for earlier levels to make the game easier. The good news is, though, that it doesn't increase later on, it stays at 100.

I've finished the game once or twice myself. Using the NES version on emulator, I never did get through the Origins or GBA versions. I'd personally love to see a TAS of this game. Most people seem to dislike it, calling it the Black Sheep of the FF series, but I've always enjoyed the game's uniqueness. It also has a surprisingly good story (for the time), though that won't factor into the TAS at all, unless you make subtitles for the AVI. I seem to recall a good source of money early on, if you need it, is to fight ogre-like enemies found far north of where you start, they randomly drop spell books which sell for quite a bit of cash.

Yes vote from me. I noticed something though. Did anyone else see a resemblance in some of the stages to settings from Studio Ghibli movies? The last part of stage three, for example, bears a strong resemblance to the underground fossilized trees in Nausicaa (as do the flying insects in that particular area too). And the final stage of the full run (not this one) also really resembles Laputa. Granted, there have been many many videogames that have borrowed themes from Studio Ghibli movies, so this is nothing new.

I'm greatly interested in the run, but I'm one of the people who really doesn't understand what you're talking about ^_^. But wow, way to break Wily Stage 3...

Think we could see a demo, or some screenshots? Or are you keeping it totally hush-hush until its finished? :D

Actually I have a headache just reading that, so I doubt I'd understand the more complicated version, I'll just take your word for it. ;) However you're doing it, improvements are good.

So.. did you figure out the Criticals thing? Your last post before this was asking for help on that matter, but now it seems like you got it figured out. Either way, great. Ch. 1 in less than 10 minutes sounds sweet.

I thought they were interesting, myself, but they have no practical application in a TAS. In normal play the snow and the rain can reveal the location of a hidden block, that's about it. Snowy levels, though, make everything slick and icy, so it's just to make things interesting, I guess.

Ah yes, I forgot, the main site for the hack hasn't been updated since its release. I got the patch off of Zophar's Domain, or Google is good too. Yes, at any rate, this could be a very interesting TAS to make, if someone were interested. There's also a Nesten movie on the site itself (That link DOES work) which plays through the first world, and shows the location of the key. It's just a normal movie, but it might be enough to get a potential TAS-er started. I'll have to replay the game myself shortly. I found all the keys on my first playthrough, but I've forgotten since then. And, not to mention, that one would need to know the location of the keys FIRST, since that would have to be taken into account in planning. Item storage also allows for many more options than the usual SMB3, so this TAS would be very tricky to even plan.
