To be correct it should be "Finding the outcome of the RNG means finding the address in memory". It could be that people mess up terms or don't know it's actual meanings.

RNG is the alghorithm which determines the random values. Finding the address for the random values is easy in most cases. Finding the RNG is not.

For good TASing tutorials the best way to do them is to seperate theory (stuff about subpixels, optimization, luck-manipulation, etc.) - without using an emulator and just show things with images or simple animations - and actually TASing (apply the knowledge, usage of tools, etc.). Personally I'm really interested in contributing for a tutorial, but I don't know if my spoken English is understandable. Also I lack owning a microphone. I almost did a tutorial on the lsnes movie editor with text on screen, it's really annoying to put all the text together, I don't have a decent video editing program. So I only could help with writing a text without a video.

Sorry, voting no. Just standing around in the auto-scroller levels, without playing around with enviroment and enemies in unexpecting ways makes this hard to watch. Besides that there're obvious parts which can be improved, even for people who aren't familiar with SMB3.

Does anyone know how to manipulate luck in this game? I'm in the beginning in 5-1 and I need to manipulate some enemies. In the current published run the first enemy shoots, but for me it jumps, even with the same input. I found two memory addresses which show the behaviour of the enemy: 0x0678 and 0x0758, it should be 0x0758, but I'm not exactly sure. I haven't found a RNG address. There's no way to manipulate the enemies with inputs or delaying frames, even doing different things in the previous level doesn't work.

For those who want to help with FF can pick up questions from the Triple Round and create some funny answers for each answer. I can hopefully luck manipulate the selected question into the movie. There's an alternate site with answers which contain rules and multiple answers, but it isn't sorted by rounds. Use the search function from your browser to find the question you picked. You can send me your answers by PM.

gamerretro2, you have a severe case of autism. You barely speak any language, you seem to not even understand your own. We already told you that you're an annoying little kid, but you keep ignoring everything.

What run is optimized? Yours? or the published? Your memory address is wrong. I can tell, because it's not in the WRAM. Also you are really stupid for not searching the internet for RAM addresses first: http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/SNES/SuperMarioWorld.html#UsefulMemoryAddresses

But they have MESHUGGAH and he almost never finishes anything that is longer than 7 minutes. He overcomplicates things and then realizes that after 9 weeks he only had beaten the first level.

I need answers ... I'm stupid and can't come up with anything. It even doesn't need to be twitch related or fit into the question.

I can handle lsnes movies. :) Speaking of the lsnes movie editor, it's a bit hard to use it properly if you don't know how to select multiple frames and using branches and use savestates. The first thing I recommend to do is "Change number of lines visible" and deactivate "Lock scroll to playback". Selecting multiple frames: Right click on the first frame you want to select and hold the right mouse button, then draw over the frames you want to select, release the right mouse button and select copy/cut/delete(/toggle input/clear input - in case you selected individual controllers). Using branches: When you make a new branch it will copy the current input to the new branch. When you're modifiyng inputs on the new branch it will not affect the old one. Branches look like this:
          ---------
Branch1
         /---------
------- /
Start
------- \
         \---------
Branch2
          ---------
When you're trying to switch to Branch 2 while you're in Branch 1, you can get this message "Can't change branch: Branch '1' differs in past." You can still easily switch branches by going back to the beginning of your movie: Movie -> Rewind to start. Using savestates: Savestates in read-only mode work different than in read+write mode. You can easily mess up your work! Never switch to read+write mode if you don't have a savestate or branch with the entire input file you already made. If you switch to read+write mode the inputs after the current frame are lost. In case you need to switch to read+write mode, because you get this message "Can't load movie/savestate: Save is not from this movie", you should first save the inputs to a savestate, which you shouldn't use while actual TASing, or save the inputs to a new branch. Quick frame append With a left mouse click on the frame counter you can append a frame. By holding down the mouse button and drawing over frames, you will append the number of frames you selected. Altough this feature is not really needed, but nice to know There might be more featuers like that, I don't know if there's an instruction manual of the movie editor, these are just things I found while TASing.
