After seeing this publication [4377] GBC Winnie the Pooh: Adventures in the 100 Acre Wood "100%" by Winslinator in 17:40.63, would that mean that a 100% TAS of this game wouldn't make a category of its own? For a good part of the time the TAS would look like any% as it is mandatory to complete all missions but the differences would be:
Play all the mini-games at least once Visit all the characters Collect all Gaddgets (even those from other game modes)
I've planned things out a bit and maybe I'll even try TAS this category. Would a 100% category make Nacho's Any% obsolete ?

Sorry if this post is disturbing but it is not directly related to TAS but does anyone know if all the badges and clothings that are listed here https://www.mariowiki.com/List_of_badges_in_Mario_%26_Luigi:_Superstar_Saga are in the EU and USA version of the game ? I despair of trying to beat Trunkle and get the "Lucky Bros." badge. but without success ... It is however said, if I understood correctly that that there is 61.29% to obtain it if I believe what is said here https://www.mariowiki.com/Trunkle#Mario_&_Luigi:_Superstar_Saga. Is it because I am using the European version of the game? In advance if someone can enlighten me I thank him very much

This TAS is very well done and is for my part very entertaining. I like it ! I have however a small restraint on the chosen category, it would work very well for an RTA but a version without the warps would have been more judicious, however I still give my yes vote and hoping that you can offer us other TAS coming from this game.

Nice improvements, very good first TAS. Just a question, what are the goals to complete the game at 100%?

Hmm. Sounds like I was a bit hasty with my assumptions---and unobservant, after a second watch I see many points where a stage is selectable in the older run that isn't on the newer, indicating that a different path was indeed taken. I apologize for that. The old run is purely for comparing each stage. One area I can see a comparison for where the old run did many more stages is W4. The Head Smash Helmet is obtained in E2, which is never even played in the new run. It makes it feel very strange to even show a comparison if there really isn't any. E6 however still seems weirdly done as neither lifts the frog up via that power-up. New run: The Pneumos/Jellybobs (the jellyfish thing that inflates Wario when it stings) stings Wario in the right area of the stage so that Wario floats to the top and gets the Silver/Gray Key. Old run: Wario bashes into the wall to jump up again, gets the Silver/Grey Key, and then proceeds as normal. Is a power-up needed to do that wall jump in the old run? It's the more powerful bash, do you need to ricochet off the wall to do that specific jump?
In the old version: The gray key in level E6 is obtained thanks to a wall-jump high enough to obtain the key (and that thanks to the High Jump Boots obtained in the green chest of level E4) In the new version: High Jump Boots are not collected because the green chest of level E4 is no longer required, which means that Wario cannot reach the gray key at level E6 with a simple Wall-jump and so he uses a jellyfish

First post here. Long time lurker. Very long time. Anyway... I know ISMin's run was mentioned above but here it is in case anyone wants to see it again since it was (formerly, anyway) nicovideo-only: Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXRG9oi-as8 Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LPSL20INnM It's obviously far better than an RTA but the optimization is really, really poor. I didn't calculate offhand but I think the run on the right (which is what he's comparing his run to?) is actually faster because there's simply too many points where ISMin's run is dawdling or glitching pointlessly. E6 is a great example in Part 2, but there's many others. However, it seems to have a lot of commentary if anyone here can read Japanese? I saw a user here named Fortranm had a WIP earlier in the thread but it doesn't seem to have gotten (much?) past that point. Wario Land 3 is such an amazing game and it's the only Wario Land game to not feature a TAS here. :( I wish there was something I could contribute to a possible run but I'm really not good at TASing, especially action games like this, and I'm not particularly skilled with programming either so glitch finding or .lua scripting would be out. I could find videos of other TASes like the above ISMin one but I don't think that's a rare skillset, haha.
The run being compared is an older version of TAS that ISM had performed before. The right run had a time of 56:51.22 ISM's TAS in 56:51.22 : - Part 1 - Part 2 Then, this run is actually faster because it avoids the Head Smash Helmet in level E2 and which therefore allows you to recover the second music box more quickly thanks to an OOB glitch at level W4. As for level E6, The route is different in the new version of TAS because ISM did not collect Super Jump Slam Overalls which is in the gray chest at level Castle of Illusions (E3), which does not allow you to be able to raise the giant frog to level E6.

Hello. I am a newcomer. SMB1 is my favorite game to play and I wanted to contribute in finding quirks and time saves in it. Independently discovering cheat $05F5 : C2 and being unable to explain the insanity that it is made me join tasvideos.org. Please help me learn more about this game. Also, how can I share movie files with others in the forum?
Hello redatchyon2098 and welcome to TASvideo. To reply to this message, I would redirect you to this page: http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/NES/SuperMarioBros.html You will find there all the necessary information concerning various glitch or other techniques. Then it's good that you are interested in finding new techniques but for a game that has reached such a level of perfection as Super Mario Bros, it remains something quite complicated. In any case, do not hesitate to refer to the various movies that have been published here : Warps, Warpless, Walkathon, All Item, Max. Coins and if you embark on a TAS, share your journey as much as possible in order to have various constructive opinions (and also cheats are not allowed for publication).

Sorry to return on this old publication but I asked myself a question, should not this TAS be categorized as "all levels" ?

Lots of very interesting things and funny to see how broken this game can be. Are you working on a 100% run or do you planning to do this on the futur ? And would it be better to run it on GBC or GB for faster execution ?

For my part, I think the musical coins should get a different category. Like the any% or the time-attack. It's a bit like Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. the 100% should contain in a single race the "challenge" mode, "you vs boo", have all the banners, etc. But the races are currently separated.

Very good WIP, can not wait to see the finished project. Have you included improvements from level 1-3 and 1-7 to your TAS ?

I already said this in a chat, but I'll repeat it here just for reference: Of course I agree this glitchfest is entertaining so far (seriously, watch it, it has some neat ideas). However, especially this run will get repetitive really fast. Almost every level starts with the usual combination of Yoshi, Feather, and Flower. This is obviously the setup that allows for the most glitches (or rather, the most glitchy ones), which probably allows for the most effective glitchfest. But here's the point, the author intends to continue to do all 96 exits. Considering the pace is pretty slow (spending 3 minutes only in the first level), we're looking at a 2.5-3 hour movie. It's very hard (maybe impossible) to keep up the entertainment like this while avoiding repetition. (This wouldn't really be a problem if he decides to quickly proceed to Bowser and end it at around the 1 hour mark) However, there is another way to approach this problem. Instead of focusing on a glitchfest, focus on a playaround. By changing up the challenge in each level, you could create a long movie which stays entertaining, and also shows off interesting things no other run can show off. My personal ideas are:
  • Try an entertaining playaround in the level while staying Small Mario.
  • Get all the items and coins.
  • Try beating the level without jumping.
There are definitely other things you can do instead of using the stun glitch in every level and create glitchy sprites, and it would be a shame if those wouldn't be shown off.
Many glitchfests on the site are repetitive... I think it's very interesting to show the limit that can present this game. The performance levels are still done pretty fast, 20 minutes for 2 worlds. I do not feel that even when doing all the outings, it will last 3 hours ... It's hard to argue, already because I do not speak English, but also because, like many people (I guess), I finally want to see a glitchfest of this game. Just like SMB3 had his TAS. Even using the same process of glitches at the beginning of the levels, IgorSantos is very good at showing something amazing and varied every time. Even having already watched many glitches on this game, many people might still be surprised at what awaits them. And after all, if it is possible to accept any% TAS of more than 5 hours or even TAS containing more than 5 or 6 categories as is the case with SMB. Why not accept a SMW "glitchfest" ? It is a category so little highlighted. Even if it had to last more than 2 hours why not ! I encourage you IgorSantos777 ! Continue this beautiful TAS, it's very technical, difficult and I hope you will bring this project to an end.
