We're currently at a slump with Idol Springs fishes trying to get a good time for that, after we got a good time, Idol Springs will be completed probably within a day or two. So expect a WIP by at least next Saturday for Glimmer, Colossus, and Idol Springs.

Probably the official response will be 'no, it is not an official version of the game', but I want an amazing spyro TAS badly and I'd love to see the rules bent on this one.
I talked with Crash on skype about this yesterday and there are points to be made, such as the fact that the Cheetahmen II run uses a hacked version of the game. I realize I'm not an official, but from the best standpoint, in my opinion, as long as you are able to get through the game on the original version (whenever the emulator is able to play back the original without it doing the copyright protection stuffsz) with the hacked versions movie inputs, and nothing is changed aside from the copyright protection, then by all means should it not be allowed?

Honestly, I'd 'loosely' consider it a glitch. More of a trick really since you "trick" the game into thinking you're walking instead of running. Really just manipulation tactics instead of glitching. Typical people would not even notice it, I don't think at least, if it's frame perfect and all. Then again, I'm positive it's not something the developers intended... ehh yeah you get the point :p hopefully. Although, entertainment wise, for me at least, the more battles the better, as long as you don't repeat enemies encountered over and over.

About the only people who would vote no would be people who honestly dislike Resident Evil games (or post 4 games) no matter the optimization. :)

Incredible! Especially Orient Express! Are you the one who made that video? (My Japanese, despite being a huge anime fan, is very bad) -- I assume not as your logo is not on there, but I figure to ask anyway. Also is there any differences between ntsc U and J ?

With recurring internet problems here lately -- even so bad that my favorite pass time hobby (watching youtube videos, basically all forms, including TAS's uploaded on there) has become impossible to crave as videos load slower than a snail going around the world (exaggeration sure, but it seems like it :/) -- it's excited me slightly that this would not be a rip off of the SNES Family Fued and yet have a story this time around. Interesting concept, but back on to my point, the little bit I could load of this (about 3 mins of the run) was interesting as I said earlier in the sentence lol, but the game is just... bad. To me, it feels like it's not worth my time letting the run load all the way through to watch it (which normally would not be a problem, but I'm on a borderline dial up connection for a few days until they fix this)... I'd let it in for a vault thing if this could be an exception, always exceptions for certain things and it definitely will entertain someone if they can bear to wait out the time between answering (or story telling) -- but it's not entertaining me. It's not the story, as I'm sure it's interesting from what I can wager... Just the game. For your time invested and for the interesting concept, I'll give it a meh.

Updated original posts with new information and cleaned it up to look nice. No real progress has been made in a while, but new tricks are being found every now and then. If the gulp skip (or skip to gulp really) is not found soon (as in a month or two), I might as well give up for now on finding it and start the real run when summer vacation begins. But finding it has been a priority of this run in general for a while now with the finding of the early super-flame. It'd save a lot of time and it would be a pain to find a method to make it possible half way through the TAS, or even near the end. I've spent roughly 200-300 or so hours since about 9 months ago trying to find how this would be possible.. with no luck. Progress will be slow of course either way.

Would PJ64 1.6 or 1.7 be worth your time, if we could legally get the source for them, Rachel?
Hmm, i don't know. Maybe. I think for me to do it myself, it'd need to be for an emulator significantly better than mupen, and i'm not so sure pj64 1.6 is. On the other hand, it'd probably be a good learning experience for me, so, i don't know.
Well, speaking from my personal experience with 1.6... The games I play aren't very far in range of a lot of others personal favorites. Ocarina of time, Majora's Mask, Super Mario 64, Conker, Diddy Kong Racing, and Super Smash Bros., for example. Using Mupen for these games versus PJ64 1.6 basically gives the same results (pause lag fixed in oot with plugin settings). Conker though gave 60fps with 1.6 against mupen giving 30fps with 60VI/s (Just figured worth mentioning). So really, they aren't that far apart in being better than one another (at least to me, ... I realize mupen is bad though) The people who are working on the URA Zelda restoration project are making their own emulator just to be able to play URA Zelda whenever it is finished as they mentioned the current emulators are pretty bad/inaccurate and what not. I do figure that would be a good emulator to put the tools on (if they allow it of course, but I don't see why not) -- problem is, they're releasing the emulator and URA Zelda together .. who knows when that could be. For n64, I really would just like to make play-around tases of Majora's Mask (for youtube I guess), and I'd be happy enough. Mupen is too desync prone for my patience, I'd take an improvement over mupen, even if not much better.

It's a tradeoff for entertainment purposes. On one hand, you get the kick-ass "fastest time" TAS, but large swaths of it are a black screen. "What's going on?" the public asks. "Well, the character has moved out of bounds and is currently navigating beneath level geometry," is the answer. On the other hand, you have the "hacked" version in which the viewer can see exactly what is going on behind the blackened screen--Link is swimming/running/hopping around beneath the level geometry. "But this is a hack! It's not a true console-accurate TAS!" the purists exclaim. There is no winning argument.
More or less it can (loosely) be compared to how some encodes won't have cutscenes... I'd rather see wireframe or visual hacks than a black screen with sounds. Do whatever makes it faster, can have multiple encodes with different settings to please everyone if it's that a huge necessity :P

I did the very same test when I casted my vote and people still bitching about the ending. Why everyone is so skeptic and super intelligent when they can't press one button (maybe 2 if you use a mouse)? please make a memory corruption rule so I don't need to read these posts
Technically speaking, from a pokemon standpoint at least... The games usually end after beating the champion, going through the doors to hall of fame, hall of fame scene, and then the credits play. It's a normal in memory corruption runs to skip the champion part and still activate the hall of fame (at which the input could have generally done ended already I believe??). This run does activate a rather glitched version of the hall of fame, presumably from having no unglitched pokemon(?). It's interesting yes, does it complete the game? ... Kind of. Does it actually get you from Point A (start of game) to end of game (Point B) ... No. It does not even show the credits if the encode is all that is within this movie. Unfortunately, from saying that.. I would say this movie technically fails to even beat the game as it does not show the credits at all. Play around tases are exceptions of course, but this isn't one. Hard decision from a judge pov but this would be my case if I was one. :/

It's Youtube. Gotta love it, but gotta hate it. Probably the whole 30fps stuff and how it counts movie frames.. If you ever go find 10 hour video loops of something, you'll notice a lot of them are 9:59:59 or 10:00:01 instead of flat on 10:00:00.

I really doubt it. Movies are constantly added to this site, so torrent would have to be constantly updated, not to mention it would be an incredibly huge file size after downloading all of it. If you wanted -all- of them, you'd get outdated movies as well. If you want just the regular publications that are ones showcased on the movie page, you can download the mkv files via torrent. From a general standpoint, being able to download a lot at once is nice... But at the same time, it would be very hard to keep updated with the way this site works.

I definitely agree to voting yes on this, as well as voting to obsolete le publication here. They're both great in each others own way. Taking into account the movies themselves, instead of the pi references :p ... The current publication (see above) takes way too long in my opinion to get its result compared to this one. I will say that it was more mind blowing than this one, but that was because it was the first time I/we have ever seen something like that. Not to mention, we have dancing pi symbols. Que pi: πππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππππ

I agree Mario should just have: -100% -any% -small only (and -1 world for SMB) This "no power-ups" stuff shouldn't exist. Also since you did no power up 1-1 can be improved, not stating how because I repeat, this branch doesn't deserve to exist.
Seconded. Although... You got to admit, the crazy capless/cannonless/etc stuff in Sm64 is kinda the exception. Not for publication, just for entertainment wise. Although, I'll refrain from voting until encode is up... You never know if you'll see some crazy kind of stuff that isn't shown off in other runs of the same game.

For a GBC color, I suppose the graphics are "alright", just alright, and nothing more :P. The music is really annoying (and I'm someone who can listen to generally annoying songs on repeat), and doesn't seem to change all that much between different levels for the tone/beat wise side of things until later levels. The minigame between levels is repetitive (now this wouldn't be all that big of a deal in normal gameplay, but for speedruns that's bad, and for TASes it's even worse since we know you won't miss). And overall, this just looks like a game I'd play if I was completely bored, and had nothing else to play. Generally, I think it helps if people know who Lucky Luke is so they can appreciate this more. I can praise the graphic style for what it is, but... I do want to state that comparing a PSX game to a GBC game is kind of silly, but the PSX version is so much better. The auto-scroll levels make it pretty boring compared to what the PSX version does in the same situation. Though these of course are not your fault, and I just wanted to state that even from this point... I'd classify this as a bad game choice. Now for the run itself, for 30 minutes 15k rerecords doesn't seem like all that much so I'd like to ask how optimized is this in general? Also, I'm probably being distracted by how bad I feel the game is, but the playing seems kind of bland. Of course, from that generally harsh overview I just gave (lol sorry about it sounding harsh), I'm going to vote no for entertainment. Oddly, I still feel this should be published though for the vault only.

But what about Gimli... :-(
Gimli? I redid Chapter 4-1, and managed to save 13 seconds by buying a rocket launcher. I may redo the end portion with Verdugo, because it might be faster to grab the shotgun ammo on the way to the first switch rather than after using the RL. Grabbing the ammo before using the RL forces the ammo into the lower right corner of my inventory, thus saving about 15 frames so I won't have to move it around my inventory. I'll loose many frames though by grabbing it while running around that turn, cause I'll be hitting the walls. Link to video
I'm assuming he meant Gimli from the Lord of the Rings :p (mines, dwarf, drawf, mines... Since you may skip the mines if possible). Only improvement would be to 1 hit kill both at the same time.. Since you said (below) that you tried hundreds of times and still couldn't manage it.. It could be simply the way the game is interpreting your health/ammo/current weapon/accuracy rate (if it counts that)/etc... You definitely hit both of them, so moving the shot shouldn't matter. Maybe not killing them both at once could have uses elsewhere where you can save time?

From the left or right side when you hop down? If it's on the left, I doubt it is faster, but on the right I'm sure it would save several seconds.
If you mean this spot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GqDlOvf4vw (go to 10:24.. then after you watch that bit skip to 11:20); it could save time.. I've known about that spot for years after watching a video showing the out of bounds items in that area. I couldn't be for sure if it will save but everything is worth testing. That video has some interesting stuff that you may or may not know already if you care to take a look at it.

Hey, that's a well known (well uhh for the most part) skip ... Speaking on that note, if you still need any money for whatever reason there's an extra 50k, which is something that SoulCal/myself could have forgot to remember/mention.

"Fastest stage 3" is like someone doing a fastest "World 8" run in SMB. It's an arbitrary goal and there's no real reason to stop on Stage 3 if there are more stages afterwards. It's like you gave up on going any further because it got harder. No.
It's far from like that... SMB has an ending, as far as I'm aware this one doesn't. I assume they stopped after level 3 simply because the levels had no real variation compared to the first 3 levels (or it just simply repeated over and over). "The run is only of the first three stages, because the game doesn't really change anymore after stage 3, it only gets a bit faster. " Even if it's harder by being faster, there needs to be a cut off point, we'd see less actions being done and more waiting around. If that's the case, then this isn't all that arbitrary, more on for entertainment if you ask me... Which I should note, this is very boring after the first level. It's not the run but the game, so I'll vote meh as it's not your fault, but I'm sure others will enjoy it.

This is what was in my head the entire time watching that WIP encoded by Nahoc (yes I'm terribly late but I just now found it). Are you still interested in working on this or have you been working on it a lot since the last postings? It's definitely something I'd be interested in after seeing this, not to mention all the stuff Cosmo has shown about this, I'm sure more people would love to watch it! If that helps for motivation.

oh hoh hoh.. We know the memes concerning Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series are coming here. Firstly, I'm watching as we speak but I've been up all night so probably wont finish for a while. Secondly, had no idea you were even doing this TAS .. I'd thought about picking it up before but figured it'd be pretty repetitive (but what do I know .. if you think about it all games are repetitive).. I'll just stick to spyro for now. I'll offer my complete inputs when I'm done finished below; Do hope to not be disappointed. :) Edit: Okay, watched it all. Loved it but was a bit repetitive.. Still entertaining and considering the way this game is meant to be played I'll give it a yes.

I'll be waiting for updates on this as well from the developers. Not that PSXJin doesn't do the job in most cases; but I mean.. the more accurate emulation is, the better. Valve time, ehh? :( *tsk tsk* (BizHawkPSX sounds pretty nice for a name). Though even though I mainly TAS psx games (which is usually just a hobby.. nothing meant for publication or even for someone else to view in most cases) -- I would say that what needs the most up-to-date emulation, would be the nintendo 64 (Mupen just sucks) .. And to me that should be a priority over the psx version (and I'd be willing to wait if n64 was picked up first :D)
