*claps* Coleco kinda rolls of your tongue :P .. Good music too here. I can't say for the game itself was personally amazing but considering what you did here looks rather amazing (I've never played this game), I'll go with a ye.

I rolled my eyes thinking erm? Waiting for something to happen the entire time. Once the hex showed up on the screen I was like "is that it?!, how could this be accepted!" .. When the balloons came I was like "hmm???!" ... My little pony theme came on and I instantly started laughing :p needless to say I enjoyed it; and also needless to say I didn't read the submission text first cause I wanted to be surprised since I seen people talking about this!

Just wanted to say we will be making a "Test run TAS" of the complete route without major optimization coming within the month (expect it as a teaser Christmas present?). Although it wont have major optimization it will look great regardless. Can expect the full TAS itself within the first 3 or 4 months of 2013, hopefully :p.

It is, but I think you're going to have a language issue that will somewhat limit yes votes.
First of all, snorlax... You won't have a problem with the language issue on wind waker -- if you want to watch a run for it's text go and watch a let's play. If people vote no/meh just for the text that zips by anyway, they don't even need to be on this site. Just my two cents. Secondly, Abahbob: Wind waker is pretty popular yes, but runs that could be good candidates for TAS of the year for next year that will probably come up in 2013 are: * Wind Waker TAS * Metroid Prime TAS * Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage 100% TAS * Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon TAS (only if BizHawkPSX comes out though) * Crash Bandicoot 3 TAS * Yoshi's Island 100% TAS * Biohazard 4 TAS (Resident Evil 4) -- If Soulcal is still doing it? * Final Fantasy 7 TAS (one could only hope though) * Final Fantasy Tactics TAS * Superman 64 TAS Maybe I'm just listing the amazing things that'll come out in 2013 though :)

Does anyone have an opinion on opening the cd tray (in order to potentially skip large amounts of the game)? Specifically it will allow cloud to act as a golden chocobo and travel around the map with relative ease. In the instance of the emulator I'm using, I will have to load a dummy ISO. Edit: To clarify, I'm not asking about publication and whether it will be accepted. I'm asking whether opening the cd tray is deemed "legit" or not. I've already used the emerald countdown glitch in a weird way, so my initial argument for not opening the cd tray is waning.
Hmm, you could relate opening the CD tray to crooked Cartridges (N64 namely but probably all cartridges); Using ocarina of time as an example, that was the first way they found to escape the forest before deku tree, and it was deemed unacceptable as "legit". Here's a quote concerning SDA: "Why do you allow glitches but disallow cheat codes and tricks like crooked cartridge? Using glitches is simply trying to use whatever is within the rules of the game to your advantage. When you use a cheat device or outside alteration, then you're breaking the game's rules. As for cheat codes and debug codes, they differ from glitches in being intentionally programmed, so they are naturally outside the rules of the game as defined by the designers. " Outside alteration being messing with the cart/CD while not offering inputs via the controller. So personally, it's not legit. But, just because it isn't legit doesn't mean it wont be entertaining. The GT code for super metroid was deemed unlegit and I found it very entertaining (although probably a weird reference since it was just a debug code and not messing with the game outside of input) :p. I'd look forward to it if you decide to use it.

TAS of the year ^_^
Not that this movie isn't very impressive, astronomical to take on, and overall amazing... But if another SM64 gets TAS of the year/an award like N64 tas of the year or something, I'm going to lose faith in aiming about branching to more games instead of just the favorites (Zelda, Mario, and the like). Overall though, obviously a yes :p

I'm currently doing a new game+ kind of thing now. Aiming purely for speed. Link to video
Personally, I think as long as you have the verification movie up to disc 2 to where you fight emerald, then do the glitch .. It could be accepted. I'd hop in the irc and ask an admin about it since it's kinda a strange case. Regardless, I look for updates on this even if you make it purely for fun :)

Hey now, I quite enjoyed Crash's very artistic paint picture :) OT: I've never fully tested myself what is fully the fastest, mostly because there is always faster routes being found and kinda kills my motivation til i know what the fastest route is fully, for that I usually just check up on rta runs P:.. Okay I got FFTactics on my computer again, but my PSXJin is being rather buggy.. even before I updated it with his config file. Idk why, I'm going to redownload Jin later, hopefully that fixes it. I'll help figure out how to manipulate rng for criticals and all that later.

Now that the rules for acceptance seem to be changing, I suppose a run like my unassisted Calculator run would get accepted after all (unless I'm misinterpreting the changes that are being made). Maybe I should learn how to TAS and do it myself...
Nope you completely understood the changes. However, unless it's entertaining it'd end up in the Vault Tier (lowest tier) -- Vault is runs which purely run for game speed completion (and honestly, even if Calculator might seem "dull" .. it's actually pretty cool to have them annihilate everything in 1-2 turns haha). Mostly I think alot of us are just waiting on the next PSX emulator (BizHawkPSX) to come out.. Also, the change of the configuration file makes it seem a bit fishy as to whether it'd be accepted or not, even if it is just a way to get around the guest bug that you have to do for PSXJin. I'll be willing to help you out on this some, but I can't make absolute promises. Have you been TASing this any already ?

Gelg Bolm, has something interesting in it. If you collect Moo* too early and hit Gelg quickly the opposite Moo will not go in contrast of delaying for a bit (letting Moo hitting the ground, grabbing it then hitting Gelg will allow the other Moo to go.... *Moos like a cow*). Because of the change it's possible to beat this boss in under a minute if optimized to perfection (I got 1 min dead, with 2 "hiccups" at the end, easy to fix). At hits 3 and 4 (when Gelg is in the air at first) grab a Moo from either left or right side and walk to the center. Depending on the side the non carried Moo is be on the same side allow Gelg to drop and hit it you'll realize Gelg goes to the opposite side you through which gives you full access to reach the other Moo before "Jumping off the cliff". The final form (after hit 4) make sure a Moo has come down, grab it, allow the big ball to inflate and jump on it, a worthy damage abuse to use as if you didn't use it Moo would've gone and you'd have to wait for another. This allows an earlier hit on Gelg as well as you're not waiting around. The Wii version is different and I'm not going to explain unless someone asks. *This is Moo
Neat find. And no need to really discuss the Wii version since you're talking about the PSX version; But hey I wouldn't mind seeing a Wii version TAS either :D

Thanks for that, I searched for it but couldn't find it so I just said to look up the people... But it's not necessarily about just knowing the times but knowing what to do; hence why I said to search for their actual runs.

We've moved this discussion over to Skype actually. It's not dead. The routes listed on this page are very outdated. I wouldn't mind any help on it, but with small time savers always being found it's hard to just up and do it knowing you will immediately have to redo a part over and over. You'll be sure to want to check out this video first ... It was the major find that completely rewrote the route. Link to video That saves a whopping 6 minutes (at the very least). You'll want to also check out the many RTA (Real Time Attack) speedruns by the group of spyro players, not just the world record one. To make it simple, don't got to SDA -- it's run is slow compared to today's routes. You'll also want to check out Crash41596, SSBMstuff, Cyprys, and possibly others (who's names I forget haha) nevertheless you'll find the usual people who do things like rta on twitch.tv and SpeedRunsLive. I believe any% WR is 0:28'26"37 for non TAS. Lapogne's TAS on any% is really outdated too. Just to get a heads-up I think the 100% WR is around 2:15 but knowing me that's probably wrong, and I believe that in that they didn't use the early super flame (so estimated tas time is like 2:05).

These flags being things like "Stars" "Moons" "Vault" "AVGN" "Console Verified" and "Notable Improvement"? If I've understood this right? In advance I do hope I understood this right :) I think easier organization on the main movie pages for the consoles/handhelds/arcades/etc themselves in the blank area (note the red): http://i48.tinypic.com/dzxm2u.jpg Could be used for things like "Show only stars" "Show only Moons" "Show only Vault" "Show only console Verified" and etc. That image was made on the NES TAS list on the site. That could help filter the list down for people who want to watch only NES TAS for example. -- Flags I'd like to see?: - "Crowd Favorites" = Games that people know basically around the world, ones where you can't hardly go anywhere with people saying I don't know what that game is. Games like Zelda or Mario. But That would be more based on the game itself and not reflect the TAS so that's a hard call... Especially if someone wanted to do a TAS of a bad game in a franchise (Superman 64 anyone?). With the abolition of the "bad game choice" rule too; that's an even harder call. - "Flags by Genre" = These flags could show the genre of a game by what it's most based on heavily. Ofcourse if this was used it'd require something like a drop down box for convience. Flag icons could range from survival horror showing a zombie or a rpg showing a chocobo head.

I definitely think entertaining shouldn't be the only deciding factor: there are a lot of movies of excellent quality that don't get accepted because they're repetitive or dull, but they're still good examples of TAS. Now, is this basically the tier sistem you're suggesting? I understand it this way: -Star: best movies in the site, highlights. -Moon: entertaining movies (though not of star quality). -Vault: pure speed runs, regardless of everything else.
Yeah, pretty much. But it's based on ratings too from how I'm taking it (?), so I guess a run could technically hop in and out of a tier. -- Also, with this new system it seems like every run is now "notable" in some way... I guess cause It'll take some time to get used to it. I noticed a little lightning bolt picture beside some TAS's (is that now the new determination of notable?)

Ever wanted to save in the Northern Cave but still keep the Save Crystal? Well, now you can! HOW TO The trick to copying your Save Crystal is combining the Paralysis Dodge Glitch with Clouds ability to open chests from afar. The topmost chest on the 3rd field of the Left-Down path can be opened on the same frame as Cloud jumps down from the ledge above it, and when Cloud lands both menu and movement will be enabled, even if the message "received X-Potion!" is still open. With this setup, since closing the X-Potion message will enable movement, Cloud's movement will remain enabled when you select the Save Crystal from the menu. Now, you won't be able to move whenever there is a Choice present in a textbox, but you will be able to move as soon as the Choice is made (as opposed to having to wait for the textbox to close). Fortunately the game places the Save Point first, it then removes the Save Crystal, and normally both happen before you can move, but thanks to the paralysis dodge movement comes early and you can exit the field before the Save Crystal ever is removed (which also happens to cancel the removal altogether). Now, while this trick may not have an apparent use in a TAS someone might always figure something out in the future, and either way it's a neat trick that might interest some people regardless. Video: http://youtu.be/s9rlydCVFTs
Neat :p, sounds about right to interest me but yet I always get scared to save in Northern Cave because of the save glitch there.

So wouldn't it have been a better idea to have simply made the movie with no memory card present?
The game does not sync correctly if there is no save file. ^ I take it that is why. It might be something that changes/messes up otherwise.. Afterall even if some GC TAS's are possible, dolphin is very desyncable as an emulator, not saying that that's a reason he didn't start from power on or anything... Just saying why I can understand the reason for the whole provided save file thing. But yet... You could have just made the run without a memory card present or does it not sync from power on gamerfreak?

My mistake for making my intentions unclear - I'm not aiming to submit a TAS to this site, so when I have recorded playthroughs of other games in the past, I have usually split it up into pieces linked by savestates (that's just what I'm used to). I've never made one giant movie that spans an entire game before. Thanks for the tips, and I'll check out that link. It sounds like that is the only way to make FFT record properly anyway! And I'm guessing it'll work :)
If I'm not mistaken, whenever you try to record movies from savestate/with memory cards or just savestates in general.. they don't work too well on PSXjin. and do make sure you are recording the movie file BEFORE you open the actually iso up otherwise it'll just look messed up or alot of things like characters will be transparent/gone completely. Also... about memory cards. PSXJin on movies atleast, has temporary memory cards to be used with movies, and they don't work with saving/loading =p atleast in my experience. For example, FF7 .. You make a save file from a save menu.. Close Jin, reopen.. Try to load, it's gone.

Brilliant indeed I nevert thought of using another emulator bios to get the game to work. Sadly, I wont be able to test this out for a few weeks. But thanks for figuring out a solution, and surely it's accepted as it looks like you played normal speed and everything on playback :) I'd be willing to help out but not til a few weeks from now when I can get a new computer. I'm actually replying to this comment at school on their computers at the moment.

What? HOW? Everytime we have tried to TAS this game, it just stops at Gafs first turn since he's a guest and the guest ai script halts, and doesn't load.. Movie or not. How exactly did you get this working? If you're using the NTSC version that's probably the same version we're trying out? Did you modify settings or anything like that??
