Sorry, thought I remembered Kainazzo being 3000 hp. Just wonder if any robes you can pick up will influence the range enough (say, in Baron town or Mysidia)
I'm very shocked you can't manipulate a Lit-3 oneshot kill for Kainazzo... it's not like Tellah levels at all even in a normal run enough for that to make a big difference. Would his equipment give a Magic Attack multiplier big enough to do it?
There are no instant boss kills in this game. The route is about 95% tested, just a couple things I need to test near the end of the game.
Well, you can almost call the Weak cast on Dark Dragon (and is there one more?) an instant kill. It will probably only take you one shot of Lit-3 for Kainazzo as well, I'd imagine.
Will you be taking a similar route to the SDA version - IE, skipping Sealed Cave, and almost exclusively levelling in the Giant? Will you get the Crystal Sword?
Just watched the whole thing, very very enjoyable. I don't know why people are complaining about the restarts and the pause so much, they detract very little from the enjoyment imho.
I never actually finished this one (although I'm half tempted to dig the GBA cartridge out now), so I'll be watching this thread carefully.
I'm curious as to later game strategies. Twin magic seems very useful and powerful, as well as Teliah's Recall. I'm just hoping there isn't anything as game breaking as L5 Death or Roulette in this game... as much as I enjoyed those runs and as good as they are, I prefer to see bosses die without the use of instakills ^_^
Tellah doesn't get Recall in this version, and I doubt any of the characters will level high enough for Stone.
It also looks like in 7-2C you're waiting for a platform for a while instead of using Invincible Fire Wheel and wall-jumping through spikes. It looks like you could IFW, grab the Red Energy, and wallclimb faster than waiting.
The only part of the wall you can grab in 7-2C is the electricity-free section on the left, and that doesn't really get you anywhere useful.[/quote]
Tested it out, looks like even with IFW you can't hold onto electricity-walls :(
Good work, voting yes.
I notice you sort of backtrack to get an extra 10 ninja points near the end of stage 3, but don't use them on the boss, reasoning?

Wondering on one thing. Would killing your last 20 ninja points in Stage 6 save you any frames? Cause it does have to count them down.
Answered above, but I'll be more specific: In this game, they count down at the same time as Timer ticks, so unless you had more ninja points than time, it wouldn't be a factor.
I thought that my best chance of getting some decent comments on my first run was to make run of a not so famous game, cause the better and more famous the game, the higher are the expectations.
Shooting candles in this game triggers the shooting animation which stops the guy for 18 frames, that's quite a reason not to shoot, huh.
In the pirate level, taking damage makes it possible to walk through the last skeleton shot and save some frames.
With the candle shooting, I was referring to shooting them midair, but I went and checked it in the game and it does appear you can lose some acceleration (about 3-4 frames worth) when you do. Still, at certain points in the Mansion you're waiting on platforms to arrive, thus character speed isn't an issue.
I see your point on the Pirates damage, good work.
Not too bad, it really seems like there's a lot of lag frames whenever you jump or there's a lot of enemies on screen. Since firing candles in the ghost house doesn't slow you down, why not kill some enemies?
Also, I'm not sure why you chose to get hit in Pirates, it didn't look like a damage boost.
Check out http://speeddemosarchive.com/Mario1.html - it has a video that claims to be 5:00 (By my count, it looks more like 5:04) but that's still short of the TAS record 5:07. Why doesn't the TAS use glitched pipes like this version - is it only present in SMB+Duck Hunt ROM?
SDA timing ignores the title screen, hence shorter time.
I don't know where you got 5:07, because the actual TAS record time is 4:59.93 as shown here: http://tasvideos.org/374M.html (includes title screen).
Sorry, must've had a reaaaaaaally old TAS file saved...

Loved watching this TAS. Two concerns:
1) You say 100% kills, but you skipped two of the levels. I wouldn't expect you to play the optional Truck level, of course.
2) I'm surprised at your choice of plane for the last two levels. Wouldn't having the level 6 Vulcan kill the bosses faster, or does it make no difference?
you can most definitely teleport somehow into the middle of square lake, I am by no means an expert at this game but I know I didn't fight 20-30 groups of monsters on the way in there.
I definitely thought I remembered being able to pick up the fairy itself, and not have to wait for the bracelet to drop, but for someone who's done this much research, I doubt I'm right.
Nope.
A bomb causes 30 damage to Queen, a missile 1 (She has 150).
A bomb, however, takes ~250 frames before it takes effect, while 30 missiles can be fired in 60 frames (Queen have no invulnerability time).
How many bombs can you lay at once? Sounds like the missile kill is 300 frames at best.
