I voted no. There are some nice moves in this video, but it can be done a lot better. For example: * you end with more than 100 shurikens, but you still took long detours to get extra, wasting a lot of time. * in the trap house you went out of your way to pick up an extra jutsu, and then you didn't use it. huh? * a lot of the sub-bosses are pretty slow. Some simple testing revealed that there are several seconds of improvement here. * you don't start running as early as possible when you land. This is visible even at 100% speed. * sometimes before you land you have no horizontal speed. * corner cuts are pretty bad at some spots * you dont detonate the bombs as soon as possible in the electric demon level. But don't give up, try again! I'm also thinking of doing this game and some competition would be great. For anyone wondering, the fire and suicide jutsus seem to be the same strength. The suicide jutsu doesn't consume jutsu points, only extra lives. But you still need to have a jutsu point to perform it.

I'm pretty sure the makers of most games didn't intend for people running trough them and beating the bosses in just a few seconds. So that makes speed running cheating, I guess.

Go for the speed. It's only this once, and as opposed to the other contrieved moves you mentioned, like turning back and forward every other frame, it actually serves a purpose. So I think it's alright. That is, unless you find some other spot for saving 6 frames.

I remember using ED209. It's probably a bit old by now, but i remember it being a huge step up from DoomCAD. I think I have lost all my maps in the spacetime continuum though. :(

This sounds very good! :D One problem I've recently found is that when paused, other layers of text are displayed on top of the 'emulation paused' text, making them unreadable. Is that easily fixed?

For the sub-10 minutes, what race are you using? What races are the other 7? Which is your starting position? Just curious. I'm not good enough to do this either. But I'd love to watch it.

Aha, I understand. Those and only those? How about the extra enemy boosts which you could have gotten with better enemy placement, for example in the first castle you visit, level 3?

Well, most old videogames are Japanese, and they (traditionally) read from right to left... nowadays they have both variants.

>It is not a bad random since it's predeterminated. Again you can check it by yourself. Didn't you affect randomization before? Like enemy placement and bomb refills? I think your submission said something like that. Why is it impossible in this particular screen?

I have some comments on the new run, most of it are variations on the same theme: it doesn't seem like you use enemy boosting as much as you could. For example, in the first castle you have lost half a heart and pick up a heart at 1:00. You could have been hit twice and still had full life. When you pick up the floater in the same castle, you have one heart left, so you could have taken one more boost. Then again when you pick up the first triforce piece, you have full life. You will get a refill anyway, so why not use it? These kinds of things are everywhere. There's some bad random too where you have to wait a lot, for example at 15:57. All in all it's a big improvement though.

>The only one of the spells which might be useful is Power Up, and I consider its only real gain (increased range) neglegtible. Most FAQs (and I think Warp, too) say that it also makes the diskarmor stronger, meaning that you could do more robots in less time. But perhaps this is not true, and all it does is increase range. Have you tested? >Edit: Forgot to mention - Rygar's falling speed does not accelerate wildly. It's almost constant speed. I understand, and you're probably right, but in this case checking would be so easy, just time the first frame of the game over screen. What if? >Only by jumping. You can't walk and shoot at the same time. Jumping pauses you for a fraction of second, so I didn't do it. I see, but that fraction should be much less time/tone than for example the two turtles earlier.

I have some questions/suggestions (as usual) Isn't it possible to get double stars to beat up the robots faster? At 2:05, you go out of your way to kill two turtles. Isn't their experience very small compared to what you get at the robots anyway? What's that strange bug in the top-view world, where you jump and then immediately stand on the ground again? It happens for instance just after getting the grappling hook. When dying at 5:30, is it possible to jump to get more downward speed after the ledge? Maybe not... At 6:40, it looks like you could have nailed the dragon without losing any time. Although I don't understand it, I'm sure there's a good reason to wait before falling trough the floor on the right at 7:45-ish. I like being hit by the same shot twice at the next boss. :) Perhaps you could have used your only free hit to get pushed closer to the last boss at the very start. Now it looks like it's for nothing. That's all.

So are you doing this game or what? You seem to have it mapped out pretty good already.

>Jumping over the river is not possible in the USA version. In PAL, it's possible to just make it. Aaargh! So THAT'S why I never could perform that damned jump. :(

In my notes for my Japanese classes I have written:
Truncated's notebook wrote:
IMPERATIVE Posive statements: kaku -> kake taberu -> tabeyo/tabero suru -> shiyo/shiro kuru -> koi Negative statements: Verb in plain form + NA Examples: Aisukuriimu o taberuna! Sakana o tabeyo! Tetsuya ni denwa shite kuru. Boku no biiru o nomuna! Anata wa hoteru o yoyaku shite oite kureru to iimashita. Wasureruna yo!
This would make me pretty certain that I'm right, if it wasn't for Boco being on the other side. :/ I don't think this is the same NA as in "Kuso, komatta na..." Perhaps this is what you two are thinking of?

>I think the font you're transcribing this from is hard to read. Like the "aiai" thing is supposed to be "oioi", and now you have "shinjiku-to" and "assan" instead of "shinjike-to" and "ossan". Doh. *blushes* Or it could be that I'm a poor reader. My dictionary even has "oioi" and "ossan", when I look at the right place, so I guess I could have spared all of you the trouble. >And he could also be talking about people he likes rather than people he (yatsu = one step politer than yarou) doesn't so it might just be "those guys" or "you guys" instead of "those bastards".) You were right in this case. I only found the "guy, fellow, chap" meaning, which didn't make sense. >Konaide! I'm thinking it could also be "kuruna". But perhaps that wouldn't be used in a horror movie.

That page gives me Error 406 (that's a new one), but I suspect it's just IE acting up on me. I'll try it with a different browser at home.

Very good. Manages to get a lot of info into a small number of words. As a fan of time attacks I have to admire efficiency. :)

Boco, honyaku shite arigatou gozaimasu. Doushite nihongo ga dekiru ka? Nihonjin ja nai darou... Is "aiai" sort of demanding/expecting, or just an attention getter? --- FODA, renraku suru koto wa ii ka? FODA no aishikyuu (heh) no bangou to emeiru no adoresu ga shite iru. Sorede, Boco wa josei desu yo. Kamo shirenai. Kanojo ga jibun chotto shitenai... Boco, rataiga wo dashite kudasai. Bokura wa tasukeru yo! ;) --- xebra, I'm not really aiming to make a good presentable translation. I'm mainly doing it for fun, curiosity, and learning myself some Japanese while I'm at it. Curiosity because, well, the whole intro was removed in the US version, and a midgame cutscene too. So I'd like to know what this game is REALLY about. Thanks for the offer anyway. If you haven't played this game you should. :)

>Here's what Kakasi thinks. Hmm, that's just the romanization... I already know the pronounciation and have a rough translation. Basically I know what the individual words mean (except for aiai) but can't make sense out of the sentence. Who / what kind of program is Kakasi?

Yes, cinco, five in Spanish, is a lot like chinko, dick in Japanese. These things happen in all languanges... the word for "dot" in Swedish is "prick", for example... A lot of progress with the BK3 translation, I see.. :)

I remember not being able to beat the first level in this game, and not being able to finish it without the time running out with savestates. :/ Then again, maybe I just suck at this game.
