being a long-time watcher of these movies I just registered here to tell you that I appreciate any experiments towards superior and open standards. Don't be discouraged by those that do not wish to change or learn, changes have to be done to enhance oneself.
Aside from the obvious advantages in file size, traffic and video quality, picking a new codec and content format might enhance viewers' minds towards realizing there's more than Microsoft-stuff or even lead people like Saturn into learning something about video compression - a knowledge he might benefit from later, if he ever decides to use his DVD-Player for more than watching pre-made videos he downloaded off the net or got on DVD.
At least that's my definition of free software. It doesn't only make you free from bindings to software companies you're forced to trust, but it can also free your mind.
