Will it be trivial to optimally TAS, removing any competition?
I don't believe so or at least for Harvest Moon games where you need to go to sleep while manipulating the weather because this gives many possibilities. For Harvest Moon 3 GBC with the glitched days, first you need to pass all the dialogs at the beginning so nothing really competitive for optimisation. Then you need to wait 12 mins and there as well, not making the game lagging by our actions. Then the specific time arrive (midnight) with a 3 frames window to enter the building and then leaving/entering the building at the very first frame available and this for 8 more minutes. Then dialogs at the end, same thing as at the beginning... So for me it can then be considered as trivial. If you confirm then i'll stop trying to "entertain" this 12 mins right away and put the movie in userfiles as it is :>.

Hello, I was planning to TAS some Harvest Moon game as any% but for most of them, it means to pass as fast as possible all the days that the game let you before finishing the game. For most of them, it will just be going to bed as fast as possible. But there's one, Harvest Moon 3 GBC, that has a glitch which will let you passing days by entering thne leaving a certain building, but to be able to trigger the glitch, you need to wait 12 mins the first day because it has to do with the In Game Time of the game... I have a doubt about the triviality of such TASes and it's why I'm asking what you think. Note that for other games, RNG manipulation will have to be used to avoid some weathers and events that make us lose time. Thanks in advance.

Then the second option has to be the default setting. Also, whe it comes to RNG or date based events: you can change the date of the emulator within the movie which is better for playing back a movie.

Could we consider the RTA runs starting on power-on ? then a TAS will be always faster on the menuing part when pressing pause to make the in-game loads faster. This is only the community choice of making RTA runs starting at a certain point. Some community starts a run when pressing "start the game" other like Super Mario 64 choose to start the timer at power on other which are most likely in the same situation that this game, where runs start at the menu before starting the game because there is a glitch that you need to setup, this is the case of some pokemon categories, I have also in mind Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005) where the runner starts the run when creating a custom circuit, which would be used as well in TAS. For me, This game has to be considered for RTA runs as a speedrun starting on power-on or before using the pausing glitch that will be used in the actual game. Most likely, the RTA community will choose to change the rules of the any% category to make a real difference between two runs. If we reject this movie now but the speedrunning community change the rule for the game and that the TAS with the pausing glitch is actually faster than any RTA run, the TAS would have to be rejudged and accepted ? I feel it unfair. What do you guys think ?

It would be nice to have the full lineup of the original Atari systems. All that's missing is 5200. Apparently Altirra or Atari800 are the best cases and both of them feature the Atari 8-bit (400, 800, XL, XE & XEGS).
I was actually thinking about implementing Altirra into BizHawk since a long time. I don't really know about the accuracy of the acid test suite given in the altirra page but it seems like atari800 doesn't pass half of them and altirra passes most of them as you can see in this thread by me.

Good TAS, I had plans in a long time for this game but thankfully it has been done by you. Yes vote thanks to all the manipulation of the AI which is impressive.

Thanks for the questions :) I used the easy difficulty because it allows for putts to travel farther and quicker (just saving time in general). As for your second question, I had the choice of which to prioritize, speed or score, and I chose speed for no other reason then that's what I preferred to make/watch. I may end up making a best score TAS, but it'd definitely be slower by at least a few seconds.
Thanks for the answer. I vote yes to this submission.

According to the game's manual, the only significant difference in difficulty is the "handicap", with the ball going much farther after being putted when the difficulty switch is set to A. You can debate whether this would make things harder or easier, but that's the only thing that could be changed to affect the difficulty.
Yes, I already red it up before writting my message and I'm mixed about it, I don't know if it could be considered as a significant adding or if this could be ended like my TAS here [3709] A2600 Boxing by ViGadeomes in 00:12.80. Like I said, it's only advices to him because I know that judges will ask about it anyway. ( Just to warn you GJTASer2018, never presents an URL from the site where you found the manual, because it actually presents some ROMs to download as well which is prohibited on this site ^^' )

I liked it, but I have two questions that the judges will ask you if I don't : - Is it played in the hardest difficulty ? and if not, why ? - Why should you not going for the maximum score of 24 ? since this game would be very similar if you take a "fastest completion" TAS and a "maximum score" TAS (only 2 more shots as I understood) both TAS can't be accepted at the same time, and the "maximum score" TAS will obsolete this TAS because the "fastest completion" TAS is included in the "maximum score" TAS. This is just some advices from a guy who knows these particular situations ;). Nothing will be against you if your reasons for choosing the easiest difficulty (if this is the case) are validated by judges.

We actually discovered a problem in an early event and we have to redo it, it could make the all rest of the movie wrong as well. When we will be back, I'll do the temp encode and add timing improvements.

One question: why did you play two loops? Why not just one or more than two?

After this, I did the second level of the game, since this is the last level of the game where the difficulty increases, so this should have been included in the currently published run of the game (the current movie ends after reaching Bobby's house once - which is the end of level 1).
but that's right Lobsterzelda, please explain better why this is the last level where the difficulty increases to let the judge verify that this is the case. What makes the 2nd level harder ? Why does this not change after, in the third loop ?

To me it looks like 19,999 is the score cap, and the game has just not been tested by the developers beyond a certain point. Score cap is not considered max score by our rules. If you can reach it, the technique that you use to reach it is not allowed. If you reach it by simply executing the standard gameplay actions over and over, that game is not eligible for this category. Whether the graphics look glitched or not doesn't matter.
Okay, so i have to abandon the project now ? or i could just make a maximum score TAS by reaching 5.6 meters on pole vault ? Actually, I just realized that maybe, it could be not considered as normal gameplay because the horizontal bar, when it reachs the very top of the screen, disappears and appears/is generated at the height of the character, like you can see in my WIP descibed above and you can watch what i mean in the video given with it, and there is no better score than the height of 5.6 meters. Thanks for your response.

Hello, I have a technical question about the maximum score rule and in particular the second point and if applicable the third point:
Movie Rules wrote:
* Saturation (maxing out the counter) and overflow (dropping from high value to zero or negative) do not count as "max score". Scoring indefinitely should be impossible due to limitations of gameplay. ** If a certain technique can be repeated indefinitely to delay game completion and score points until saturation or overflow, this technique should not be used. Examples: Backwards warps, farming extra lives and dying, "Clock stopping glitch" in NES Punch-out. If such a technique is required to complete the game, that game is ineligible for this category * If a game automatically resets the score as you progress (for example, in every level), "max score" must be reached in every such segment.
After the acceptance of [4090] C64 Decathlon "maximum score" by DrD2k9 in 09:35.02, I decided to come back on my maximum score TAS of the Atari 2600 version of the game while I'm helping DrD2k9 on the improvement of his TAS. Both versions are different. As you can see with this WIP from me, we can actually achieve 21.2 meters on the Pole Vault event with a softlock so beeing able to continue to play by stopping at 21 meters. The main problem is that after 5.6 meters, the score shown is glitched and will glitch the total score if we end the event with a glitched score. But there are some particular heights where the score won't be glitched and won't glitch the total score (maximum is at 9999 points). Reaching these heights are actually considered as normal gameplay, the game's mechanics permits it (referring to my WIP if you want to verify) First question is : Is it possible to go upper than 5.6 meters where it will show the glitched scores that could be considered as overflow to reach one of the height where the score isn't glitched ? If yes, the second problem is that the maximal total score is 19 999 points and as it is right now, my TAS overflows this value and the total score goes back to 10 000 points instead of 20 000 points. If I want to be as close as possible of 19 999 points, I'll need to intentionally reach a lower score than actually possible on some events of the game. My second question is : Would this "maximum score" category for this game impossible because it breaks rule(s) above ? Do I have to reach the closest possible score from 19 999 points ? or do I have to stop at 5.6 meters on pole vault because it makes the TAS unacceptable ? Thanks in advance for the response.

Around 1:45 in the video on the second level, it seems like it slows you down when you bounce on them. If it's true, try to avoid them and see if it is faster. And at the very end of the TAS, you can avoid moving after the last hit on the boss to make the TAS finishing faster i think. Good TAS overall looking forward to see the improvements !

I'm really interrested to see how the judgement will end on this submission, maybe it will let the possibility to one of my old TAS on A2600 Decathlon never submitted to be submitted. But, there will be an other problem on this one because on the pole vault event, we can reach 5.6 meters without messing score but an overflow after and 21,2 meters before the game softlocks. So if we can consider as a maximum score the maximum score without overflow even if we know that we can go upper (in the event) then the TAS will be submittable and acceptable, if not, the TAS will not be submitted.
