So, I actually managed to improve this by 10 frames. I delayed starting 100m to manipulate the enemies then delayed when I started moving Mario to manipulate them even further. If you check out the movie file, you'll notice I jump randomly at some points in 100m but it was also to manipulate enemies movement patterns to prevent them from going towards Mario. So all together this got even better RNG than before and I managed to save 10 frames in the end. I have no idea if this can be manipulated even better but I wouldn't doubt it. But for now, this will probably be the final version of the movie: User movie #25534579618472344

No worries! I think it's fair for the both of us to add you as a co-author. Can somebody please replace the movie file with the one I provided?
Alright! Sounds good to me! :) I'm happy to have helped.

I actually wasn't planning on spending too much time with this game, but if you really did want to do a dual-authorship you could always just start looking for improvements with the movie I posted! :) Then that way you won't have to start over or edit your previous movie. Then if you find improvements, I can then too try to improve it and we can go back and forth like that until we can no longer find anything. How does that sound?

Fair enough. So what about [2592] SNES Chrono Trigger by keylie in 2:17:08.86 ? So far 3 backers if you include me.
I also agree that this deserves to be starred. I think it's by far one of the most entertaining RPG TASes on the site. It's extremely well done and has a rating of 9.3! Not to mention Chrono Trigger is hailed as one of the best RPG's of all time too.

Lol, this port is hilariously bad. I also didn't realize that the generic game sound effects came from this. I guess you learn something new everyday! I got curious and tried to find some improvements to this and managed to beat this about a second faster. Link to video User movie #25516324849264684 The barrels RNG can actually be manipulated by changing Mario's X position. So that way I was able to end 25m a bit quicker. I then ended up getting better RNG on the enemies movement patterns on 100m and this ended up being where most of the time saving came from. It seems a sub 37 seconds is impossible but I'm guessing 100m could be manipulated even better by testing out more end frames in 25m. So I hope you can improve your own movie! :)

Well, I currently have completed Red Wharf aka level 1. I had to deal with some bug with BizHawk's TAStudio where it created tons of lag frames on this level only. The lag frames aren't existent when not using it so....ya. Who knows what's going on there. I worked around it though and I think I completed this level very quickly. Here's the WIP: Link to video User movie #25455902981539230 From what I can tell, it's about 3 seconds faster than the RTA WR so far. I also discovered a method of moving quicker when starting a level. Rather than spinning/rolling once a level has started, holding B+A for one frame will make you jump with a burst of speed as if you had been running. Then you just hold B to keep the speed. Then right before you touch the ground again, jump for only one frame. This is the fastest method of movement I found other than rolling into enemies. But anyways, I can't really think of any improvements but if someone can, then please let me know! :) Otherwise, I'll be moving on to the second level.

This was really amazing! :) This shaves off so much time compared to the RTA and it really shows you how much optimization is put into this. Congrats on finishing both stories of CoM!

Hey there! I've just started a TAS of Donkey Kong Land 3 and I've come across what seems like a bug. I'm playing the Japan-only GBC version of the game and this bug only occurs in this version. What's happening is, when I enter the first level in the game, lag frames start appearing every 6 frames and even more appear inconsistently when I start moving. I think this is a bug with BizHawk because it only happens when I use TAStudio or make a movie. I can play the game without using those and the lag frames aren't present. The game is also a verified good dump and this is the only time I've experienced this with TAStudio. I'm using version 1.11.1 so I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with it. Hopefully someone knows a way to fix this! :)

That was awesome, and thank god you sped up the warp zones! It was really sweet to see a lot of tricks not normally used in SMB runs. This also had some really good routing! I give this a yes vote!

I've decided to do a TAS of this game! I've always loved old Rareware and I love the DKC series. I'm going to do an any% run of this game because I think a 103% would be too boring. The game isn't as interesting as DKC3 and the 103% WR is an hour and thirty-seven minutes long! So I think it'll be more entertaining for everyone if I just beat it as fast as possible. I'll also be using the GBC Japan-only version of the game because it has faster loading times due to the better hardware. It also has a lot less lag in some levels. Here's a comparison between loading times:

Dang, that sounds insane lol. I've always thought Super Monkey Ball games looked absurd to TAS so I tip my hat to you sir. I'll be following your every WIP as I have been for the last 4 months and I look forward to your progress with this game. :) Good luck with Progenitor and Curvature! I honestly think this could become a Star worthy TAS.

The game is also notoriously laggy with the crazy amount of enemies spawning on the hardest difficulty. I'd rather watch a run on an easier difficulty than watch one that is riddled with lag for the sole purpose of knowing it was harder to complete. Skips and glitches are also always very entertaining so I think it would be a great loss if they weren't included because of the difficulty level that was chosen. Honestly, it would make more sense for Jedi difficulty to be it's own branch rather than being the main difficulty setting. That way there could be that variety that some viewers might want to see. ------------------ EDIT: Sorry arandomgameTASer, I was writing this before you posted above me. I would like to mention this was really entertaining :) It was cool to see multiple characters being used but it was definitely a shame about the long auto-scroller at the end. But it didn't diminish any enjoyment I had so I gave this a yes vote. I hope someone one day does Empire Strikes Back as well!

I watched this live-streamed and I personally found this entertaining enough! I thought it added enough variety compared to any% to keep me interested. You did stuff like having to enter the well, dampe's grave, and even having to acquire the master sword. But, I can also see where some people are coming from. It is just any% altered and yes, it is pretty arbitrary too. So I guess it's truly up to the judges whether or not this should be published. But I do stand by my yes vote, so good luck TaylorTot!

That was an awesome watch! :D I got to watch the last hour on stream and it was super entertaining. It is a real shame it can't be submitted here but it's still great either way and I hope someone finishes a true TAS of this one day.

I love all of your Sonic Advance runs and this one is no exception! :) As others have already said, it's really cool that each character is different enough to the point where each stage has a different route. I also really love the level of optimization that goes into these runs. This is a definite yes vote from me!

I'm loving how many glitches you've found in this game! Based on all your WIPs, this should be a really entertaining final product! ;)

Nice improved! But did you compare your every bonus stages? you may find something interested. A B C B-A C-B 1012 2839 3198 1827 359 4150 5655 6032 1505 377 6962 8471 8861 1509 390 Did you think about why this happened? Edit: comparison: http://www.mediafire.com/watch/3e35rgok4u39194/Balloon_Fight.mp4
Thanks for going to the trouble of making that video! Bonus 1 is actually different than the other two because the first balloon doesn't spawn until later so it will always be slower. BUT, I managed to manipulate the last bonus stage by killing the last bird in phase 9 slower. I got the balloon RNG to change so that it was possible to grab only 4 balloons to end the stage quicker! It turns out that bonus stage RNG changes what seems like every frame so I played around with a lot of the ending frames to finally get the proper stage! I saved 23 milliseconds thanks to that. It is also possible to manipulate the second bonus stage to only need 4 balloons but it doesn't save any time in the end. The reason is because bonus 3 still requires manipulation meaning the 12-14 frames saved from bonus 2 would be lost. It also turns out that the results screen can't be brought up sooner than frame 8467 anyways. SO, without further ado, here's my FINAL version of this TAS: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/25254033441215639 I'm really sorry to want to change it again but I want this to be as optimal as it can be. :P

Well guys, I did it! :) I shortened this run down from 2:44 to 2:39! Thanks for everyone's help and support. I posted a new encode in the submission text along with some new screenshot suggestions due to frame differences. Here's the download for the new movie file: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/25232880317148660 It seems I can't change the submission file so is it possible for one of the staff to do it?

So could even more time be saved in the bonus stages (which were nicely done, btw) by not accumulating any points, at all? Also Weegeechan, as mtvf1 stated, if you need some more time to include Takanawa's improvements we can go ahead and temporarily set your submission to delayed.
About the bonus stages: It seems the game was programmed to bring up the results screen quicker when the last 4-6 balloons on screen have been collected. I'm not sure why, because even collecting all the balloons makes the stages go on for longer. The same goes for not collecting any balloons. It's very odd indeed and I'll have to do some extensive testing on the stages. Also yes, I would like this to be delayed :) I've saved 6 frames on Phase 1 even when I thought it couldn't be done quicker! I have to redo entire parts of this TAS anyways because each bonus stage's balloon RNG changed just from beating Phase 1 quicker. I'd rather have an even more optimized TAS submitted so I hope I don't take too much longer! ;)

Wow, thanks mtvf1! I didn't know there was another TAS of this out there. According to that, it should be possible to save at least 5 seconds. This makes for a very good comparison. Looks like I'll be attempting to shorten this TAS! Btw, is there any way to share his video? Also, is it worth cancelling this submission? I'll be wanting to shorten this run with this new knowledge but should I wait instead?

For the bonus stages, shouldn't you try to make the point countdown as short as possible? That would mean distributing balloons evenly to both players. Or does it not make a difference in how long the bonus screen takes?
I can't believe I missed that! Yes, it turns out to be faster to distibute the points evenly. I saved 6 frames simply for the first bonus room. But for some odd reason, it desyncs phase 5. I'm not even sure why. I adjusted the levels to match the lag frames but It simply just doesn't work anymore. I'll have to mess with it later because I'm currently busy at the time.

It looked good to me, although I feel like there was more you could have done to liven up the bonus stages. It's not enough that I won't vote Yes, though. One question, however. Does the game get harder in subsequent loops? In cases where that happens, TASVideos defines the end point as "the first repeat point where there is no change in content."
For the bonus stages I was trying to make it like 1P and 2P were always fighting. Sorry if it didn't come out entertaining enough :P It was hard to think of something entertaining to do since I can't grab balloons until the last 4-5. If I find any improvements I will try to change up the bonus stages as best I can ;) To answer your question, no, the game does not get harder. The game starts looping Phases 4 - 12.

I like the choreography you did in the balloon-collecting levels bonus stages. However, I didn't quite understand how you chose how many balloons to pop.
The (few) RTA runners of this game discovered that only grabbing the last few balloons at the end of each bonus game will bring up the results screen quicker. I have no idea why this happens. So I tried to come up with clever ways to avoid grabbing any other balloons.

Nice strat. I was able to save at least 20 frames with it. I just tried hex editing it into the run, but as I feared, the game's massive amounts of lag cause desyncs at every turn, so I don't think it would be worth pursuing a change this early on in the run.
Dang that sucks :P Well, the TAS is still really good anyways! The less runs we have from 2007 the better!

Wow, it's really nice to see an older TAS get destroyed! :D This was actually a game I was interested in months ago. Back when I was testing the game, I found what I think is a timesaver. I forgot to post it in the game thread. You can turn into the bat and fly through the hole as long as you wait until the knight gets some distance away. Keep in mind that I did this in real-time and is by no means optimized. I also don't know 100% if it saves time but I definitely feel like it should. I hope it can improve your submission, even a little bit!
