There was a moment in Pirate Mans stage where you did a slide in the air above a row of spikes. I can't cap it myself but that would be my suggested cap... for what it's worth.

Well, I have a new computer (technically it's 5 years old) that should be much better suited to playing this... I opted for downloading a copy of BoF3 instead of ripping mine in the hopes that that also had something to do with it. I'll edit once I've watched this or been defeated by it.

Merry Christmas! May you eat a lot of good food, get drunk and have gay sex with numerous people... as was originally intended. d(^_^)b

My computer has so many problems it's kind of astonishing it still works. It has slowly died piece by piece over its 13 year life... which is a shame because I've done quite a lot to prolong it's life and in the entire time I've owned it only got one virus (which I got when hooking it up to the net for the first time in 4 years). BoF3 was the very first game I owned that I ripped... and as such I didn't really know what format was best so I just picked one. Now I can't simply just re-rip the damn thing from one of the most recent failures... none of my cd or dvd drives work any longer, aside from my virtual drive and needless to say that can't rip a cd. :P I'm so happy that in like 2 weeks time I'll have a new compy... or at least that's the plan. I will say this though, a $3000 computer can last a long ass time if you don't care about pc gaming. ^_^ Never did get the TAS to synch either... the weird part is the plugins seem pretty much like the ones I use but the emulator speed doesn't reach even 40 frames on average... and on ePSXe I can rock a steady 60 at all times, and over speed the game to 350 frames. *shrugs* My new compy will have a processor over twice as powerful as this one and a graphics processor at least 5 times as powerful... and over 10 times as much RAM.

I guess I'll have to see if I can get this emulator working since no encodes have been made other than the original one. I usually use ePSXe because my compy is really old and doesn't support things like openGL or SSE2 so I generally stick with emulators I know are stable on this dinosaur. I haven't seen the video yet but for the fishing game it might be easiest to TEC4 the fish all the way until it is right in front of Ryu and then hook it for an instant catch. I'll try to get the TAS emu working now and then post later. EDIT: Well I've got the emulator running but the file desynchronized in the first fight (possibly during the text before the fight) and I can't help but wonder if it's because my image file was a rip I made myself. The file is an .img file and I think I heard somewhere that you need to use a bin and cue file... which I can't rip my CD into. I'll keep trying but would appreciate some tips. I'm fairly positive I have the emu configured correctly (not my first time trying to set up an emulator for movie playback) so it's either the ISO or the fact that my PC really sucks (that's my bet).

Well after some rummaging around I found out that the size of every fish is decided when you enter a fishing screen (not sure exactly when or why). I located one fishes size at offset 00146e6c. I'm sure somebody more talented than myself could use that address to watch some memory addresses associated with it... I'm really only good at finding code values for simple gameshark codes so aside from brute forcing that specific value higher I can't do much else to it. I screwed around with a huge chunk of the data in that area and never managed to change the jellyfish into anything else but I did locate the fishes position in the water at address 00146e15-16 and 00146e19-1a. Hopefully that will help you in some way and I'm not done rummaging yet so I might find some other things. This info even has a bit of use as far as the TAS goes. Eventually 1 fish must be caught so manipulating its position to be close to the start will be helpful.

Hey, ElectroSpecter, you might be interested in a code I made for BoF3 a few years back. "My codes\Press L1 to catch fish instantly d0145AA4 0400 80144002 003e (if this code doesn't work you might need to do some tweaking. When I made the code its first line was d0145AA3 0400 originally and I know that works fine for PEC but I've been told it will not work on a real system and that's why the line was changed... but when I just tried to use that in PEC it didn't work. I'll probably tweak it later, but for now I'm trying to do something else.) I might be able to verify what you want to know through some sort of code... maybe one to make it so you always catch a big fish or something. If it's like BoF4 each fish has a max limit to its points given so I could probably narrow that value down or something. In BoF4 it was really fairly simple to just use the journal to find that out, maybe BoF3 would work the same way. EDIT: Also, Janus, I made a topic over at GameFAQs calling the vets to come here. It'll be worth taking a look at the topic from time to time. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/196817-breath-of-fire-iii/57517886

I'm curious if you think it would be possible to take down Balio and Sunder in the Wyndia dungeon? You could get a Broad Sword (not great) and Asbestos Armor (armor not seen again until the Volcano)... not sure how much time would be needed to make them run but living shouldn't be too hard unless you are keeping Ryu level 1 for Bunyan power abuse or something. Sunder can be talked into attacking his brother by using influence and Nina runs away once awakened, which can be done simply by healing her. I think the brothers run away like 2 or 3 turns after that point. No idea if a lot of damage needs to be done to make them drop the items though. Also to prevent confusion I want to make it clear I am in no way talking about the fight in Cedar Woods. It is not a fight you can win and if you claim you did you are a liar.

I'm watching an episode of The Event right now but as soon as it finished I will watch this TAS. Congratulations on finishing!

You do not seem to understand how copyright works. Ofcourse it's his copyright as it's an inputfile he created. Just as savegames you create are your copyright. just ask a copyight laywer. (this stuff actually came up when the twiizers made the twilight hack) But even if it wasn't against the law it would certainly be against site rules. As it should be. Following your logic I can grab Grunzs last WIP, before he defeats majora, in a few months, deal the final blow to it and then submit the TAS as my own.
I can assure you he does not have copyright on the input contained in that file. http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-protect.html How do I protect my idea? Copyright does not protect ideas, concepts, systems, or methods of doing something. You may express your ideas in writing or drawings and claim copyright in your description, but be aware that copyright will not protect the idea itself as revealed in your written or artistic work. Maybe I'm missing something?

Punctuation missing on your keyboard? Also edit posts so you don't have to double post. As for the idea of a TM tas, sure. It could be a lot of fun... for the first level or so. Might get somewhat repetitive so I think a run that tries to break the game in some way would be much more enjoyable.

I agree with the above posters. I am entitled to a TAS that I put no work or contributions towards! How DARE someone have a personal life or real obligations that come before my selfish desires?! Seriously, you guys sound like grade A jerks. I'm very happy with the progress and I can only hope the absolute rudeness displayed by our less mature forumgoers will not scare antd off from sharing future work with us. The idea of "whipping a TAS out in a few weeks" is so insulting I'm just not sure how to take it seriously. If you have that kind of time, by all means, please make your own TAS and I will happily eat my words.
Heh, I like how you tried to put words into my mouth. I never said, nor did I even imply, that he needs to whip this out for my benefit. I simply said that I lack faith in him finishing this. Nine months is a long time and long breaks like that break peoples will to finish something. As with life so too with TASes. How many projects have you finished after taking nearly a year off? I respect him for doing this, I'm also very thankful for what he has done and I want to see him produce a masterpiece but I'm also a realist and I know when something is more than likely dead. You can keep your hands clenched tightly in prayer that this project will get done sometime in the next two years and get all bent out of shape when somebody tries to get people to pick up this project but really what good does your post do? antd I don't want to be misunderstood here, I honestly do appreciate what you have done and I hope your life gets a little less hectic. I know how rough it can be when life dumps a ton of stuff on your plate. If I came off as somebody who thinks you need to whip this out for my amusement I truly apologize, it was not my intention. In the mean time I still hope that somebody else picks this up. Competition is no bad thing and this TAS is a project I know a lot of people, myself included, are looking forward to.

I know exactly how hard they are to make. I also know that when somebody says they wont make any progress for another nine MONTHS it's as good as dead. Who the hell even knows what they will be doing that far into the future? Unless you just got pregnant... then I guess you might have an idea of what you will be doing in 9 months. I'm not saying he needs to hurry up or anything I'm just saying that I hope somebody else takes this up because I have no faith in him finishing this at all. I hope I'm wrong, of course. I want to see this run as much as anyone of this site but seriously... how many projects have you seen finished after a person took nearly a year off?

I'm beginning to consider this run dead. Hopefully somebody else takes it up. I mean, it's only one of the most played games of all time so you'd think somebody here could whip this out in a few weeks/months.

*rolls eyes* I knew it would only be a matter of time before somebody asked that. Personally I find the idea simply idiotic, always have and always will. If you want to enjoy the story you have three options. Option 1, go play FF9. This is the best option as you can actually talk to all the NPC's and such. Option 2, watch a Let's Play. This is in case you don't have the time or the game or whatever. It's basically the whole point of Let's Play's anyway. Option 3, just play the video back slowly during text. The logical option!

Wren, what are your thoughts on the "Obtain perfect amounts of all missable items" discussion? Just curious. To summarize what I said before (correct any of this if it's wrong): Any of those 31 items can be purchased in shops before the 4th disc, but limited time in an EII run does not permit 99 of each, so Atomos just truncated the "perfect" amount so that it fit some guideline that he made up (which is fine). My argument is that in a TAS you can actually allocate all the extra time you have to buying as many of these items as you can, and that this is "more perfect" than just buying like 4 of each, or whatever. Again, I've never really started this challenge in earnest (the idea of maxing the jump rope mini-game scares me) so I may be not quite correct up there in my description ^
My thoughts on the obtain perfect amounts of miss-able items is this; if an item has a maximum limit of 5 but only 3 are miss-able then the TAS should gather 3 of them and ignore the other 2. The reason is that anyone could then simply load the save and with a short trip go and grab the other 2 items. Nothing has been lost that can't be gotten later. Sadly it means the TAS simply wont do a lot of stuff but does anyone here honestly think anyone is going to go through the effort of actually making a perfect file TAS? The only other alternative is to simply go for pure speed and then you are left with a run that basically just has huge chunks of text followed by really short boss fights. It's something most RPG runs suffer greatly from, especially modern ones like FF9. It's bad enough that as far as I know cut-scenes won't be skip-able so you might as well just go whole hog and add some pointless objectives. You still have to consider the viewer though which is why I see little point in getting 2 more of an item that only 3 of which can't be gotten later. Take the Romancing SaGa 2 run that was recently published. It is basically an hour of sitting in one spot running followed by a game breaking glitch. It's interesting from a technical standpoint but honestly I would imagine most people would much rather have seen the game beaten in a more conventional way. In that sense when most people play FFIX they attempt to do as much as possible and miss Excalibur 2 or do as little as possible but get Excalibur 2. This run can easily do both and thus I think it's the best choice but you need to consider that this run is already going to be as long as the Lord of the Rings movies back to back to back. Anyway... my 2 cents. Hope this reaches a consensus and somebody starts soon. EDIT: Sorry I got sidetracked and forgot. I wanted to add that if an item can be equipped by 4 people then 5 should be obtained as that allows you to have each person using one and yet that item is still in the inventory at the same time. However, if an item can be gotten later then it should be ignored completely for the purposes of this TAS. Unless, of course, some of that item can be missed or is used in obtaining a miss-able item (synthesizing items for instance). I personally see zero difference between having 99 of an item of just enough to fulfill my above scenario.

Here's my thought: "This TAS achieves a perfect game with X hours to spare" sounds more impressive than 'this TAS achieves a perfect game as well as getting X more of Y, Z and Q to spend the rest of the hours'
Perfect Game with X hours to spare is alot more fun to watch I think, the other ones include way too much grinding which is really annoying to watch I think.
That objective makes no sense though. Getting Excalibur II is the only thing about the perfect game that is being timed. Once obtained the time limit is lifted and you are expected to spend well over another 100+ hours doing the rest of the crap needed for a "perfect" file. Even a TAS would not be able to lower this to a sub 50 hour run and frankly I would be highly skeptical if it could even lower it to sub 100 hours. More fitting, as I said from the start, is something along the lines of "Creates a save which can be used to achieve a perfect file" and all that objective would need is for the TAS to at the final save point actually save. As for the TAS itself all it would need to do is get all miss-able and finite quantity items needed for a perfect inventory. The beauty of this is it would create a save file for someone to use to create a perfect file later... which nobody will ever do because it would take years to make and weeks to watch and be boring as hell. The idea of a perfect TAS is a nice one though as this is by far the easiest FF ever created and speed versus entertainment trade-offs are frankly needed. I've done this challenge in real life and it's something most people would like to be able to do themselves but can't given the sheer time and effort needed so an ultimate save to set up a perfect file should, I think, be the goal of this run.

Voting Yes. I enjoyed the run although I thought that there could have been a bit more play around in the two auto scrolling levels. Seemed like you might have been able to get closer to enemies instead of just hugging the right side so much. May have been a reason but I didn't read your comments as I wanted to watch this before I went to bed. Which I shall now do. ^_^
