If someone were thinking about doing this run, what tips would you give? I know I have the knowledge of the game required to do this run... but I don't know if I have the ambition. How much is snes9x's frame advance like VBA's? Also, how much did you figure out about manipulating battles? And can enemies be manipulated to not appear easily?

For me, it's mainly because I have a lust for perfection and speedruns. These are, obviously, just that. I've watched nearly all the videos at the site, and I even watch the updated versions to see what all can be done. Alas, though, I have a quirk when it comes to these vids... since I like perfection the most, pure speed isn't my cup of tea. I like the 100% completion vids, since I never play a game any other way. More than anything though, these videos are a learning experience. I love the videos and I love this site.

Hmm, personally, I gotta agree with Zurreco and Bisqwit. There is just no real reason to have a category for videos like that. The only advantage I see to the idea is the casual viewer might take it upon himself to make a video. In turn sparking the avid to improve upon it. Which more or less already happens.

I'd certainly like to see a run of this. This was one of those "I rented it, but never finished it. And I regret it to this very day" type of games.

150cc would be ideal, without a doubt.

Well, that would be cheating and the code doesn't work anyway.

Ah, that explains it. Would you mind if somebody made a torrent out of it? I would if I knew how... but for some reason I don't think I make torrents properly... since I made one for my bro (he had to dl a 90mb file from me) and he never got a single bit from me in 2 hours... but I'm sure people here know how to make 'em. Anyway, can't wait to see this!

The problem I, and I assume the others are having, is the servers that you have to click on to actually download the file are, very literally, not there. They aren't listed at all. Not just full, but literally missing. It's a problem file planet seems to have ALL to time. Making it one of the most annoying sites i know of.

You don't have to pay for fileplanet... it's just a very annoying site. As far as I can tell they have a download ticker... once the limit is reached the download goes down for a few hours or days. Just keep checking the site. Eventually you'll be able to download it for free.

No, hard mode is a BAD idea. Since it's an unlocked feature most people wont be able to watch it. Stick with normal mode but do everything else you planned.

I'll be happy with whatever names you choose. It's such a pointless thing really. The run is LONG over-due and the names are a great way to immortalize the run. I'm extremely happy somebody finally is taking this task up (even if he seems to ignore my comments lol). *cheers like a cheerleader on pep-pills* um... *smacks self* okay, I'm better. Anyway, I'm pretty interested in your general plan so far. You probably have one, I assume. Care to let us know?

Sorry to hear that, man. The first castle was probably the coolest speedrun I've ever seen. I loved the trick with the wolf segment breaks (the library, and clock room to be specific) and I learned a heck of a lot by watching it (and I thought I knew all there was to know lol). Once I get a little time I'll be SURE to check out that forum. You are the sole reason that I watch speedruns now. That run was the first I saw. Thank you. Thank you very much.

Odd, it worked fine for me. No desynchs all the way to the point you ended recording.

I suggest, instead of fighting the two dogs now, you skip all fights until the arcade. When you kill starman junior you'll reach level 2. You're gonna be forced into fighting two battles in the arcade: Pogo Punk - 35 hp (two smash attacks kills him.) he gives 15 exp. That will level you up to level 3. Yes Man Jr. - 33 hp (two smash attacks kills him, also.) he gives 13 exp. That will make you level 4, with 65 exp. to the next level. You can choose to run from those fights and avoid the exp. but since you plan on leveling that seems like the fastest method. Unless you spend time leveling up, you're fighting Franky in level 4. When I tried those fights just now I was using the craked bat. If you buy the better bat it's possible that you could take them out in a single hit. I don't know for sure. Just thought I'd suggest that method since it seems faster than what you chose to do and it's gonna get you the same level, unless, of course, you plan on leveling up before Franky, which I do not suggest. EDIT: Also, you should abuse death as a shortcut whenever possible, since, when you die the game takes you to the last save location with all progress still completed. The only downside to that is you lose half your money on hand... but that shouldn't be a problem for you at all. EDIT EDIT: (This is the last edit for this post, I swear. I'm absent minded lol.) I suggest you use this http://starmen.net/mother2/miscinfo/battleenemy_guide.txt to help you for enemies and boss battles. Has everything you need to know on the monsters. Hp, exp. and etc.

I've been interested in this run from the very start. However, I have not played this game, since, for some reason, the dump of the ROM I have found will not work on the latest VBA here. So I can't offer my advice on the run... other than cheering you on to the finish!

You are akin to a god to me. Illusion of Gaia and now this. *Kowtows* In all seriousness, I'll be following this the whole way through. I know a fair share about this game since I did a lowest level run of it... they do differ a little bit though since I had to sequence break the bosses until I had all 4 people. For example, I skipped the 2nd Your Sanctuary location and came back later with Poo on my team. But I think I'll still be able to help you get this run very optimized.

Untrue, sorta. In my fight with Titanic Ant I was able to keep him asleep the entire fight by simply moving the cursor to another command without picking it a few times. Then by picking attack after moving it X number of times I was able to pick fight every single turn and easily manipulate him to stay asleep. I'm farily sure there is a way to manipulate him into staying asleep as well as getting you a smash each hit each turn. The fights aren't as riggid as I think you think they are.

If this is done I would like to see a Sword of Kings (starman supers) manipulated and a Gutsy Bat (bionic kraken (right before the fight with giygas)) manipulated. Other than that I don't think power leveling will be needed. If you have decent gear when fighting giygas you should be more than able to kill him easily. If it's possible to manipulate luck to the highest degree you could take it a step further and just force giygas to always miss. Making armor useless as well as levels. A few notes of mine: In the arcade you are forced into two fights. You can escape them to save time and yet trigger the flags to allow you to proceed. Franky (force him to say something nasty) and Franky Mark 2 (get smashes) are both killable without any previous leveling at all. Titanic Ant is weak to sleep. His helpers will never attack but rather always cure TA. With luck manipulation you can keep him asleep the entire fight. Also allowing you to avoid any leveling up to that point. The cops are rather hard due to high attack power. With proper luck manipulation you can make them miss and give you a smash each attack. Making them fall easily enough. No leveling needed up to this point. The fight outside of the cabin where paula is held produces another fight. Two options here: you can save at the drugstore of happy happy and allow them to kill you. Avoiding exp and possibly saving time by using death as a shortcut. Or you can kill them and earn exp yet lose time. This fight may be a good time to level up a bit. Cultists are worth a lot and they can call for help. Up to this point in the game I would suggest 0 fights aside from required then a serious level up at that point to earn some fast cash and exp. for Ness. That's all I can really recall from my lowest level game... I had hoped my topic at gamefaqs was still up... yet.. *sigh* no such luck.

I'm pretty sure the reason for it to be set on the slowest speed was because it only makes the enemy go slow. Your people don't get influenced by it in any way.

I would imagine he's knew that. The enemy he's fighting is a fixed location fight. I would bet he meant he was starting the fight at a different frame.

What I would suggest is making two versions. The first version is the first method you said and, obviously, the second version would be the second method. Then it's simply a matter of figuring out which actually took less time to do. What items are you trying to get anyway?
