the movie worked fine for me without renaming anything, using nitsuja's fceu. the game is good, but i do think it could be better manipulated to hit the enemies faster. i look forward to an improved version, i will vote no.
Well, like I said, in a few days I'll try it again... though I'm not sure how much better it'll come out.

Yet again you misunderstand me. I don't want to see this made into an enforcable rule. That would be stupid. I would however like to see this be accepted as an ethical standard, like correct grammar and punctuation in submission text.

Okay then, revision. Any game that takes less than 24 hours to improve is hereby banned from the Workbench and must be posted in the forum until you have a frame perfect movie. (however, delaying it by 0.00000001 seconds so it takes 24:00:00.000..001 to improve is perfectly valid) hotd: we didn't think it could be improved the previous few times, either... yet we keep getting proved wrong.

Because we all know it's going to be obsoleted very soon. So all it does is waste space when you could just post all the faster times on a forum thread until you get a time that no one can beat.
Good. Next time you make a submission, post it somewhere else and leave it out of the workbench until you've squeezed all the frames out of it. Hell, let's do wthat with all of the submissions too. No more of these pesky movies that can be obsoleted in the WB, move them all until they're frame-perfect!

Give me one good reason why this should be in the Workbench and not in a NES Monopoly thread.
This is a perfectly valid submission that fits with all of the rules of the Nesvideos site. There is no reason that this should not be here.

Because unlike some people, I actually check the Workbench for submissions that will actually get published and don't appreciate it when it gets clogged with multiple submissions for the same game. Especially when you could just as easily continue this war thing in a NES Monopoly thread.
This is nothing more than obsoleting any currently published movie. The only difference is that this is happening at a greater speed. Hell, the WB isn't even getting that clogged, as the threads are moved out of here when canceled.

No point in voting, since this'll probably be obsoleted before the day is over.
If you hate the monopoly wars, why are you even checking these threads? Just ignore them.

Hmm, why do you need another vote option for that when you can just wait and not vote? :)

AFAIK, that is not possible in phpBB. Something like IPB is required, I think.
This is why we have modifications to board engines. I should know, as Acmlmboard is fairly often hacked and I happen to be the only developer of it now... Also, on the "why have an author-question vote" -- makes it easier for authors of movies to check if there's a question waiting for them, instead of sifting through the potentially large number of posts since their last visit, and also allows publishers/judges to know that there's a question pending (and to see if it's valid and could delay publishing; e.g., finding a better route, etc) (note: I use 'hacked' to denote changes in the public version by other users, not 'hacking' (e.g. deleting forum, unauthorized edits, etc) -- most of the exploits were patched a while ago, so hacking has been considerably rare anymore)

moozoh: You are missing an effective "meh" option -- that, and an understanding of a game is not nessacarily needed to judge entertainment qualifications -- see my Pinball Quest run, for example (no one can understand that game, ever) Refined voting schema: 5 - Extremely impressive, flawless execution, highly entertaining, meets and exceeds goals 4 - Well done, no obvious flaws, meets goals 3 - Indecisive; nothing's really wrong but nothing's really good either 2 - Obvious mistakes / uninteresing/bad game 1 - Looks like it was played in real time with a broken controller * - Unable to watch (no ROM, bad movie, other technical faults) ! - Pending response from author (questions about movie or techniques used) Obviously, * and ! would not be taken into account in the voting assessment... Although what would be nice is the ability to revoke your vote and change it -- so you could go from, say, * or ! to 1-5, * to ! or vice-versa, or changing it if you discover some obvious time waster. ...another feature would be to add a small icon denoting what the user voted in each post by the sidebar or something to make it easier, and also noting how many voted and didn't post. (Edit: I'm really sorry, IRC guys, but... I keep coming up with new things, and I reserve "Minor edit" for things like typo corrections)

Okay, watched it fine up to the ending with 0.98.15-rerecording. (and indeed the rom was named Pinball Quest (U).nes) At least the concept to this game is odd. Throw in the usual RPG-cliches and make it a pinball game? Well, it seems to be well played, but I really can't tell with the ball going through solid stuff and all. It's nice and short also, you get right to the princess rescuing stuff. Is level 2 shorter than the rest or did you skip some stuff in the beginning? Looked like you went straight for the boss. And also, what's the deal with the GIANT MAGNET in the ending? Is this part of the game or the ending? I'll vote yes, because this game is gonna keep viewers hooked for the 5 mins asking themselves who designed this game and what were they smoking at the time. Good job.
Ball going through solid things: Beats me, but it's absoloutely hilarious when it happens. Level 2: The game deposits you at the top right away -- starting you from the bottom would've pissed everyone off (it SUCKS there.) The boss is available right at the start, anyway -- why not beat the living purple out of it? GIANT MAGNET MAN: I have no idea. Everything after the pinball moving (on its own) to the center of the screen when the boss' health hits 0 is the ending. I assume the GIANT MAGNET was the evil mastermind behind it all, given that this was a. a kingdom of pinballs b. pinballs are metal c. magnet + metal = fun so I don't know. I want whatever Jaleco was smoking, though. That stuff must be fun. :D

This is bizarre. It plays fine if I rename the pinball quest ROM to anything else than "Pinball Quest (U).nes", but if it's called that then it always desyncs. FCEU version isn't making a difference, location of the ROM doesn't matter and of course its contents aren't changing. I think the contents of the "Recent ROMs" menu must be changing (or corrupting) some variable used for emulation...

What is causing all of these desyncs..? It's weird.

As a sad attempt to divert from this topic from becoming a fchan/FA bashfest or something, I think I should actually say something about the movie. Good stuff but if you're ever to replay this, you should experiement on where the steal results are determined, I bet the movie would be sped up a great deal if you were to get the Devil Flippers after the first stage. Yes regardless.
And generally optimize other parts. I might look into redoing this when I leave for WoS III on Monday.

I know what it means. One of my internet buds happens to be furry and has dropped that word on more than one occasion.
Haha! Alright, just so you know it looks kinda funny. ;)

Huh, well that didn't change the behavior, so it probably wasn't a version problem. Are you able to watch your own movie (downloaded from the submission) play back to the ending?
Yep, and so was a test subject who has never used the emulator before. (I made sure of this when I first submitted; my movie is ... considerably larger in filesize than it should be for unknown reasons) Edit: Can you post a screenshot of the desync after a few seconds?

I've never attempted to do any speedruns, cause I was only good enough at the games to beat them quickly and move on. But I would like to see what someone can do when they can bend the game's rules to their will and pull some interesting stunts. I'd say give it a shot. It's something to do anyway.
I know on the turtle/ship level, it's possible to go into the roulette without killing the turtle on the path there if your timing's right. I'll go do something else and come back here in 30 minutes and give it a go... --- Edit: aparrently it's very possible to go too fast when starting the game. xD

Another title that I enjoyed in the past and would like to see done. It's a pinball game done in a sorta RPG style, with purchasable items (which you can also try to steal from the shops). I never got that far, cause I kept falling off of the board's bottom...
For a while I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person to have played this. :P It's a fun little game, and getting the "DEVL" (how did this get past Nintendo censorship..?) and the full 12 ATK would make it piss easy to kill anything and everything... and there are a lot of small shortcuts here and there. I've managed to beat this game several times, and it's still quite fun. You could just manipulate stealing to get the good items right off the bat so it's easier, too. Hm, maybe I should try this game..?
