Fake, eh? That sucks. How did he make those screenshots? Those looked pretty real.
It's easy to spot a fake, especially with almost no clue about how the game really works. Images coming shortly. I want to blow this thing away. =D --- If you're going to make a hoax, at least make it a GOOD hoax.

Phil already showed him his progress so acmlaim made the new movie, so what's the deal? everyone is friends, make peace, let's publish this.
I don't know why, but the first thing that came to my mind was PEACE AND LOVE!@(%*!% ...and that's without even having seen the anime that is used in.

Heheh, thanks...I think. I was going to do a full run, but Xkeeper seems to want it very badly so I'm letting him do it.
Why don't you do a full run also just in case Xkeeper doesn't do it?
I actually gave up on this since a lot of other people wanted to work on it instead, in the GB forum. I have a different game planned (thanks, Atma :P) for now, but I don't know how long until I get to it (or, them, heh...)

It's just that I want it to be published. Next time, it's better to vote YES without saying anything apparently. Now I understand those guys voting without posting anything.
If I'm reading right, you aparrently said "Yes" because it was a good game -- without watching the movie. This is just another reason that I tend to disregard the votes and just read through the posts; this way, wach post/vote can be attributed a certain "weight" (e.g., yes because of game would be 0) as opposed to the fairly anonymous voting system as of now. And Truncated does have a point; the rules clearly state to vote after watching, even if you've seen a WIP -- especially if it wasn't very close to the ending.

I think you're missing the point. Do you really think it's necessary to submit every single improvement, even if they're only by a few frames and you'll know it'll be beaten in a day anyway? I could've sworn submissions were for the purpose of actually getting published, not showing how fast you got it before it gets improved a few hours later.
When you aim for perfected game movies, that cannot be beaten any faster, there is nothing wrong here. Competition generally works better than pooling your skills -- as when you have a time to beat, you tend to try new things, or anything that can get you under the time needed. Personally, I couldn't care less if it dropped to single frame improvements -- it's still within the range of this site, and if it has to drop that far they're obviously doing a damn fine job, if it's almost perfected. The only reason other games like SMB1 or other heavily-attacked games didn't get this flood of submissions and such is because they take considerably longer than 00:31 to beat; short movies like this can be redone over and over, trying tons of random things, relatively fast. A route change here would be nothing compared to, say, the same change in a Meggerman 1 run. [shrug]

I guess it's time for BisqwitMonopolyBot! =P
MonoBisq. (heh) [[edit: irc notices be damned.]] Instead of brute-forcing it ala the old, traditional route, simply finding out the various timings and randomize functions would be faster, then having a program barf out various frame timings and whatever; faster than a bot (well, maybe) and easier... that is, if you have the time and required NES ASM skills. While this approach is more practical, simply letting BisqBot/MonoBisq hack away at it would probably just be easier, as it's already there.

I suggest 'How do you rate this movie?' and the use of a 1–5 rating system instead of yes/no/meh. 5 - publish immediately 4 - publish eventually 3 - has minor flaws that need to be corrected before publishing 2 - needs to be entirely redone 1 - atrocious; do not attempt to make a new version
5 - highly entertaining / amazing 4 - kept interest but nothing special 3 - nothing really notable or neat 2 - flawed, obvious mistakes 1 - looks like it was played in real time with a half-broken controller [cough]

Perhaps we should rename it to "#988: Phil's Nesvideos Internet Drama in 9:58:18" so it would be on topic, then. *shot*

Imo, whoever encoded this and double dragon should encode higher priority runs that are on the queue.
This run is 00:34; which, even on my ancient 800 MHz computer, would still encode in maybe 15 minutes tops. Granted, I do think we need to concentrate on runs that are just rotting in the submission queue, but... well, it's only 15 minutes.

@ the ongoing debate over submission text lengths... of all things: - shorter text can leave out interesting or useful information a viewer might want to know, or may not convey important information - longer text may seem overwhelming, but it usually has more, in-depth information, so anyone who cares to find out more can I'd rather be safe than sorry... ------ Also, I was not aware it was possible to squeeze out even more frames from this game... but then, I suck at this game.

It's not unexpected; it works on FZ: MV too (first FZ game for me), and I tested and found out it worked on the original too, so I already know about it. Bleh. Would vote no based on it only being one race, but not voting because I have not watched it yet (and will not)... sorry.

The added runs I have no problem with, as they're both the definition of "fast" and "planning" -- at least, mostly. However, if you're going to show a super-glitch run like MM2, MM1 would be much better suited to it; as said before, glitches take less time to preform and are just generally even crazier. Sonic3&Knuckles is almost definitely one of the best TAS's on this site; it's just so varied and tries to keep things new the whole way through - SDW, even for someone who has no background, should still be counted; it's one of those games that just makes your jaw drop in sheer awe at how far ROM hacking can go, and it shows off every level in the game, even more glitches than SMW, and all kinds of fun things; it's the only run I managed to sit for over an hour to watch in one sitting with my jaw throughly down the whole time.

Wow. All that work, and all you get is a crappy 10 lives. Whopee. Anyway, it was a good waste of my time, so I'm voting yes... though it makes you wonder what this game would be like if it wasn't completely funded by McDonalds as a cheap ploy to get you to go there. :P

Ah; I happen to have gotten a used copy recently; one of them produced before it reached "Million Seller" (which appears to be what v1.1 is). Too bad the battery in the cartrige is dead... I also have a copy of DX, but it does not appear to be one of the early versions. I've heard rumors of some DX carts containing the bugs from 1.0 still, and I was wondering if there was a ROM of this available (I can find it, I just want to know if it exists)... (also, does anyone know what the tiny engraved lettering on the cartriges is for? mine reads '22', but ... I can't find any sort of reason behind the numbering)

Might as well; after all, the Zelda 3 movie does the same thing, mostly, though if I make a run I won't abuse it...

v1.0 is just the standard b/w version, isn't it? all the known bugs exist in it, maybe more... v1.1 is the DX version, I think. Notable fixes were the ability to not get stuck in L4, and the select glitch.. v1.2 I've never actually studied throughly , but if they fixed things like the bomb arrows... that wasn't a bug. :\

If we don't publish cheating runs, why would some runs such as the Link's Awakening one get published? I think it should be accepted if it's good and does the job; as he said, starting on the last level with no special weapons and 3 lives is generally suicide, so it could also be included under 'plays at hard(er) level'. (note: for most of this, I was merely talking out of my buttocks and have not watched the run yet, though if it cuts out extreme repititon it's better than a full one with almost no changes)

Well, hmm, are you doing a normal run on B/W? If so, maybe I'll just do a 100% run on DX...

Almost exactly like that, yep... just make it show up all the time (underneath the frame counter?) in VBA and it'd be perfect... I guess that about solves the problems I've been having, finally :P

(yes, it really is running at 16%, and you can see it still wonking out even at 2x) ...unsuprisingly, changing it to 16bit fixes the problem. Ugh. The only problem now is making it work... in 24bit... shrug. Naturally, all of the filters are enabled now (not on, just selectable) but some videomodes (DDraw Emulation Only) still crash the emu on display. aside from this rambling, would it be possible to include another row of display, for keys currently held down by Autohold or even normally? this would make frame advance that much easier, since it would be easy to tell what was on and not between frames (even though they're updatedon change, some of us are stupid and can't remember 5 seconds) =p

In DX, if a Piece of Power or Guardian Acorn pops up, if you hit Start right after you pick one up, you can prevent the messagebox from popping up. I haven't measured it, but doing that and immediately dumping out of the subscreen seems to be a bit faster, plus the incentive of walking faster is quite lucrative in the case of the Piece of Power. You have to be careful, however, because I've had the game freeze in the middle of one of the fades between the subscreen and the game screen. It's definitely avoidable as it happens less often than not, but I haven't determined the cause of this glitch. I've also never gotten this to work with any other messageboxes. Only the ones generated by picking up either a Piece of Power or Guardian Acorn.
You can skip it in B/W by using SSAB to go to the save screen, also.

Only once, and purely for asthetical purposes... it wuoldn't affect the actual time by much, if at all (the gain by skipping the walrus would probably be made up by Marin's miniature speeches). [shrug]
