Also, if you were to not submit runs until you were 100% positive there would never be any improvement, there would never be new movies. There are always new things to discover, even in the most basic of games (SMB's been obsoleted and redone how many times?). A lot of runs are just "I've played this several times, and this is utilizing all time-savers I currently know of." It also challenges other people to best that movie, to find new techniques the original author may have missed. Of course, any movie that has obvious flaws, or flaws the author already knows about and isn't correcting should not be published, unless the mistakes add up to an nelegible* amount of time lost, such as in the MM6 TAS with the 1-3 frame ladder trick. * incorrect spelling

I was just wondering about that. Thanks for the info. :)
I remember that graph from a while ago. I still get a chuckle out of it every now and then.

But it feels robotic, i think for slow games at least, you could still have the character bashing through a castle killing everything and getting away with it unharmed. He wouldn't let a stupid bat hit him just to move 1 pixel faster. I know, thats what "as fast as possible" is about, but having the character go unharmed is more entertaining, to me. Even if taking damage is faster, it feels imperfect.
There are some really good movies that abuse damage, like the Castlevania CotM run, but a lot of times damage-taking isn't terribly interesting; it's mostly good if you have very limited HP, and things give lots of damage, so it requires a lot of planning to take.

Wow. This run only goes at two speeds: fast, and holy shit where'd Sonic go. Best run I've seen this year. Absoloutely incredible. (also note: run is now in my personal top 5 ranking)

Hey great, the ROM I downloaded has a crappy intro which means no movie for me. Balkablfbkj. I was just wondering if anyone who happened to have both the ROM with and without the intro would mind making an IPS patch to remove it (or specific instructions of what to change back in the ROM, so I can watch it) as I'm on dialup and redownloading 8 MB somewhere else is not fun.

Must have been a password? Because that's exactly how you get into the tube, by jumping in the air on that very same scene, but later on in the game after going back in time with more powers.
Correct; however, it may be possible to trigger the scene change at the start (since I'm fairly positive it's the same map, just some different flags). Since Ecco never touches the physical top-of-screen boundary during the normal start, and it appears to be impossible to reach it normally (jumping only goes so far), it may trigger if you get up high enough. ...of course, assuming that it didn't update the "No Air Limit" flag, it'd be fairly useless, given you would run out of air (and therefore, health) since there are no air bubbles in The Machine. Oh well. Might still be an interesting bug to check out, if only to find out if the programmers were indeed that lazy, hehe.

Thank you! I will go watch this now... --- Post-watch edit: Not bad. I couldn't find any obvious errors, although I think it was mostly because of that HOLY CRAP FLASHING COLORS-induced headache near the end. Durrrrrrrrgghgh. A lot of the 'idle back-and-forth'ing was somewhat weird and out of place, assuming that was what it was... and the end boss fight just sucked (far to repitive), although it was still a nice playthough and end bosses are supposed to be annoying. Yes vote from me.

Plays the japanese version but its translated to english.
Woah, wait, is this a official translation or a fan translation? Last I checked, fan translations aren't accepted, and neither the submission text nor ROM name are very informative.

I watched this at about 2 AM. For completing this game without taking any damage, you deserve a medal. ...and now that my loaded page isn't from 2 AM anymore...
Stars are not to be given away lightly. As far as I remember the pool of stars is constant. When one thing gets a star a different one has to lose it. Maybe when suggesting a run for a star we also should suggest a run that should lose it. I have seen most of them, and while I dislike a few of them, I cannot find a run that is bad enough to lose it's star to Ecco.
Either I've been asleep for the past year and a half or there's no such rule; if there was, there would be only one (or at the least, very, very few) starred movies.

Remember: superplay does not always mean superspeed. I'll try viewing this soon. Sounds like fun.

I wish more games were insane like this. Great amusement for thirty minutes. Especially watching him move with no legs. xD

Actually, it doesn't even run properly on a real NES...

Actually, if this happens even without doing anything, make sure you don't have any game genie codes active. If you don't, it's very likely you are using a patched ROM...

I'm almost positive you use Up, Select, and B at the same time to store (and retrieve) a Kuribo Shoe. (it's indicated by a "K" on the lower left of the status bar.) I know you can store it somehow, since one of my savestates for Mario Adventure (before I stopped playing it due to a stupid inventory bug) had a K there, and I remember reading about it. :P

If you're using VCL, go through the options (the sound ones, specifically) and see if the sample rate is set to -1. If so, usually setting it to 44000 or something will fix it. I had the same problem...

For some reason, the star appears only on the front page; it's not on the movies list or the starred movies list.

Watched the whole thing in (almost) one sitting. This movie is incredible for managing to keep my interest to the very end, all while showing off various tricks in this game. I would definitely not mind a star on this. (PS: The level "...?" is weird, too bad I couldn't snap a screenshot or savestate of it...)

I think it even got cut off at the end, it was so long. I will put this as priority numero uno for watching. I mean... damn.

Well, the author of this hack is working on another one, that's even bigger (and two games in one, heh). I wouldn't go so far as to call it 'amatuer' -- there are many, many worse hacks out there, and this one required a lot of skill to hack (programming in 6052 assembly isn't easy). I always considered this to be one of the best hacks out there, second only to Demo World TLC, and it's plenty hard (which would make it somewhat interesting, to see a challenging game beaten in no time), but some things are quite chaotic in design. Overall, I still think this would be an interesting movie, and if it's not, the hack he's been working on now definitely will be when it's released. Edit: I found the page dealing with the hack I speak of -- http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=16478 -- it's pretty nice, but the screenshots have been deleted; he's uploading more soon.

Probably not much. I did watch this though (With my readily available NTSC ROM, joy) and I mean damn. Twice as fast as the current one, you'd have to be crazy to say no.
