Yes vote, though I'll admit that some of the levels made the small-only thing feel a bit contrived.

I'm not going to list any analogies that make your point moot, but I do need to say this one more time: you're still blaming the program for what people are doing with it. I can't stress this enough: it is illogical to blame an unbiased non-feeling entity for the immoral acts that people use it for.

You're blaming an awesome program for the criminal things that people do with them. That's not fair to the people who use torrenting for non-illegal things. Next you're going to blaming speedboats for the fact that drug smuggling occurs on coastal borders...

Real time is recorded; in game time is not. Also, taking damage or not taking damage does not matter, so long as you only take damage to save time.

Does tasvideos have exclusive rights for the videos? Is it implied that only tasvideos has permission to distribute the runs? I haven't found info on that in the FAQ.
We don't have the explicitly exclusive rights, but I definitely feel that it is implicit. That could just be me, though. I know that I generally wouldn't care if one of my (not obsolete) runs was posted on YouTube if there was an official account there from our site, but if my work popped up on some stupid site like ebaumsworld or Twin Galaxies, I would be pissed off. If people wanted their work posted elsewhere, wouldn't they submit them elsewhere/post them elsewhere themselves? Like, a lot of the runs on this site were also submitted to speedruns.net, so that shows that they are cognizant of other options besides us, and that if they choose to have more exposure, they have the ability to deem it so. That being said, I don't know a whole lot about what is covered under fair use, or what fair use even is

ver, I think it's safer to simply ask the authors if they're ok with you putting their work up elsewhere, rather than doing so and running the risk of upsetting someone.

Let's face it: Probably none of us first saw whatever was the first TAS we saw from tasvideos. Of nearly all the people who saw the 11 minute SMB3 run, they saw it on Youtube or a similar site. Very few saw it on Morimoto's website.
Err, I saw it through nesvideos, way way back in the day.

That's why I said game-breaking. Reaching huge speeds in order to enter walls and zip around to skip in game checks is fairly broken to me, whereas entering a room before an obstacle can lower itself in front of you/reaching high speeds using a cool technique isn't so broken.

Why though? It's just distribution. Besides, if the author doesn't want the video hosted, he can ask to have the video removed. A preliminary permission seems overly restrictive.
Courtesy aside, even if it is free distribution, it's still an act of redistribution, which most primary creators hold all rights to. Sure, if someone didn't want their work on YouTube, they could ask that it be taken down: however, what are the odds that said person is going to be expecting their run to be online/go looking for it? It seems, to me, that the person wanting to post the run online should approach the person for their permission, rather than posting it and expecting that the author will find out/contact them if they want it removed. Makes sense?

I think this is the same situation as Aria of Sorrow. We have run that uses game breaking glitches, a run that uses non-breaking route/tactics, and then a NG+ character set aside. The same can pretty much be applied here.

Not all people have the same laws that your region does. That being said, emulators and ROMs aren't always expressly illegal in all situations at any time ever. That being said, I'm going to stick to my elitist guns and say that if people really wanted to watch the movies that we produce, they would deal with the emu/ROM or torrent situations. Harumpf.

Yeah, but YouTube drawns in all the wrong sorts. There's a reason that SDA refers to the worst of the forums as "YouTubers." We have a few of them on our forums, too...

You have to have the permission of the original author of the runs before you can host them. Otherwise, the author can have YouTube remove the video (and in repeated offenses, block YouTube accounts). Honestly, though; why put them up on YouTube? Is it so much of a hassle to come to our site and download the files like everyone else does?

Obvious Yes vote. What a great improvement. Can someone explain the hyper damage that Julius does on some of the bosses?

Why are you so set on making bigame runs? Why not just improve the runs that already exist?

Make a savestate where you want to record from whilst watching the playback of a recorded file. Then, load the savestate (make sure the file is not Read-Only) while the recording is playing, and you will begin recording from that savestate.

I think that the submission queue tags really only adhere to the consequences within the submission queue. That being said, a published movie is marked as published, even though it was submitted, because that was the only actual action by the submission queue on the submission. The fact that file A was obsoleted by file B's publication matters not to the submission text, for the obsoleting took place outside of the submission queue.

Current WIP is retrieving the first library book, at the point where the fireplace is extinguished. Seriously, don't post useless bumps when you could just PM Atma or bug him on IRC.

Voting No. It could be faster, as hanzou mentioned, and I generally wasn't impressed with the movie at all. However, I accept that this will be a shoe-in for publication once it is optimized. e: Can the two Yes votes please explain the reason for their votes? I know you don't have to, but it defeats the purpose of voting if you're not going to explain it.

I knew it was improvable by at least 2 minutes, but I am pleasantly surprised. Will watch ASAP. e: Looks great. Crystal choices were great (never knew pre-boss Goblins carried them...), and some new techniques (short jump) are an added improvement. It was great to see that you too had to deal with the odd boss hit-detection and -reactions that I had to struggle with, as well. This makes me happy all over. I don't see 50 seconds being saved from damage, though. Maybe more like 20-30 seconds, but not 50. In the room with the zombies (around frame 13000), I'm pretty sure you can land and trip up on the last zombie in one motion, rather than landing, walking, tripping. I assume you've already tried it and whatnot, but a response would be cool. There is also a ledge at ~31000 (after killing the blob monster) that I think I did faster in my old run. If you do a running mid-air roundhouse kick, you will clear the ledge with the purple hopper and still grab the ledge without touching the spikes. I could be wrong, though. So I'm basically giving this a Yes vote, so long as you tell me that you are somewhat sure that those two spots aren't improvable.
