Aren't you a little too close to Solvaring to dodge his attacks after you melee him?
If memory serves me well, you can just barely dodge the huge dirt explosion if you melee from the farthest distance. I used to do it like that when I played the game way back in the day, since I (as I said before) thought that the staff was the strongest attack up until beating Zephyr. I could be wrong, but it's worth looking in to, since it should speed up the battle a bit. Why doesn't Fire Fox have the word melee in its dictionary?

e: You can call me Reading Joe! What I didn't turbo through was fairly interesting, though I wonder if Solvaring would have been faster with just constant melee and dodge tactics. Regardless, keep at it!

For starters, there is no 'fight' here. Never did I say anything was an official classification. You, comicalflop, said "sometimes it can be exclusive," which allows me to air my opinion about exclusivity. I understand that you don't find it to be negative, and I never said that you thought it was a bad thing. I merely submitted a statement with a slight support. If you disagree with my statement that exclusivity to a system or game type is limiting and, therefore, not a good thing, I invite you to give a rebuttal. Afterall, I don't think either of you actually responded to what I said. Being dismissive with "you're being too sensitive/aggressive" or "you're interpreting a situation [incorrectly]" does no one any good, but it does a lot of bad by forcing me to write out this drawn out statement that will hopefully pull us out of the ditch we have so craftily curmugeoned our way in to. The ball is in your court. Haughtily yours -Z

So, in short, we are classifying people now? I think it's pretty weak to label like that, but I guess you non-universally applied runners need to be proud of something. e: Exclusivity denotes a lot. I think someone binding themself to a system or specific type of game exclusively is limiting themselves, thereby shortchanging themselves and the community. Deign: Like I think that girl from the Verizon commercial "says" (I think); "tibby up you [homie]?"

comicalflop 2 da rez-q (read: limit) e: Wait, what is a "N64-TASer"? Do we really assign people to certain systems now? Anyone who will only work with one system is a lot of phrases I'm not allowed to use as per verbal contract with Bisq-Master 5-thizzle. A lot of negative phrases, mind you.

For a quick example of what I'm talking about: I made this quick movie file because it shows a quick use of L and R to do tricks. I then loaded the vbm in the TAS Editor, which recognized it as a GB file (not GBA). Without changing anything from the original, I saved the TAS Editor's version of the vbm as this file. You'll see that the tricks are not pulled off, obviously. So uh, have a field day with it. If other people aren't having this problem, I guess it's an error on my part. However, I don't see why the editor would assume that my vbms are GB oriented, rather than what VBA deems it. Maybe a quick fix would be to have the editor assume that all vbm files can use the GBA's inputs(A B L R < > /\ \/ S s). That way, GBA is covered, and GB/GBC simply won't be affected by L R inputs. Just a thought.

Righto. Maximus' editor is giving me the problems, not TASHex. If you need the vbms for testing, just ask.

I thought the fastest way to deal damage was pumping the Fire spell that makes you staff melee crazy buffed...

I'm loving your program so far, Maximus. My only qualm is that it seems to drop L/R inputs for GBA vbm files. When I load GBA vbm files, TASHex tells me that it is a GB vbm, not GBA. I guess that makes TASHex assume that shoulder buttons are not a factor. Any idea why that is? This happens to 80% of my splice attempts, and it seems like vbms from outdated VBA builds don't have this problem.

Simplest solution: Use (U) if all versions are virtually the same. However, if there is a technique/skip that cuts a lot of useless space or additionally entertaining/non-hindering content in another version, then one should take in to account at what point they feel speed is more important than entertainment, or vice-versa. The last thing we need is someone changing from a beautiful and fluid version to a gaudy and disjointed version just to save 10 frames on the title screen, or something. Along with that, it seems illogical to switch to a version that is 5% longer just to incorporate a more visually appetizing background image in one level, or something like that.

Giving this a yes vote. The playthrough was faster/more entertaining before, and the version change seems justified. Good job.

I'll grant you that a Diablo 3 would usurp GW any day, but that day won't come until years after WoW dies. That being said, I'd suggest you simply accept both games as complimentary solutions to the problem. One is great mindless fun: the other is great tactical fun. Woop. As for a beautiful zombie; I need only mention one word: Thriller

Mechuyael: You mean Hybrid Heaven. Tub: How is Guild Wars not like a beautiful 3D Diablo2? Also, what of Hellgate London? Warp: There is a game called Sango Fighter (I think) from the early 90s that matches an Asian RPG + 2D fighter (I think).

Training is unecessary. I use dash/dash cancels for movement. There are lots of *-cancels in this game. There are some bananasly odd situations where dashing is not faster! :o For destroying anything with the drill, drilling is dash cancelled on the first possible frame after the wall erodes. Other than that broad statement, each encounter is handled uniquely. It's a toss up between shifting, cumulative damage, and outright speed. Before each jump/wall/enemy/etc, I figure out all possible actions and test them all. The only portion I'm not confident in at the momement is the forced minion battle halfway through 1-2, so I'm reworking from there.

Thanks guys! I used your inspiring feedback to make 10 seconds of improvements! e: I guess if you want something to work from, I'll say that the finished product should be less than 2 hours in length. I did a sloppy test run (durr) using 75% speed and lax savestates to get a rough finish time of 2:19. However, I've already shaved a minute or two off of that at the end of 1-2.

Well, because I don't want to. The run will be a little under 2 hours, which equates to a lot of WIPs. That, mixed with the fact that people will simply mooch off of them without giving any real feedback ("Great job" and "Keep up the good work" are terrible examples of feedbacl). That being said, hold your breath like I advised earlier. If you've played the game, it's not that hard to figure out where I am: there are only 5 or 6 levels. 1-2 ends with the Scorpion Tank boss battle. Up next is the Art Gallery.

I'm working on it, actually. Done with the first complete stage (1-2) and making steady progress. I don't plan to post a WIP, though, so hold your breath for some WEEKS.

So why even watch the runs then? Why not simply note that a faster run has been completed, maybe read over the submission texts, and then nod your head? I don't want to stir up that age old debate of time vs entertainmrnt, but I'll say this: boring movies will never be not boring.
