x264 is naught but the best damn h.264 encoder period but some programs that process videos for Flash streaming don't quite know how to deal with such optimized video files; YouTube may warp the colors, and archive.org may wash out the detail from the original

Now I've never played the game that far...but how far is it possible to level up in each type of skill?

Indeed, the original direct link works. All of Archive's transcodes were bad, though.
it might be that newfangled crf targeting that archive.org's copy of adobe media encoder doesn't know what the fuck lol

I enjoy seeing how Luigi can sometimes escape the gravity field of all of the planets and then get pulled toward the outside, ending with a poof and a "TOO BAD!": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiR-lBjwbW0

What should be noted is that Windows 2000 is no longer supported, so if you want to compile something for Win2K you need Visual Studio 2008

There's also a third contender for the title: Lightspark.
so it looks like the powers of Lightspark and Gnash could combine to make an open-source solution for playing SWF files: Lightspark for the new stuff and Gnash for the dinosaurs.

The shots in which you VANQUISH balls are intriguing; how did you get the balls to go away without pocketing them?

Archive.org Linky Direct Linky
Once again the version used on archive.org streaming is terrible; the direct link is a better idea. I didn't remember the streaming Flash versions being this consistently terrible, just the Ogg versions...

I can barely wait for the good folks at SDA to bring out a run, but a TAS will need to wait a while (unless its engine is so similar to the original Super Mario Galaxy that much of the work setting up that TAS can be transferred to this one).

I'm working on something like this, it's in a very early stage and it can only play toy examples (no interactivity either). Details: http://people.inf.elte.hu/gyorokp/download/freesf/freesf.html Unfortunately I can't work on it right now, don't expect progress on it until mid summer at best.
have you considered contributing to gnash or swfdec

yes, but mostly whenever I was trying to use the OGG version, and I could understand problems transcoding from H.264 to Theora anyway I just downloaded the original and it is of most excellent quality, I hope webnations or someone else with long-video ability puts it up on YouTube.

hmm...not even the "512kb MP4" version looks good; could you put the original on MegaUpload or something (assuming you originally had an MKV or something with better quality)
The MP4 linked to in "Direct Linky" above is the original file. EDIT: For the record, I have reviewed the encode in that form and it is up to the site's standards (in my expert opinion).
sorry, I thought the "512kb" one was closer to the original, because it was larger and it looked like the Flash video...downloading now

thanx for also linking to the page with the Flash player; I'd rather not wait for the whole video to download before I can view it
