There's a binary called degavi for Linux that lets you capture the game. Maybe it's even compilable for MinGW, but I have no idea about that.
I might try hacking away to see whether I can get the patch to be applied to Dega 1.15, and by the way the binary that ShinyDoofy referred to is made by applying this patch in Linux to Dega 1.14: http://bisqwit.iki.fi/src/dega-bisqwit-makingavi-patch.txt http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/MakingAVI/Dega/Linux.html Another excellent project would be getting the memory watcher to work with Python 2.6...

What is the best way to "git" the code on Windows? I downloaded each individual file from my browser.
snapshot, preferably the latest one, of course.
I was trying to be funny, but what I meant to ask is what the best program for doing this is, I actually went through the tree and got each individual file from my Web browser, and I remember that at least in Linux you can use a git client to access the repository more easily, and I wondered whether you had a recommendation for Windows users, like an analogue to TortoiseSVN. EDIT This turns out to be the only native Windows app that can git anything: http://code.google.com/p/msysgit/ Also despite installing Python 2.5 (I already had 2.6) and setting a new PYTHON_PREFIX system variable (I already had PYTHONPATH), I get tons of errors compiling pydega.c...oh, hurrrrr PYTHON_PREFIX is in the makefile, not my system environment variables FINAL EDIT In the end all I had to do was install Python 2.5 and change that PYTHON_PREFIX and create what turned out to be an empty specs file; that first fix mentioned was not necessary in my case, but that might be because I had previously put most of the MSYS utilities in my system path, so I had a command interpreter that understood ";" and "./" properly.

It does seem that math requirements are being reduced, even from college level course work. Many engineering majors offer "methods" classes in place of taking calc 3, which teaches use of major specific software. I think its a bad idea to reward pople for not understanding math.
I don't know what methods are taught, but I would think that the techniques go beyond what is taught in calculus 3 (less time spent on "why" means more time spent on "what"), and also knowing how to use that software (probably MATLAB, R, possibly SAS, SPSS, MathCAD, Maple, or Mathematica) is an important skill itself.

If this plugin is still being worked on, it would be nice to be able to hide the window completely or at least not have it always on top.

What do they teach at grade school nowadays?
I never learned "floor" or "mod" in school until I took a class on programming in college (I had looked them up in high school), although the related concepts of "front-end estimation" and "remainder" were taught in grade school (early 1990s, small-town USA). I don't know how old you are andymac, but the use of the ClassPad makes me weep for Amurrikkka.

Yeah, just make sure to REPLY and not MAKE A NEW TOPIC for every thing you want to say. Also, if you want to TAS Kirby 64 then post in the Kirby 64 topic. Follow the rules on this site also and you'll be fine.
The computer told me to add a subject, I wouldn't figure it's make a new thread!
ok, you can press the "quote" button on someone's post to instantly make a reply, that's the best way...otherwise you press the "post reply" button at the end of the thread, not the "new topic" button to its left

We also produce playaround videos here at times. Many of them do not get published because the criteria is vague. All good TASers should show off whenever possible if it does not cost time.
Where are these playaround videos that have been reject for vague criteria?
I don't think they're properly submitted, because their creators already knew they were not worthy of publication; dig around in the threads.

RT-55J, read the thread and you will find gems like this:

Perhaps the only thing that could be considered an issue is whether or not to insert a filler bar of something to such an effect for games such as contra 4, sonic rush/adventure, yoshi's island 2 etc. where there is roughly a 48 or 64 (it's been a while since I checked, it's most likely 64) pixel gap between what's displayed on the top/bottom screens. In contra for example without the gap, it appears that bullets just magically disappear for several frames and then appear quite a fair amount of pixels to the right of where they should be if you don't factor in the between-screens space.

Ahh, another academic year ending, another crop of newbies flooding in...of course, although I joined here a year ago, at the end of that school year, I did at least have the sense to read the FAQs. (To be fair though the first thing I tried to use to open a VBM or SMV or FCM was the emulator directly, thinking it would try to load the ROM and play the movie right away and perhaps throw an error if the ROM weren't available.)

Well, I do not typically like TAS Videos, maby because of how they are advertised more so than how they are made. Like you will have a video of a guy beating some game in 14 seconds without making a single mistake at all... no one ever mentions that he played the game very slow, plays with recorded chops, used a bot, or downright altered the game in some way. Rather its present as "some guy with good skill playing a game", and when you put that next to people who actually do speed runs it basically steps all over them. Also when someone does an SDA run, they have to look all that information up aswell, in terms of the backgrounds, the routes, how the game works, the RNG, etc etc...
A bunch of shitty YouTubers have ruined the good name of Tool-Assisted Speedruns, but anything emanating from tasvideos is clearly and unmistakably marked as having been made with numerous re-records and frame advance, and almost everyone who uploads an encode to YouTube ends up just blocking every blockhead who continues to insist, after all the notices, that a TAS is cheating. P.S.: Just because it's tool-assisted doesn't mean it's a TAS; in particular a freerun is not a TAS.

It's a really bad idea to load your CSS using JavaScript.
I agree fully with the sentiment and the reasons listed. This is Sir VG's site, as shown on my browser by default.
Howdy pardner! Seriously though, CSS should be loaded without Javascript (at least a "default" stylesheet for those with scripts turned off), and if you want to fix the IE6 transparency issue look here: http://designoahu.com/ie-png-transparency

My avatar has long been the Opera logo:-( I guess it takes people a while to discover Opera; I know I was an IE fan back in 2003, and I heard about Opera shortly afterward but stayed away because you had to pay to remove the ads...and then I didn't learn it had become completely free until a year afterward and even then it took a while before I left Firefox behind in 2007.

http://www.opera.com/press/releases/2009/04/28/ 1994: the year that started it all Celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Opera browser’s origin Oslo, Norway — April 28, 2009 Fifteen years ago, two computer scientists sat at their desks in a research lab in what is today Telenor, Norway’s telecommunications incumbent, itching to begin a new project. They were going to build their own Web browser. Those first keystrokes would become Opera, the browser that has set — and continues to set — the standard for browser innovation. Jon von Tetzchner, the CEO of Opera Software, and Geir Ivarsøy began coding the original desktop Web browser in April 1994. Today, about 40 million people use Opera on their Windows, Mac and Linux computers. “Geir and I knew the Web would forever change how people live, work and play — the Web browser would be the tool to enable that transformation,” said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera. “Today, I am humbled by what our company, together with the worldwide community of Opera users, has achieved. In the next 15 years, billions of people will join the Web. I am confident we will give them even more reasons to choose Opera. Everyone deserves a good browser, regardless of how or where they connect to the Web.” The original Opera desktop browser paved the way for Opera to create a single, cross-platform browser engine. Because this browser core works anywhere, Opera now powers the Web experience on a stunning array of devices. From TVs, set-top boxes and media players to mobile phones, game consoles, cars and computers, today Opera is available to hundreds of millions of people around the world. 15 years of browser innovation A relentless focus on the user has propelled innovation at Opera from the first day through today. Opera’s desktop browser has introduced new features and innovations that keep our users productive, inspired and engaged on the Web. With Opera’s first public release, we laid the foundation for tabbed browsing by allowing multiple documents in the same browsing window. In 2001, Opera introduced Mouse Gestures which radically improves how people navigate the Web. New innovations focused on keeping our users productive and organized. A note-taking feature in the browser, the original Speed Dial for a person’s favorite sites, Opera Link to keep data synchronized and available anywhere set the stage for Opera’s ongoing evolution. This year, Opera has already unveiled Opera Turbo, which compresses pages to give broadband-like speeds on almost any Internet connection. Yet there is much more to come. Stay tuned to see how we think the Web will evolve next. Resources Settle the debate. Specter To Switch Parties Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter will switch his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat and announced today that he will run in 2010 as a Democrat, according to a statement he released this morning. Specter's decision would give Democrats a 60 seat filibuster proof majority in the Senate assuming Democrat Al Franken is eventually sworn in as the next senator from Minnesota. (Former senator Norm Coleman is appealing Franken's victory in the state Supreme Court.) "I have decided to run for re-election in 2010 in the Democratic primary," said Specter in a statement. "I am ready, willing and anxious to take on all comers and have my candidacy for re-election determined in a general election." He added: "Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans." President Obama was informed of Specter's decision at around 10:25 a.m., according to White House officials, and reached out to the senator minutes later to tell him "you have my full support," and we are "thrilled to have you." Specter as a Democrat would also fundamentally alter the 2010 calculus in Pennsylvania as he was expected to face a difficult primary challenge next year from former Rep. Pat Toomey. The only announced Democrat in the race is former National Constitution Center head Joe Torsella although several other candidates are looking at the race. The precariousness of Specter's political position -- a Republican in a Democratic-leaning state -- was on display earlier this year when he was one of three GOP senators to back President Obama's $787 billion economic stimulus plan. That vote was strongly condemned by conservative Republicans and Toomey used that vote as the launching pad for his candidacy. Because of the shrinking Republican vote in the state, Specter was seen as a dead man walking politically in the primary with polling showing him trailing Toomey by ten or more points. The bar for Specter to run as an independent was also extremely high due to the rules governing such a third party candidacy. That left a Democratic candidacy as Specter's best option if he wanted to remain in the Senate beyond 2010. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/senate/specter-to-switch-parties.html?hpid=topnews 1. He was originally a Democrat who switched to Republican to challenge a corrupt political machine. 2. Now he will probably vote for EFCA after all, which is reasonable considering he had previously co-sponsored it.
