Honestly the only big thing I'm missing from a couple years back when I started watching the site is that it's pretty rare to get to watch a TAS of a game that a) I've played before, and b) hasn't been TASed yet (I think the most recent one for me that really qualified was the 2P Gunstar Super Heroes TAS). I imagine this is true for most people. Given how much more entertaining TASes are when you've played the game in question, it's easy to see that as the commonly-played games have all gotten TASes, the general entertainment level of the site has tailed off a bit.
Let's hope and pray that DeSmuME evolves to rival NO$GBA and can be extended to allow tool assistance (or IDeaS, if Lino opens the source), and that the disc-based systems other than PS1 and Sega CD also get TAS-capable open-source emulators that run on Linux; the Saturn emulator Yabause looks like a promising new frontier, and oh yeah I almost forgot about the Virtual Boy, which can be emulated with the open-source Red Dragon on Windows, Linux, or PSP (not that there will be much interest in Virtual Boy TAS videos lol).

Well roms, savegames, savestates, and input files have no image data, but you can take a screenshot with the emulator and name it "Folder.jpg"...

Collision in water is likely like so: Water volumes likely have a minX and a maxX and same for Y. If Mario's X GREATERTHAN water's minX and mario's X LESSTHAN water's maxX and mario's Y GREATERTHAN water's minY and mario's Y LESSTHAN water's maxY and mario's Z LESSTHAN water's surface Z (maxZ?), then underwater. Edit: bbcode needs to stop destroying this post. :( I've fixed it like 3 times now EDIT4: JESUS CHRIST BBCODE STOP FUCKING WITH GREATER THAN AND LESS THAN
see the lessthan and greaterthan signs are html delimiters, so if you want to output the symbols use character entity references: lt; and gt; prefixed by & (< and >) edit: Is there no way to type those symbols?

I'm impressed by your age. I didn't join until I was 18, and when I was 12 I don't believe I had heard about emulators yet. Welcome to the community.
I didn't hear about emulation until I was 20, and I didn't join until I was 23 (I'm 23 now but will I never see 24?), so I guess I'm a loser.

I think the OP should write a Java program with Swing that interprets all that talk about threads to refer to little anthropomorphic threads of yarn.

I didn't know that lolcats used "pl0x"; I thought it came forth from the sewers of 4chan (then again, so did the lolcats). Anyway, I had thought that the new feature was allowing people to contact each other via Skype, and for some reason the Skype button was colored for a different color scheme; it really should be recolored to fit in with the other buttons.

What does it sound like? Does ZSNES or BSNES emulate it properly? I've never played the game on a console and only discovered its awesomeness in 2005.

btw, how do you insert a word instead of the real URL? someone plz tell me!
In the URL tag, type an = after "[URL" and paste in the url; then put the words between the tags, just as the help prompt says when you mouseover the "URL" button.

Microsoft distributes service packs for both 2.0 and 3.0 seperately via Microsoft Windows, so both versions are installed side by side.
IMO just install 3.5 SP1 (which auto-installs fully upgraded 2.0 and 3.0) and 1.1 SP1 and you should be all set.

Here's a problem. Find the last 10 digits of the following number: It's easier than it looks.
I guessed the answer is 0. A little Python computation tells me I'm right. I don't have the appropriate math skills to tell you why, though.
I guess you need to find K, the first value of k for which the product of that expression from 3 to K has 10^10 as a factor; then show that the sum of those products for n between 0 and (K-3)/4 is also divisible by 10^10.

You can't play a game on an emulator unless you have a ROM of it. We can't tell you where to find one, but Google is your friend.
Technically that only applies if the game originally used a ROM (Read-Only Memory) chip or something similar enough, like an EEPROM or Flash memory; copies of the game data for disc-based systems are ISOs (after the ISO 9660 standard, where the ISO is the International Organization for Standardization) or may have been decomposed into BIN (raw binary), audio data (like WAV and MP3), and CUE (a cue sheet, which tells the system which audio file corresponds to each track), while the Intellivision emulator and any potential emulator for the original Breakout actually need to emulate discrete logic circuits (jumper paks in the case of Intellivision). Anyway, to do the kind of speedruns that we do with an emulator, you need a special version of the emulator with such features as savestate rerecording (the ability to seamlessly revert to a savestate while recording your progress) and frame advance (the ability to input each frame individually and only move to the next frame when you are ready): http://tasvideos.org/WhyAndHow.html

AHEM. Hey, jaded Sonic Fans! You're either completely ignoring or forgetting (and, either way, it's a crime) about these recent gems, according to GameRankings: Sonic Advance: 83.4% Sonic Advance 2: 85.7% Sonic Advance 3: 80.0% Sonic Rush: 82.8% Sonic Rush Adventure: 80.2% Though I suppose I can't entirely blame you; after all, handheld Sonic games have been either ignored or forgotten since the very beginning.
I have neither ignored nor forgotten them, and I certainly wish they can finally make a 3D Sonic game with the design qualities of the 2D games.

Well, to be honest, I haven't even used the emulator since my last post! I might have started a TAS if other people were interested (ie. had replied to my last post), but it seems that isn't the case. Anyway, I may possibly renew my interest in TASing at the end of the year when I'm on my long university break... but I don't think I should make any promises...
People get interested once you start posting WIPs, if they're good enough one of the regulars could even encode an AVI or MKV and thereby attract more interest.

And this, my friend, is why http downloads are better than torrents: I can't remember the last time I had 1/10th of that speed with a torrent.
It depends on the bandwidth of the site you're downloading from and the upload bandwidth of the seeds and peers, respectively; archive.org has massive bandwidth, while MediaFire and QShare are a bit slower, and well-seeded torrents are faster than poorly-seeded ones. I guess a good rule of thumb is that for all but the largest of legitimate files (like open-source programs and SDA runs), HTTP downloads are faster, but for warez, pirated media, and free operating system images, you may do better with torrents.

It's a bit long for a platform game on GB, though. Or maybe I'm more used to Super Mario Land.
You're definitely more used to Super Mario Land; look at the Wario Land and Donkey Kong Land series and you'll see what I mean, those are very long.
