I only knew about the Kobold from Quest 64, and it didn't seem all that pathetic there... Anyway, I just came up with this name randomly, and unlike a lot of netizens I don't like to be traced to one single name.

Wow, you'd think Nintendo would have fixed that for the SNES remake; I wonder whether the Super Mario Advance games are like that too.

Okay, it turns out that this run doesn't desynch with the Super Mario All-Stars + World ROM even though the CRCs are very different, but with the other two I tried (both All-Stars without World) it didn't get past the Lost Levels startup menu. I also found a humorous glitch in All-Stars + World; Apparently if you face left while swimming right, the game doesn't load the correct sprite data:

Please re-make this using a ROM with a good checksum; it desynched with mine and even with a ROM from a site suggested by your movie file.

I always prefer Wikipedia over Zophar, but anyway Kega Fusion is my preferred emulator for nearly every pre-Saturn Sega system out there, too bad that one hasn't been hacked to do TASes so I still need Gens and Dega to watch them.

Just stack a whole bunch of these together; they are small and energy-efficient and they do not come with Windows by default, though judging from the other posts in this thread it seems as if a 500MHz CPU and 256MB of RAM (with no possibility of upgrade) may be insufficient for your needs. http://www.fit-pc.com/new/specifications.html Specifications Hardware CPU: AMD Geode LX800 500MHz Chipset: AMD CS5536 Display: Integrated Geode LX display controller up to 1920x1440 Memory: 256MB DDR 333MHz soldered on-board Hard disk: 2.5” IDE 60GB Ports: 2 x RJ45 Ethernet ports 100Mbps 2 x USB 2.0 HiSpeed 480Mbps RJ11 RS-232 (cable supplied) VGA DB15 Stereo line-out audio (headphones) Stereo line-in audio / Mic Software General Software Embedded BIOS Special BIOS features: Etherboot for boot over LAN Etherlink for BIOS update over LAN Linux: Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) - Preloaded Gentoo – optimized for fit-PC - available as an ISO image Other Linux distributions are tested to work Windows: XP Home/Pro Mechanical and environmental Splash and dust resistant enclosure Material: Aluminum Finish: Black anodized Width: 116mm Length: 120mm Height: 40mm Weight: 500g Operating temperature: 0-70C Power: 5V single supply Power consumption: 3-5W Certifications CE, FCC Class B for Home or Office Use (see certificate) Package contents fit-PC computer (p/n ENC-iGLX-HDD) according to specification AC adapter - 110/230 to 5.0 volt AC cable (U.S. plug) RJ11 to DB9 RS-232 serial cable Price: $259 + S&H S&H (first unit in a shipment): $20 inside Israel, $60 to North America and Europe, $80 elsewhere Add half the initial S&H for additional units in a shipment. Also for all I know they might soon upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 now that it's available, just as they recently upgraded from a 40GB to a 60GB HDD.

I thought Dega worked with both Master System and Game Gear ROMs (maybe also SG-1000?)...

Unlike superjupi, I am able to mirror-image my controller layout onto the keyboard: D-Pad->Arrow keys Start->Space Select, Mode->Q B/A, 2/1->Z/X Y/X->A/S R/L->W/D C/B/A->A/Z/X Z/Y/X->W/S/D R/Mode/L->Q/E/C C-Up/Right/Down/Left->W/S/A/Q L/Z/R->E/D/C Analog Stick->I/J/K/M, but seriously for N64 gaming it's usually a combination of USB gamepad and keyboard, with the C buttons and D-Pad relegated to the keyboard. The systems I've seriously tried to play emulators for are SG-1000/SMS/GG/Genesis/Sega CD/32X (via Kega Fusion) Saturn (via GiriGiri) Game Boy/GBC/GBA (via VBA) NES (via FCEU) SNES (via Snes9x) N64 (via 1964 and Project64) DS (via no$gba) and old arcade machines via MAME. I'm not sure how I would handle 2 L and R buttons or the black and white buttons on the Xbox or anything like that, let alone the graphics...

Well I guess I'll just have to wait until I become an established and respected member of the community first. I appreciate Bisqwit's anti-abuse measure and wish more online polls did something similar so they wouldn't be overrun with Ron Paul fanatics. I wonder, has Bisqwit heard of Utu? It sounds like something that he would like. Also, I was about to search for Gruefood to discover its origin but apparently I can't access the search page.

1) What is the origin of the term "Gruefood"? 2) How do I gain the ability to vote on submissions?

Super Mario 1 took me years to get good enough to complete it. Super Mario Galaxy took me a few days. Super Mario World I did in a couple of hours.
I guess it might have something to do with your age; I was 5 when I started gaming and 6 when Super Mario World came out, and it took me about 6 months to complete, and I didn't finish Super Mario World until Super Mario All-Stars came out, and that took more than just a few saves for my 8-year-old self to finish. Meanwhile it took me a couple weeks to finish off Super Mario 64 (12 years old); unfortunately my 23-year-old self hasn't gotten around to Super Mario Galaxy because I'm still not ready to spend the cash on a Wii and the game.

Has anyone tried to make a TAS of this game yet? It looks relatively straightforward and honestly, if Pulseman got the community's attention, this underrated platformer from 1994 should too. Perhaps I should cut my own TASing chops on this game; first I'm thinking about going over to GameFAQs to write up the first FAQ for this game, but before I do that, does anyone here already know a great deal about this game, like whether jumping is better than walking (there is no running but there are items that speed you around) or the exact size of the characters' and obstacles' hitboxes? Here's some stuff I figured out already that was probably in the manual, though that's hard to find too: -There are 4 worlds, each with 3 sectors consisting of 2 rooms to find a star and then the exit in; at the end of the third sector there is a boss battle with a big version of one of the enemies from the world. -You have 3 meters: Lives (represented by a heart, dying with 0 lives results in Game Over), Health (represented by a battery, max is 5 and getting hit with 0 results in death), and Shot (how many of your pieces of metal shot can be onscreen at once, from 1 to 5, and you lose 1 when you get hit). -Most of the items (all of which are in nondescript orange capsules that must be broken and returned to in order to get the item) do nothing more than raise your score, except... *Hearts (1-up) *Batteries (add 1 point of health) *Lightning Bolts (full health) *Shot (add number indicated on the item) *Arrows, which transform you into a motor-unicycle, a rocketeer, a propellerhead, or a bouncing-ball rider (depending on the type of arrow) and give you effectively another health point or by another perspective a shield *Orange "?" balls, which take you to a bonus stage with the sole purpose of collecting some item that increases your score and then getting to the exit before time runs out (you get a score bonus for finding these "secret" stages by the way) -It is hard to control the player character on slopes because they are very slippery. -The only reason you would use something other than the bouncing shot is speed, because the bounce shot is much easier to use.
