hex-dec: numerical values for things like lives, health, and score
hex-text: text strings like a character's name
hex-binary: "bit flags" in "bit vectors" that encode certain conditions, like whether certain levels were passed or certain special pieces of equipment obtained; these also are used in most input files, like in FCM and FM2 where each frame of input for one controller is represented by one byte, with each button corresponding to whether one of the bits is 1 or 0
Most hex editors will show you the hex value of each byte in one section and with the ISO-8859-1 value in the next section, with some default character chosen if the particular byte corresponds to a non-printable character.
BTW I've heard good stuff about XVI32, a portable app that I think is included in the TASTools distribution.

Those instructions are for flash carts, which allow people to play homebrew games on physical DSes; normally you would just open up the .nds file in DeSmuME, but this particular one isn't self-contained, so you'll need to somehow add those graphics to the ROM itself (I don't know any tool to do this but do know that .nds files are little filesystem images, unlike ROMs for earlier systems).
Just FYI Nintendo has gone both ways before: The GBC included a beefed-up version of the Z80 derivative used in the original Game Boy, all GBA versions except Micro included that same chip along with the new ARM7 chip so they could play old GBC and GB games, and the DS and DS Lite included both a new ARM9 chip and the old ARM7 chip so they could play old GBA games (but they did not include the Z80 derivative necessary to play GBC and GB games).

If it merely takes forever, it can still be written as a computer program, like a method to compute an irrational number in decimal form to infinitely many decimal places.

I wonder why credit/debit cards still have the magnetic stripe even when it also has the chip. The chip adds security (afaik it's significantly harder to copy by simply trying to read it), but this security is completely nullified by the card having the magnetic stripe which serves the same function. What's the point?

albeit IMO not as severe as racism, sexism, or xeno-/homo-/trans-phobia, because it's easier to change your religion (or better, get rid of it) than your race, birth sex, homeland, sexual orientation, or gender identity
