I just got this gem the other day:
Now I was flattered by the compliment ("stylish stranger"), but immediately felt the sting of rejection upon noticing porsh69 didn't include the webpage.

Admittedly, it makes Langrisser look like checkers. The game's highest difficulty is very hard (and I've never played higher than normal). It'd be a passion project, for sure. 16 maps, I believe, altogether.

I dug around the house and found my old maps :D Here's an upload:
Slight correction as it was actually Level 9. Also, the game-end glitch occurred in the upper-left corner of the wall leading into the room with the 1,000 XP. I'll edit in the corrections to my prior post.

So I have a story to share about this game which happened to me about 5 years ago, playing this on the NES. I was in the process of doing a full playthrough, mapping out the entire game on pencil and graph paper. Real old-school stuff. Anyhow, as I was going through and mapping out Level 9, I made my way up to the top-middle part of the map and PASSWALL'd through into the room containing the tile giving you 1,000 XP (circled on the pic).
I have no idea how or why this next part happened, but immediately after I cast PASSWALL, the game went directly to the ending! At first I thought the game crashed due to the seizure-like graphics, but it was the legit ending scene with the 'Hall of Fame' screen and all that. I ended up resetting and continuing, and didn't have that happen again on the 8th floor. It did happen to me one other time later on in the game, though. No idea what causes this to happen. Just wanted to throw this out there to inform that there's something glitchy within the game's RNG which can cause a game-end glitch.

I don't think I've played this one since I was 13, but I do remember it being a fun, very challenging strategy game (which I never came close to beating). Anyhow, has anyone ever come across any strategy guides or playthroughs on the net? Gamefaqs has nothing; niconico came up short; and the only thing YouTube uncovered was this sweet playlist of the game's soundtrack:

Yes, because your subs get converted to .srt so you have to pretty much modify it so you can copy to what you have and due to you having it as split lines (due to the emulator) the subs also came out like stupid, so figuring out what you wrote was a blast.
I had no idea the subs did that in the conversion process... Similar to displaying the FPS and lag frame counter, I thought they would have turned out the same. Anyhow, Spikestuff, I do appreciate the work you put into converting them. The technical stuff you guys do to publish these movies is impressive (and to think, I used to be somewhat of a "computer whiz" all the way back in high school).

Yes.
Just Accept it, I'm bored over here especially at how long this is. (this and another TAS)
Yeah I agree, cwizkim might be too busy IRL at the moment to contribute (I've known the feeling). Also, if possible could the movie be published with the subtitles as I originally had them displayed? From an aesthetic standpoint, I believe they look good and go well with the background, without taking away from the gameplay.

I've been meaning to ask someone out of curiosity, but how do you get your re-record count up into the millions? Do you do something like program a bot to rapidly re-record, over and over, until you get a desired result?

I'm with Patashu in looking forward to the next one. Kinda disappointing to discover that a faster run was made elsewhere. But hey, that just gives you a goal to reach :)

Nice TAS! I haven't played this in almost a decade! I loved all of the luck manipulation, throughout (only repetitive parts were in the dungeons, collecting dragon balls). As for the 1st Vegita fight, how did you clone Goku?

If a team discovers a game-end glitch, that team would probably win by default (as it would be much faster than any other run). I probably would also award a honorary win at least for the team that clears the game in the fastest time without game-end glitching. Or maybe I'll do the reverse, to make sure the contest will remain competitive. I'm not entirely sure yet.
This thought just occurred to me, but in the event that an ACE or game-end glitch is discovered, this would create 2 categories of the game, correct? If that were to happen, both movies could be published to the site (and create some buzz).

Yeah, it's been about 2 weeks since cwizkim offered to expand on the subs. Anyone heard from him lately? Otherwise, is this holding up the publication?

I'll throw my name in the hat! Despite having little experience TASing platformers, I consider myself to be good at strategy, game routing, and focusing on the smaller details that can make a movie more entertaining. I'm fine with either a random team assignment, or if someone wants to extend an invite. This should be fun. One question though, Mothrayas. What if a team discovers something like ACE, or a game-end glitch?

How often does he use his physical attacks? Are they all single-target? Would you be able to construct a battle plan where you eventually kill off his two henchmen, while one member is assigned to revive as the other chips away Dalton's HP? Also, have you tested whether Dalton is vulnerable to status effects?

I admittedly haven't followed this run the whole way through (caught bits of the beginning, up until now), but is there no way to obtain a set of Fire Vest/Fire Armor to reduce/absorb those magic attacks? Or could you even bait Dalton into casting a different counter-spell?

Is it possible to disassemble this game to find the unlock criteria for the last bonus stage (or at least see if it exists)?
This may be useful, but I heard that Egbert has additional dialogue in S26 where he challenges you to meet him at Death Tower (upon meeting the conditions for unlocking S?4). If there's a way to locate the dialogue boxes in the game's memory, that would at least confirm that a legit way to access the stage was planned during development.

Nothing romantic to share. ars4326 was my college ID (first, middle, last initial + random numbers). Come to think of it: With all the TASes that I've had published, I'd probably be one of the most famous alumni on the Internet ;) edit: Actually, this guy is the most famous alumni I know of: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kane_%28wrestler%29

Oh, I've got a couple of thoughts: Going back to when I used to deliver pizzas (back in the day...), I would manipulate my vehicle to make it to customers' houses in the fastest/most entertaining way possible. Pursuing police cars would fail...badly. I would then RNG manipulate to generate the highest tips from customers. For physical health, I would frame optimize correct form during workouts to get the maximum results from repetitions. ...I'd then submit this real-life movie to the workbench. Easy moons tier.

Me and this game have something in common: We both came out (USA) in 1984 ;)

If somebody wants more system details and other stuff in the subtitles, I'd be more than willing to go through the sub file and add more commentary at some point in the nearish but not immediate future. (it's not nearly as much work as running the game, but let's leave the runner for that) I mean, obviously I don't know nearly as much about the game as the runner, but a lot of the things people may be wondering about are system and character details that about anyone who's played the series would know about. Guides and the submission text would fill in most of the gaps in anything I've forgotten. After all, this is a pretty much glitch-free playthrough that relies only on heavy luck manipulation and sweet tactical planning to speed through the game. If so, what are people not quite following? I'd imagine at least a basic explanation of classes, what the troops do, the system, and maybe character names would help. Anybody care about the plot details?
Thanks for the feedback, cwiskim. I wanted to wait a day or so for others to respond. If you're interested in adding more in-depth commentary (whenever you get the chance), that would be great to include!

This wasn't bad at all! Aside from the required mini-games, the stages were surprisingly quick.

Gens is especially bad at timing as it doesn't even bother emulating VDP access related stalls except DMA, and those are currently quite well understood. It's quite unfortunate most runs are made with Gens, it means most of runs will likely never be hardware verified (not that there was much choice when people started doing Genesis TASes, if only at least Fusion was open source..). There are of course exceptions like Sonic, which is very forgiving to wrong timing, but any game that has a RNG that's seeded from VDP's hvcounter (or is just using it directly) will never sync. And unfortunately it was well known by game developers that hvcounter is good source of entropy, so it's widely used.
This is a good point. All the previous TASes I did with Gens11b desynced within 1 minute of converting to Bizhawk. If you're a D&D fan, my Warriors of the Eternal Sun run was made with BizHawk :)
