I use the save avi functionality of mupen. I usually save a 640x480 x264 file at constant quant 10 (0 is lossless, 51 is shittiest quality). that yielded about a 1GB file for the 11 minutes of video in this case. It recorded as about 10 frames per second (that's 1/6th realtime). then I reencode that (megui is good) to a smaller resolution, and use lame.exe to turn the .wav into .mp3, and then I use mkvmerge to make the encoded video and sound into one .mkv. Not really the best way of doing it, but the files look good, and apart from the wait, and pushing a few buttons waiting, pushing more buttons, and then waiting more, it's not difficult once you've done it once. I'm sure there are threads detailing other ways, but for n64 recording on windows, the each option is as crappy as the next (mupen HAS to be on top for the entire time you record since it uses the screen data over the mupen rectangle), that's what makes n64 recording so much more annoying than other emulators. anyway, the vid is from the end of TTC to the end of CC. also part03v2 is still an outdated ttc play. I'll make a video of the entire run so far when sami finishes BGS. http://bkdj.net/index.php?dir=tas/bk/ filename: banjo_kazooie-wiptas-sami_part04.mkv

Dr. Mario also has the same method of "disposing" part of the piece by sending it out the top of the screen (except the bottle opening in the middle, of course).
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the intended behavior. Yes vote.

Yes! I like how the luck manipulation is almost transparent to the viewer now, too.

I loved it. I especially liked the little things like gill boosting towards the end, and kazooie jumping from one cubby hole to another without using the feathery flap. :)

A trick, or just a better route?

well, though the second route is faster, I was more entertained by the first. It's a difficult call, because the fastest run of this game would not be as entertaining as something meant to show off and stuff, but of course, how can that objectively be obsoleted. I say go with whatever route you want because at the end of the day, people will still enjoy watching it, but I doubt it would get published unless you tried to get the fastest possible time for the character as whom you're playing.

What Chamale means is that you end input early since getting inside a wall will make you walk automatically into the point where you finish the game. This is similar to that Castlevania run by Morrison where he damage boosts so he can end input early.
AKA stopped input early on a Sonic 1 run, and everyone bitched and moaned about that. Something about making the avi longer. I don't see how it could be done for the final bowser in this game anyway.

I think it's worth it as well, and this is MUCH easier on the eyes. yes vote.

If you don't change the music, does that change the rng to be more manipulation friendly? What about delaying a piece's landing? Either way, I enjoyed it so yes.

So, can no time be saved by hitting the transform-from-heli-back-to-yoshi block from the right side of the underside instead of the far left? it seems you go faster as heli than as yoshi. Anyway, this is a clear improvement of the test run by hhs. yes vote :)

I'm guessing for parts where you need to move against a conveyor belt, the pause upon landing makes it not worthwhile to use the extra speed from jumping? There was 1 or 2 places where you just waled on those belts after clearing enemies and it seemed slow. Other than that and what other people have said, good job, I was entertained.

"some other movie was published after being in the queue for a week, and it was worse than this, so accept it already" Not a direct quote but some people put out this vibe every once in a while. kind of along the lines of what Nach said.

lsdfhsklfhlkjhs I was typoing a storm is what I was doing. I meant the shortcut in the OTHER valley, peaceful rest, not saturn, sorry (I know the game pretty well and I watched the tas a few months ago, so I know the saturn valley one is useless). edit: so it was in the post all along. my bad.

the lilliput steps would save about half a minute of walking or so, but how many minutes would the saturn valley one save?

haha, wow, THIS is an interesting development. I would support using any glitch necessary for an any% now since it would be so short, and 100%. not sure about the other category cf mentioned though :)

if a new movie is made where we get to see the end of 1-1 more than like 10 times, I would probably vote no, and I would be really annoyed after 5 probably. if that glitch really is everywhere, I would probably consider it kinda in the same league as the zelda 3 exploration glitch, except instead of getting a short movie, it's still long so no one would want to watch it. :/ This is a fantastic game and deserves more than a repetitive and long glitch done over and over.

I remember playing this when I was younger, and I always took like an hour to win. I never saw nitsuja's but I enjoyed watching this, so yes vote.

I don't think the steepness maters since you'd probably use the fact that it's a low ceiling, but it's slippery so the point is moot.

there sure is a lot of angst in this thread. I voted yes because I laughed more than I did at the original altered beast run, and it's faster. Also,

it's kind of late now, but I don't remember this being brought up before: could the c-up glitch have been used at the beginning of pss?

Ok, I'm still not sure I understand why you bother collecting the 3rd star in JRB. the 100-coin star (second) should be enough to save the coin amount, and then you can exit course to the lobby center. I also am not sure why you got the 100-coin star in whomp's fortress, or the 100-coin star in CCM; they only slow you down. And the B1 8-red-coin star doesn't make much sense to me to collect either. After B1, there's PSS2, TotRC, and BoB and that's it for the lobby, right?
